.. until the start of the basketball season. I believe that this years recruiting class will turn out to be a good one. I believe that the starting lineup will eventually be : 6'7 Franks 6'9,Pollard 6'7, Elleby 6'6.Cannon and Ali 5'10 or Robinson 6'2 at the PG position.I see Daniels, Chidom and possibly Kunc as the key reserves. The 6'11 Cooper may turn out to be a key reserve if he can provide basket defense. Kunc may turn out to be the real find. I hear that he played against poor competition. However, his tapes at the prep school showed great against much better competition. Kunc and Elleby s skills are evident and only a lack of experience may hold them and Cannon back in the early going.A rotation of 8-9 players will probably be set by the conference season.

No concern about the level of comp for Kunc. Kid is a 6-8 shooter who just needs to get stronger. Strength may be the only reason he should red shirt

Imo 5) Pollard 4) Franks 3) Skaggs or Elleby (eventually Elleby) 2) Daniels 1) tbd both new guys will be given chance to shine.

Key reserves Cannon, Chidom and Eventually Skaggs and which ever point guard doesn’t start. ( could see Ali playing some two guard)

Possible redshirt for Kunc

That's exactly how I see it. A poster on brandx is hearing Kunc is looking good though so most likely doubtful he takes a redshirt.

Kunc has gained over 10 pds since he reported in Pullman. I just read the post,he thinks Kunc may start ? If so he must be looking very good.

I’m sceptical about practice reports due to the fact I’ve called twice and been told practices are 100 percent closed this year. Always been allowed into practice with coaching card in the past. If Reports are correct and Kunc can contribute as a starter or even a top reserve that would be huge imo because that 3 spot is the weakest in our lineup right now. Big contribution from him would be awesome even if it is at the 4 spot and move Franks over to the 3

Well i hope they start letting you guys in. I would appreciate a report from a knowledgeable person. I wonder why all the practices are closed at this time?

The 3 spot could become a strength over the next year. Elleby, Kunc, Skaggs (for 2 more years), and Cannon. Hopefully Skaggs can move to a rotation role or maybe someone moves over to the 2. Chidom could even play the 3 with his shooting ability.

I agree if Kunc can contribute and Elleby can become a major contributor/ starter by mid season allowing Skaggs to provide instant offense off the bench the 3 spot should be solid. We however already know Skaggs has limitations and it is a lot to ask of freshmen to compete night in and night out in the PAC 12. One of the good things about Kunc is he is an old freshmen, he will be 19 and half by PAC 12 play about a year older/more mature than a normal freshmen.

It seems like there are many questions regarding this years' team. Perhaps the combination of returnees, jucos and the two frosh will result in a good team? All of the polls predict a 12 th place finish in the PAC 12..Perhaps they will be a surprise team? Kent thinks that this may be his best team since he became head coach of the cougs?

He however is the “ King of Hype” he thinks that every year it seems. Last year he talked about two redshirts from the year before who were consistently the best players in practice during their redshirt year. Then neither had much of an impact at all.

Yes but he knows that the rumblings about his job security are becoming internal as well as some fans ire. I think his words about this being his best team were " it needs to be". Make what you will of that statement.

This year s version is not a 4th place team in the Pac 12. I think that they will be competitive and play around .500 ball in conference. If they do that a NIT bid may be possibe.that would be nice improvement and exceed the "expert s " expectations

That would exceed my expectations for this year but would still be way below my expectations of where WSU would be when we hired Kent

I thought we would be better than we have been under Kent, but there is not a coach anywhere who can stay at 500 in conference over any length of time in Pullman.

I think we have definitely up graded in talent, especially with size in Elleby, Kunc, and Cannon. What concerns me is that I believe we really under achieved last year. In November we were crisp passing with good off the ball movement. Thats the reason we shot the ball so well. For the rest of the season we were stagnant in the half court which really contributed to the turnovers. Too much talent out there too look as bad as we did during much of the season

Offense would bog down. Some called Flynn's play "hero ball" but when everyone turned into shrinking violets someone has to step up. Franks had games like Cal but too often would simply disappear for stretches. Daniels would pop up in stretches but he needs others being a threat. That's why Skaggs had to play so many minutes.

I am hopeful in time Elleby, Kunc, and Cannon can create and manufacture their own offense plus are better defensively. I think Chidom can as well if given the opportunity. I also think Ali provides us a lot of what we lost with Flynn. Again though, all that is going to take time.

I'm surprised we haven't seen the schedule yet. Season is just around the corner.

The team did not play as a team all the time. Flynn is not a leader and others tried but could not pull it off. The team needs a leader who will help others stay involved and put forth effort 100 percent of the time. Daniels tries hard but is small and has poor ball handling skills. Also he really cannot create his own shot. That is not a great set of skills for a small guard. One of the recruits has to step up defensively ans be able to contribute offensively. I hope that one of the PG s emerges as the team leader. The coaches obviously need to do a better job than they did last year.

I don’t see this year as being much different than last year. We might have better talent but we might have worse talent, way to many question marks for me to get excited before watching a few games. The real question isn’t if we have talented players. We always have talented players that doesn’t mean we have more talent than the rest of the league. We were 11 out of 12 teams last year and we have the worst ranked recruiting class. Recruits and teams can always be underrated and surprise the experts but that’s not the norm! We have to hope for a surprise the experts type of season which is basically where we are at this time every year. One of the best things about cougar sports is those catching lightning in a bottle years

Agree with Ferris on Franks. Not only did he disappear. But too many times he became a black hole, dribbling and looking for some kind of iso move

A true PG will make other players look better. He can deliver the ball to players in their favorite spots and set up plays where the players are in a position to make a move. I have not seen that from the past coug PG s .Many of the players last year had trouble creating their own shot. I see where SDSU is actively recruiting a 4 star Pg and he is expected to commit . If he commits Flynn may be relegated to a bench role. I am sure that is not what he visualized when he transferred, Let s hope one of the newly recruited PG s can provide the leadership the team needs to become a competitive team every time out

I liked what Flynn brought to the table and think we will miss it. When he was wired in he's a really good competitor, can score in bunches, and has the "clutch gene". He made more big shots than he missed. If he wanted to stick at the point he probably should have gone further down a bit. With SDSU (or even us) he probably ends up moved off the ball just like Low or a lot of those GU guards from a decade ago.

Regardless, he's in the rear-view mirror for us. I look forward to what Ali can do to fill Flynn's gap and in time hopefully Elleby, Kunc, and even Cannon more than fill the gap.

I too liked the gamer in Flynn. Regardless, with Flynn, Franks, and some decent supporting scorers in Skaggs and Daniels, I think we under achieved. Maybe bad chemistry, I dont know.

it takes teamwork and leadership for a team to succeed. it seems like different players wanted to be the team leader but seemingly no one was the acknowledged leader of the team.
