Uninspired play and negative results once more. 44 points given up by halftime. Very little positives to be taken by yet another non-con loss. 3-3 for the season.
P.S.--San Jose was 1-3 on the year prior to coming to Pullman.

SJS picked last in MWC. Flynn still looks good. Improved play from Callison and Daniels I guess.

Lots of flaws. Tough sledding ahead.

Just got home from the game and dinner. It's gonna be a long long long year!!! I think we'll be lucky to get 2 more OOC wins and I don't see who we beat in conference. As Save said, not pessimistic just realistic. I hope they get better, but ....

Again, wish I could argue but I see us going down the same road as last year. I watched the opener against MSU and saw 40 minutes of high energy defense. Other than Flynn tonight might have been the worst performance in every aspect of the game thst I have seen in a long time.

1-35 in the Pac-12 over two seasons?

I don't know who we can beat at this point. It seems to be getting to Hawkinson a bit. He just wasn't sharp tonight even though he still filled up the box score.

I was also one of the 300 or so that were at the game tonight. Just a disappointing performance. Rebounding was a big problem - don't know why Pollard didn't play more. Seemed like King might have been punished for something, as he sat the bench early. While I like Ike and Callison, they have a lot of trouble finishing at the hoop, and I question what they are currently bringing to the table. Josh H. seems to not know his role right now, as I expect him to contribute more.
This team is not going to win many of any more games this year. They don't seem to be able to play a zone defense - they don't create turnovers for easy buckets. Just very frustrated.

Go Cougs!!!

When they were down 10+ late in the second half SJS was able to easily take down the shot clock and get a shot. We needed to foul 5 times or whatever to get to the bonus and did it in under 10 seconds. Then with 6 fouls we allowed them to bring the ball up court only to have a player off the ball run up to foul him running off over 10 seconds.

This is going to resemble football playing SC when Carroll tried to run out the half with dive plays and we couldn't stop it.

I think it is definitely affecting Hawks play. Also I know some people disagree but I think Franks and Daniels have a lot of upside but are not being coached up. As I said on onother thread, such a waste of a really nice looking young pg.

IMO Franks can shoot and that's basically it, and right now he's not even doing that very well. Of course there is always a place/role for a good shooter. I'm warming up to Daniels, he seems to play and shoot better when things happen fast and he just reacts on instinct. Whenever he has time to think he misses. To me that's a confidence issue and should/could go away with playing time.

Looking at the stats Franks is shooting better than I thought and King is shooting much worse.

Franks maybe but he's all 'stretch' not much 4. Daniels in the CWU game started to look like there was something then reverted back to form. Last night he was ok again before getting injured. I would rather see Daniels than Ike at this point. Ike's seems like a great kid but just tired of the same wild circus move that results in the other team getting a fast break.

Daniels Franks and King can all shoot the ball better than Callison and Ike. They need to be coached up but its not like our defense could get much worse with them on the floor. In addition King is probably our second best rebounder

I think King can be a scorer against lower level teams but against PAC 12 caliber teams he is basically a shooter. They always talk about players having high basketball IQs but rarely do you here people talk about the other end of the spectrum...low basketball IQ... King has a very low understanding of the game possibly the lowest I've seen on a D-1 player. If he learns the game he has enough skill and athleticism to be serviceable but he is a junior. He is shooting in the teens from three point land. Take out the Montana State game and he is 0-11 from three and averaging 3.5 per game.

King's shooting has fallen off the map. He wasn't this bad last season.

Haven't discussed the other JC guard they brought in this year. Langston doesn't appear to be a D-1 talent and I'm not sure time is going to change that too much.

Moos was one of the 50 or so people in attendance last night. He didn't look like he was enjoying himself too much.

I dont disagree on his basketball IQ, but unlike Flynn whose dad is a coach King drifted around in high school and got virtually no JC experience. No way to tell whether he is coachable or not based on the lack of development of some other players

Flynn's the only non-senior I see as Pac 12 level player on the floor right now. I think Acquaah gives us another but we won't know until next year. That's 2 players in 12-14 Kent has recruited. Not good enough. Franks, Pollard, and Daniels look like rotation level players. Nothing wrong with that if you have 5 or 6 legit Pac 12 starters but we don't at the moment and it doesn't appear they are waiting in the wings. Ergas and Chidom redshirting. Are they added to the Flynn or Franks group?

I would think if the red shirts were PAC 12 caliber they wouldn't be red shirting, but at this point pulling a red shirt might be needed if they can offer any help. I can't see any reason Langston was recruited.

I think a coach who can develop players could win in Pullman with a couple of guys like flynn Pollard Acquaah Franks and Danieils in each class.

Another thing, I don't mind us playing a zone defense, but I want us to be more aggressive in the zone - traps, deny a pass etc... Our players seem like they are a little unsure up the concepts of a zone defense. I have been at the MSU game and SJSU game, and both teams had a player "go off" in making threes. We need to do a better job of recognizing who the shooters are and defending them. Also, we have too many players that think that they are covering a player just putting a hand up at the opponents chest. I guess what I am saying is "play defense."

Go Cougs!!!

Despite Hall going off in that opener I thought it was the best defensive effort I have seen inn Pullman for awhile. Not sure where thst enegy evaporated to

Maybe I am being to picky. Just seems like when someone gets hot, we should recognize that and be able to shut him down - deny him the ball, always know where he is on offense etc...

Go Cougs!!!

Hall was making them from everywhere. Not like he got a lot of good looks. He pulled up off the dribble from NBA range on a couple. He was still only 7-15 which is good but not like he was unconcious. Holding the team to 65 despite his 32 suggests good D. Again my main point was how high our energy was on D for that game. Anything close to that effort every game and we would be 5-1 right now.
