Anthony Gordon signed with the Seahawks as an UFA

Is there no back up in Seattle? ESPN doesn’t list anyone behind Russell.

No and they only carry 2 QB’s. They’ll probably bring some journeyman QB but he’ll get a shot at making that squad.

Geno Smith was the backup QB last season. But, he is currently a free agent. So, the Seahawk do not have a backup right now.

Unless they bring in a more sure thing veteran backup, he has a real chance.

At the very least, if he shows anything, he will be on the practice squad. Most teams only carry two QB's on the roster due to the limited roster spots. So, a lot of them carry the third QB on the practice squad.

Not sure there was a better place for him to go...

I don’t like the fit here at all. Carroll has always preferred a Russell Wilson lite option as the backup, and Gordon is the polar opposite of that.

Carroll likes pocket passers, he just got lucky that he has a mobile qb who can also stand in the pocket and deal when the OL allows it. We're not running a lamar jackson offense, its pound the ball and then stretch the field. Question is, can AG stand tall and deliver dimes at NFL speed?

First thing that needs to be fixed with Gordon is his feet and stepping up into the pocket. The guy has a crazy fast release and can throw darts from any arm angle but as soon as he feels uncomfortable he wants to run out of the pocket to his right. I think that’s fixable with the right coaching...If he figures that out he could be lethal.

That and he doesn’t use the whole field. If he doesn’t learn to use the left side, and cut down his reliance on his favorite 1-2 receivers, he has zero chance of staying in the NFL.

Bingo. But I will say like with Connor, those players will be helped by a more conventional running game. Could you see a scenario where Gordon only has to make 5 or six critical throws instead of 38?

I will say this, it will be fun watching him if they let him "go loose" in pre-season action.

Another thing to consider. When you know you need to score damn near every drive to win, the risky throws that turn into picks need to be viewed in that light. Gordon’s got his issues but in an offense where the coach can call a run from the sideline and he doesn’t need to score every drive, he might be really good. Not sure there’s a guy in the NFL who has a quicker release.

And that he is like a shortstop and has all different kinds of arm angles. A lightening quick release I would have thought was going to get him drafted. The issue that you had mentioned plus clearly something else the scouts did not like got Luton picked ahead of Gordon.
