Ok, now that we have all agreed on how mediocre (no let's go with shitty) our HC hire is, and how shitty his unexperienced D-II/FBS assistants are, let's turn to the QB position.

SDSU's record setting QB Gronowski has entered the portal for his last year. He may stay at SDSU, come to WSU, or enter the draft.

So what about Zevi? I assume that he will do the same. Enter the portal, and if Gronowski comes to WSU, which means he will be the guaranteed starter, Zevi goes.

This is at least somewhat of a bright light. We will have a decent to good QB next year either way. Aside from kind of rooting for Zevi, I have no real opinion here. Just hope that both QB's land somewhere and get a final year as starters. They both deserve it IMHO.

Oh, and below is a snippet from Brand X on the hire and assistants. Gibby, I look forward to your reaction to the historical comment from Jim Walden. :) Sorry the continuation of the article is behind the paywall.

"But assuming Rogers is at least bringing the coordinators and the positional coaches, let's take a look at the names Washington State fans should be getting to know. Fair warning: there's not a whole lot of Power 5 or Group of 5 representation on these resumes, but as Jim Walden used to say, "coaching football is coaching football no matter what level you're at."

If he comes to WSU my guess would be Zevi would transfer. Not a great position to be in when your new coach brings his QB with him sorta what we saw with Ward coming in and De Laura transferring.

I would hate that for Zevi considering how good of a teammate he has been and how well he played in the Holiday Bowl but that’s just the business nowadays.

Zevi would be a good option for Wake. Pizzella isn’t ready year 1.

Can either play DT or DB?

I youtubed South Dakota State and what I saw their QB is better than Mateer. Again it was highlights but he throws a really nice ball and is mobile enough.

You're the only one here saying that.
I think it's a major TBD hire. This isn't a hire that is going to excite a fan base, see a major uptick in season ticket requests, or drive donations, regardless how hard the usual pro-Coug "ambassadors" beat the drum of positivity.

If the decrease in the HC salary ($1MM+) equates to more $ for a quality assistant pool and recruiting and they make some smart hires (at least on paper), I will feel better about it.

I've already harped on my perception narrative the admin keeps lying about, so I'll skip that anecdote.

Gronowski listed as 6'3" and 230 lbs....Makes him bigger than pretty much all our backs...Looks like he throws a nice ball as well...Don't think he'll come here unless the pull of the coach and the NIL is strong...

I was being a little tongue in cheek in my post, but there are a couple of others asking questions about the hire. But yes I appear to be the only poster here that 100% thinks this was a poor hire. Hope I'm wrong
Loyal I am underwhelmed so you are not alone. I think the coaching search was about something more .. and like you I hope I am wrong.

The only hires that have excited me for football and basketball since 1970 were...

1. George Raveling (too young to buy season tickets
2. Dennis Erickson (I knew he'd win, but didn't think he'd skip town so soon)
3. Dick Bennett (bought season tickets very quickly even though I live 5 hours away)
4. Tony Bennett
5. Mike Leach

Even Mike Price was a ho-hum hire at the time.

Kelvin Sampson seemed like a lazy internal hire (man, was I wrong).

I can't think of another "exciting" hire when he was announced.

I was wondering. How excited is the WF fanbase about Dickert? Does anybody know?

Isn't this the point. You weren't excited by Price who took us to 2 Rose Bowls (I more than all the other Cougar coaches combined). You weren't excited by Sampson who actually was building an exciting team until he jumped to Oklahoma. It is very hard to know who will succeed especially when a young coach without a track record is hired. I think this was a good hire but I obviously don't really know either.

I was in school when Erickson (and Price and Sampson as well) was hired. I was excited and yeah, was surprised that he was hired away so soon. The Bennett's and Leach were exciting as well. Cannot think of anybody else either in any other sport at WSU, although I was cautiously optimistic about Smith and then Riley.

It is the one thing about WSU, other schools come to our school more than most to hire away coaches.

So many can't miss coaches (and players) miss, and coaches that are under the radar hit big. As I said yesterday whether you like the hire or not is whether you trust McCoy.
Yeah, and I wonder how much we paid the rocket scientist consultants to come up with his name? This was a name most of us would have listed if we were focused on making this decision for the future of WSU football.

PS I have to give her SOME credit for hiring Riley (note this Ed!). 😆 🤣 😂

She did a great job in hiring Riley. We were fortunate that he was just down the road. McCoy was the point person regarding all the hiring of women's sports. It has ultimately been the AD that makes the final decision, but women's sports have been successful at WSU, and she had a lot to do with choosing our coaches.

My only problem with the hire, is that WSU, Schultz, Anne, AD, Search Firm, etc, chose Jim Roger's over, instead of Vigen, and When Vigen interviewed for the WSU HC job, WSU, Schultz, AD, search firm, stupidly turned down, rejected him, and hire Roger's , a good HC instead of hiring a even better HC in Vigen.

That's according to Brand X, The Couch GM.

That said, what's done is done, and at least Roger's is a good HC hire, and at least WSU, Schultz, AD didn't totally blow the hire.

That said, if Roger's doesn't work out, Anne the AD should be fired for not hiring, turning down, rejecting Vigen.

That said I think Roger's will work out well for WSU.

As lucidly as you are able, please explain why Vigen is better than Rogers.

The thing is we weren't in the interview. Vigen could have laid an egg, or Rogers may have had a great plan and blew away the interview. There is a reason why they chose Rogers and we will unlikely never know the exact reason.

