Construct your ideal WSU offense or defense from all the players we’ve had:

QB- Bledsoe
RB- Jerome Harrison/Mayes
Y: Micheal Bumpus/Cracraft
X: Devard Darling/Marquess Wilson
Z: Gabe Marks/Sammy Moore
TE: Bienemann/Collins
OTs: Lucas, Lightbody
Guards: Tobeck, Dahl
Center: Mauigoa

I suppose scheme is a big factor here, so I’m leaning pro-ish style with mine.

Um, where is Mike Utley? Other than that, your list is pretty good. Assuming we aren't going back too many decades. Then it gets wide open. Need to put an "era" limit on this if we are going to have fun.

Being 33 I don’t have the range to know some of the greats. That’s why I think it’ll be interesting to see who pops up. Lots of players from the 2000s I left out who I argued with myself on.

Tobek was a center.

Danny Lynch was Kodak/Bob Hope first team all american at guard. Somebody was opening up the massive holes for Reuben to scamper for 357 against Oregon.

Mike Utley would pancake Dahl and then laugh in his face. He was that good. (and obviously, you dont' pancake other offensive players)

Pat Beach is better than either of those Tight Ends, too.

There were more than a few ballers before 1992.

I figured so, but I was shitting my pants at the time. My history with WSU starts with the 2000 season and the infamous loss to Idaho. My first game ever.

Not sure who that is at x on your 2 deep after Devard. Seems to me only Cougs should make the list.

I am having trouble getting my list started, can't decide between Shawn Deeds and Chad Davis. No, wait-gonna go with the guy that teamed up with Karstedter to win the Apple Cup.

I’m going to somewhat arbitrarily cut this off at 1980.

QB - Minshew, backed up by Leaf. Leaf had better physical skills, but Minshew had the brains and was arguably the best leader our team has ever had.
RB - I’m OK with your picks. For 3rd string I’m thinking Broussard or Black.
WR - Give me Stallworth in place of Willson. I also want a receiver who’s a deep threat, so while it pains me a bit I’m going to drop Sammy for Jason Hill. Also want to find room for Brandon Gibson.
TE - Beach/Bienemann. But I want to keep Collins at FB/H-back
OT: Utley/Dillard
G: Lynch/Withrow (I think he played G for a while, ended up at C)
C: Tobeck

Possible replacments: T Sam Lightbody (talk about the biggest oxymoron ever), WR Chris Jackson, CJ Davis, Philip Bobo.... I think Mike Bush deserves an Honorable Mention. Love the RB choices... Jermaine Green/Chris Ivory were also studs for a hot minute. Jerome Harrison is by far my favorite of the group and should have been a Heisman finalist at the very least. TE Cody Boyd did just about everything you asked of him. Greatest kick blocker in college football history.

95...not even close when it comes to the QB position. Leaf and no one is a close second. Leadership...he did something no other qb did for 60 plus years...Took a team to the Rose Bowl. Go back and look at the Stanford game. WSU was up 27-14, next thing you know Stanford takes a punt return to the house and we are down 28-27.

You could see Leaf come out to the huddle, look at 10 other guys in the eyes and said we are going to score and we are not losing this game. Four plays later they are in the end zone.

Leaf went into Husky Stadium and won.

And I might even put Gesser number 2 instead of Minshew.

Leaf had the most dominating season I've ever witnessed of any athlete at WSU with the possible exception of Henry Rono and John Olerud.

He's numero uno on 1997 alone.

Minshew over Gesser though. What he did in terms of rallying the Cougs after Tyler's suicide is one of the greatest displays of leadership ever. He made sport fun again for all of us.

Utley played guard when Dennis was here.

It seems like we have a lot of one year wonders. Tobeck played DT his junior year. There are a few above him. I would say you could put Riley Sorenson, Kenny Alfred as well.

No question Minshew coming in after Tyler left us. Very difficult circumstances for sure. But Gesser took us to back to back bowls, something that has never happened. And he helped a team recover from 98 ad 99, and three multi overtime losses in 2000.

But whether it is Gesser or Minshew, l Leaf is number one. And I will say this...if Rosie was around with today's offense, he would have crushed it. With the read option, he would still be running. Not sure any appreciates how great of an athlete he was.

Gotta agree on Leaf. He single handedly took us through the '97 season. I was never really a big Gesser fan. The surrounding cast made him look better than he was. IMHO.

Dan Lynch was quietly unbelievable. Beachnut as well.

I must admit I do miss that offense. And not because of it was high scoring, cause it did slow down in the red zone. But because with the option everything is in front of you when it is on TV. You see guards pulling, cut blocking, the play of the WR etc

Chug...I have to ask...why Bledsoe ? Is this strictly a pick for the 92 Apple Cup?
