Plus, while all of us grew up knowing who the blue blood programs are since we were very young, they don't. They don't grow up seeing those programs in the tournament every year and wanting to attend those programs. Gonzaga was able to recruit several great players from out of the country before they became a blue blood program themselves.Just a guess but Diongue being originally from the same city as Mouhamed Gueye (Dakar, Senegal) probably got us in the door. I have no idea whether Diongue and Gueye actually know each other but with foreign players trust is typically a big piece in recruiting. Maybe there's an international connection (handler) that was involved in placing them at high schools in the US and has continued involvement in their college recruiting?
Yeah, good point. Lloyd's a great example at GU. Tony Parker was rumored to be going to GU before he decided to go directly to the NBA 20 years ago. What Randy Bennett has done over the years going into Australia. Daugherty all over Europe and a bit in Australia on the women's side while at WSU.Plus, while all of us grew up knowing who the blue blood programs are since we were very young, they don't. I honestly think it is a sign that smith is a good recruiter. Step 1 is always getting in the door!!So, I don't mean to suggest that Smith and Co can't recruit, because I have no real knowledge or opinion on it other than the fact that we've pulled some decent kids the past few years, but...
Why would he even come to Pullman considering the other schools on that list? Or UNLV? Just odd to see us mixed in with KU and UK.
We have been all over this guy for years. He played for the Oakland Soldiers. I’m not sure it increases or odds of getting him. I always concluded the added boost came from having others on the roster from that geographical location. If their is any displeasure behind Efi leaving it could hurt us. One thing is for sure though. We need him bad!!Well with Efe gone, WSU, probably went from being in Diongue's top 3,4,5 to now probably being in Diongue's top 1,2, because Smith can now tell Diongue that he will probably be a Co starter, #1 back up at the 4,5 spots(A STARTER if Jackson also leaves.)
And that combined with what 71 said that not only was Smith, WSU probably the FIRST on him, but all over him for years, combined with how Diongue is visiting WSU on Wednesday, all that combined, probably makes WSU a semi somewhat semi favorite to get Diongue.
And that's great. With Efe gone, WSU really needs, Diongue.
Hope WSU gets him, but if not oh well, bummer, hope Smith has a AWESOME PLAN B to him.
I'm pretty sure the story is the transfer portal is here, there is a new world order in college athletics, players are taking advantage, and WSU is not alone in the degree of disruption this has created.I’m not sure it increases or odds of getting him. I hate to say it but when multiple players transfer out in the same year that were playing there’s usually a story behind it. Let’s hope not..
100% correct. I wrote the very same thing in another thread before reading your post, Bogusto.I'm pretty sure the story is the transfer portal is here, there is a new world order in college athletics, players are taking advantage, and WSU is not alone in the degree of disruption this has created.
This paying players thing is working out just as i thought it would, college sports is being ruined. Whats next, players dont have to be students or grades dont matter?100% correct. I wrote the very same thing in another thread before reading your post, Bogusto.
If college athletics is going to become more like pro sports, then maybe schools someday will be able to "trade" their players. Maybe we can send Efe to UO for two freshmen non-starters and a recruit to be named later.
I'm getting less interested in the college game. Apparently I'm too old to adapt.
Glad Cougar