Well if Roger's works out well for WSU like I think he will, then Anne should notvbe fired.

But if Roger's doesn't work out for WSU, then Anne should be fired if that happens, because she didn't get, turned down, rejected Vigen a better HC, hire then Roger's that is a semi good, semi great HC, hire.

My buddy said in an email that Vigen has recently interviewed for three (3!) head coaching jobs and not gotten any. Reasons? Blowing the interview? Salary demands? Length of contract demands or refusing buyout penalties? Poor plan for the future at WSU? We may know sometime, or never know, and even if he does succeed elsewhere that is not a guarantee that he would have had the same success at good ol' Wazzu.

Let's just hope and pray that the correct decision was made for WSU and Rogers does better than anyone expects.

BTW, I don't recall there being unanimous standing ovations and cheering when Mike Leach was hired, but he did okay.

Good stuff. I did see that Brand X "confirmed" that Vigen flew to SD to interview. OK, I guess I believe them. Barely.

But as you comment above, maybe he was offered and said no. It's not an automatic yes for a coach. They do say no. Vigen may think he's worth $3M. Maybe WSU wanted to cheap out on assistant salaries.

Maybe, Vigen said he'd take the job after the FCS championship game but wanted to keep it under wraps. And we said no.

Nobody knows. It doesn't matter.

Brand X, and The Couch GM TM(associate of Pucket, Furness, Wilner, Canzano, Brand X, that sometimes is a guest of Pucket, Furness, Canzano, that sometimes has Pucket, Canzano, as a gues on his podcast, you tube videos, that sometimes is a guest of Brand X, and sometimes has Brand X as a guest and that does co articles with Canzano, Pucket, Brand X), says that Vigen wanted the WSU Job, and interviewed for WSU HC job, and that WSU was seriously looking at Vigen, at least until interview, and that Vigen did NOT turn down, say no to WSU, and that it was WSU, that turned down, rejected Vigen, and chose Rogers instead.

Vigen might have very well blown the interview, etc, as some might have suggested. An or Rogers could have had a awesome interview.

But the fact remains that the reason why Vigen is better then Rogers, is because Vigen has more experience, more years as HC, and had better results then Rogers, and a better coaching staff, and better players then Rogers, and is a better recruiter then Rogers, which makes him a better coach then Rogers, which makes him the better hire, even if he were to not have as good as a interview as Rogers.

That said, I think Rogers is a semi good, semi great HC that will do well at WSU.

Ok Mik. I go to bed promising not to pick on you and here I am at 9:45 reading 20 posts by you saying exactly the same thing. Since 10:00 last night.

First of all, I read all the recent Brand X articles I could get to (any paying subscribers please post anything beyond the below snippet about Vigen?). The below is what Brand X reported. I listened to this "Couch" podcast. WhoTF are these guys? One is a Brand X contributor I guess. Looks like they were both cut from the 8th grade football team. Anyway, they mentioned the Brand X reporting below, and one of them took that to mean Vigen was passed over for Rogers. That is it. So no, neither of your sources (your source appears to be the one sentence below as Couch directly quoted it is their sources) said anything anywhere near what you posted above. Or in your other 19 posts in the last 12 hours.

  • CF.C did confirm that MSU head coach Brent Vigen flew to San Diego to interview but ultimately WSU decided on Rogers.

I saw the You Tube Video, and Podcast, where The Couch GM, TM reported, said that Brand X(Cougfan said), that, those things about the what I said, repeated, parroting, what heard, seen in my comment, post, that you quoted, was, is true, etc.

Not everything has to be, is through official sources through, by TV, newspapers, Brand X articles on their official website, etc.

They could have said it on Twitter, Facebook, social media, Instagram, on the internet someplace, in a interview that was overheard, in a interview between The Couch GM TM and Brand X, when The Couch GM TM was a guest, interviewed by Brand X, when Brand X was a guest, interviewed by The Couch GM TM, on podcast, etc.

And the experts, pundits, rumors are saying that too.

In any case STOP BEING A NITPICKER, DUMBASS, ETC.

I AM NOT MAKING THIS STUFF UP, I DID IN FACT SEE, HEAR, ETC THIS STUFF.

NOW GO FCK OFF.

Brand X and The Couch GM TM (associated with Pucket, Furness, Wilner, and Canzano) state that Vigen wanted the University (WSU) Head Coach (HC) job and interviewed for it. WSU was seriously considering Vigen until the interview and did not turn him down; rather, WSU rejected Vigen and chose Rogers instead.

Some suggest that Vigen might have performed poorly in the interview, or that Rogers had an outstanding interview.

The fact remains that Vigen has more experience as a HC, better results, a superior coaching staff, and better recruitment skills than Rogers. This makes Vigen a better coach and a superior hire, even if his interview was not as good as Rogers'.

Nevertheless, I believe Rogers is a competent HC who will do well at WSU. However, if Rogers does not succeed at WSU, then Anne, the Athletic Director (AD), should be held accountable for rejecting Vigen and hiring Rogers instead.

That said, I still think Rogers is a competent coach who will work out well at WSU.

😀

You do realize that social media aren't considered reputable sources, right? Brand X has been wrong more than they've been right, which goes for pretty much the rest of your sources as well.

Case in point: weren't you parroting your buddies who all said that it was a certainty that Vigen was being hired? And now...

Its ok to be wrong, just move on.

Hey Mik-by chance were you moonlighting as a speechwriter for Kamalalala Harris over the past year? Asking for a friend! :)
