Great point on the Angels. If somehow the asking price was a lot less than expected for Soto go ahead and get in there, but that’s usually never the case w this league. I like riding with what you got and picking up a decent long reliever/6th starter if the price is right to hedge against burnout for a young guy like kirby or an injury in your staff that is almost impossible to avoid over 162.Feel the same way. The M’s have the prospects to make it happen, but you still have to sign him Would be a great get but, you’re going to have to pay Julio some day too. You could make the argument that the Angels have 2 of the top players in the league in Ohtani and Trout. How is that working out without much of a supporting cast.
Sure, if money wasn’t an option, lock both Soto and Julio up for around 1 billion.

Yeah weird to say bats shouldn’t be a problem with the stretches we’ve seen over the last couple of years where scoring was an issue but with what they are doing now I don’t see bats being an issue going forward. Haggerty is now a key utility guy w great speed as a pinch runner when needed and he’s been hitting! You know Hanniger will be solid when he’s back and Lewis has been raking in AAA. Even Frazier is getting hot. Toro is the one guy who’s easy to move, but that next move will be a tough one.Agree. Two solid bats are on the horizon in Hanniger and Lewis. I do think they will need to add something more than a back end starter though. A top end guy should be the priority, with like you said, our young pitchers about to hit innings pitched they haven’t seen before.
Toro has options I believe, so I expect he will be moved. The way Lewis is hitting not sure how you keep him in AAA much longer though. He has been murdering the ball lately. It’s nice they can afford to be cautious with Hanniger to make sure he is fully healthy. What a great addition you your roster the last 50 games or so. Things sure are lining up nicely down the stretch. Relatively easy schedule too. If they can gain a couple of games in the two series with the Astro’s they have a legit chance of chasing them down.Man I want to see Toro do well. A switch hitting utility guy with some pop. Does he have any options left?
Right now, Dylan Moore is filling the utility role admirably and you really can’t carry two of these guys. With the current roster I don’t see how Lewis gets AB’s if he doesn’t play in the field.
I think they could find a way to keep J-Rod, he seems to really enjoy Seattle. And yeah, that’s going to cost them north of $400 mill probably. I have a hard time seeing a scenario where they get Soto too. Unless they plan to let him walk as a FA and make a 3 year run at the World Series and gut their farm system to trade for him. He and JRod wouldn’t both be here long term and you’re back to rebuilding the farm system that they took a long time to get where it is. If they had a 20% chance at a WS over the next 3 yrs with no move for Soto and maintaining a top farm system that should keep them competitive in the AL West for the foreseeable future vs a 30% chance at a WS with Soto (he’s only one player) and a gutted farm system that would likely render them a so-so team after Soto leaves in 2 1/2 years…I’d take the former. An or the Mariners have a history of giving semi big contracts to players like Beltre, players who are supposedly absolute studs, or at least were doing so awesomely, such as hitting 40+ homers, 333 batting average, all star, 100+ RBI's, etc, all combined, and then Mariners give semi big to big contract, only to have player SUCK for the Mariners.
About the only players that didn't suck for the Mariners that had big contracts were Arod, Griffey Jr, Ichiro, Randy Johnson, etc, about anyone else that had a big contract with M's, SUCKED for the M's, after having such good years elsewhere, an or went onto monster good years elsewhere after leaving the Mariners.
I hear you. I’m a bandwagon sucker though this season is getting too fun. It’s got a different vibe than past seasons when they were in it in Sept. Those few teams they had seemed to have to rely on perfect bullpens, they couldn’t score more than 3 runs, and they were 12 games over 500 with a -60 run differential, so you knew it wasn’t real. This is different.Ownership sucks. I quit caring about that team long ago due to that. Haven't missed them. Root Sports sucks too, and you can thank the Mariners for that (hint: the Mariners own 60% of Root).

The ending to last season definitely seemed to be a prelude into this season (although the losing streak in May/June didn't seem like it). Make a few necessary roster moves/acquisitions, incite a well timed fisticuffs with the Angels and BAM! I am still scratching my head on Julio batting 1st in the lineup. I truly believe that should be JP's position.I hear you. I’m a bandwagon sucker though this season is getting too fun. It’s got a different vibe than past seasons when they were in it in Sept. Agreed, although it’s working. Think the idea is having some bats behind him that discourages pitching around him so he gets to see some good pitches. You walk him with his speed he may end up on 2nd with France at the plate. I’d love to see Haggerty continue to hit and move into leadoff. Julio is probably a #3 in most lineups. The ending to last season definitely seemed to be a prelude into this season (although the losing streak in May/June didn't seem like it). I mean, exciting either way. Next 6+ years will be a competitive playoff caliber team if they stick to their guns and next 2 1/2 could legit take down the ‘stros and play for it all if they mortgage the future for Soto. Good problem to have.I heard they are activating Lewis Friday.
F it. I changed my mind. Go get Soto for 2-1/2 years and give up the prospects.
