My wife is looking for a new car and we just test drove the 2025 Model Y.
Say what you want, but the Supervised FSD is a game changer We drove ourselves on about a 5 mile city test drive in Bellevue. Turned on the FSD and it drove us back by itself, didn’t intervene once. It even parked itself.

Very comfortable, even for a big guy, 6-4 #230. Had plenty of room.

Any thoughts?

An Uber driver told me that he leased his because he thought there would be a technology breakthrough soon that would improve range and recharging time. No idea if that’s true or not but that’s what the man said.

I don't have one but a friend of mine bought a Model 3 Performance and he loves it. He's owned a couple Porsche SUV's and a couple other sports cars and he said that even if it's not perfect, the Tesla is an amazing value proposition and exactly what he wanted.

My daughter will say not to buy a Tesla because of the company owner but the truth is that one rebel....or even 10,000 rebels....isn't going to change a thing.

I've got a Model 3 performance. It's fantastic. Unbelievably fast off the line. If you frequently drive more than 250 miles/day, stopping to charge will get old, but if you're a commuter, you'll be hard pressed to find a better car under $70K. They depreciate quickly though. Research it thoroughly and make sure you intend on keeping it for many years. The used market is worth a look.

Yeah, most of the updates are done via computer download. The next big break through will be unsupervised FSD. Could roll out in Texas and California later this year

My brother owns a 2023 Y, and he's a huge Tesla guy.

I've driven it several times. Super fast. Like 0-10 in whatever.

I think the "Dog Mode" is cool. What a fantastic feature to have if you're a dog lover and it's summertime, and you need to run into the store.

My brother does have the FSD, (full self driving subscription). You say it's a game change, fine. I wasn't impressed. My brother would drive me around in FSD everywhere.....tying to sell Tesla on me. Again, not impressed. Sure, it's great technology...fine.

Here are my thoughts:

To me, it's not a head turner. Cosmetically, they do nothing for me. If you gave me one, I would sell it, although my wife likes them.
They are not attractive. As many of you know, we don't live in WA anymore, but I lived and sold real estate on the Island for many years. The Island is so saturated with Tesla's, mainly asian international owners.

It' like Costco or Big Box. Mass market cattle, millions of Teslas are on the Island and the Eastside. Yes, I've been to their showroom in Bellevue Square, and even have taken the test drives. I like the interior, it's fine. Outside is plain and ugly. Again, too many on the road.

Musk is a genius, and respect and honor for what he's done, and really impressed he created Starlink.

Tip: Don't ever be tempted to rent an electric car at the airport, and don't be tempted to take the "Manager's Special", when booking your rental car. You'll be sorry. The rental car companies can't even rent them, and if you do, it will be the last time you'll ever rent an electric car.

For renting, ICE is the way to go. You can fill up, or top off in fuel in 7 minutes and you're done. Long road trip, same thing. Never, ever rent an electric car on a long road trip. It will be the last time you'll ever do it. Brutal.

There's a lid for every pot. Tesla is not my thing. I honor that you like it, but, it comes down to cosmetics, (not a head turner), and they're too common. Everywhere on the eastide, thousands and thousands of them.

Really nice trim on the new performance edition AWD. By far the most popular is the base RWD Doesn’t do much for me either
And yes dog mode seems cool.

Driving a Tesla lets Elon Musk hack into your thoughts. That’s the first step of replacing you with a more compliant clone, body snatchers style.

The cyber trucks are the ugliest, most ridiculous vehicles I’ve seen since maybe the amphicar.

If you own, drive and park a Tesla Cyber Truck, it screams....."look at me, I need attention". "I'm special".

Better and cheaper if you go to your Facebook Ego page and boast about your vacation photos, your business deal, and what you fed your dog last night. "Look at me, I'm important".

Seriously, some people need to use Facebook, (and I'm not talking about specialty clubs and groups like Die Hard Cougs), to feel important, because it's obviously a void in their life and they need to post daily their life story on Facebook in order to feel "I'm special".

Seriously. It screams that you need attention, and what's interesting is they can't see it. They look like ID's.

We're all different...and that's why they make Subaru's and Motorcycles.

Do I really care what you fed your dog last night? 🤣

But....as CJD would say, at 11:59pm at night, (at the end of the day).....I agree, the Cyber Truck is by far the ugliest and most ridiculous vehicle ever.

Screams..."I have money, and look at how important and special I am!"

I’m seeing more and more of those. I agree ugly AF. I drive a Rivian and it’s amazing.

Don’t own one but fair amount of experience driving a couple family members Teslas.. I will say this - interior styling/comfort leaves a lot to be desired especially on the lower end models. Stiff drives all. If you are driving over uneven terrain you will be in for a bumpy ride - especially with the 3 and Y models.

2024 model Y - spent a week driving family members vehicle last month as I was considering buying one. Super stiff suspension. Deal breaker for me but probably not for other people. Didn’t like riding in the back seat and really don’t like riding in the back of any Tesla model due to poor comfort and poor design/layout.

I’ve also heard and read of build quality issues and the Y and 3 being cheaply built. The Y handling is OK but for comparisons sake I have a 2012 BMW 535 as a summer car and the handling, comfort and ride are vastly superior to the Y model. IMO the Y is a big step down from the Tesla model I have a fair amount of drive time in:

2017 model x 100d - I’ve put a couple thousand miles on this over the years and love this car - great handling, decent drive and pretty comfortable. But not the back seats. Balls to the walls acceleration if you care but I don’t. Again, IMO the Y is a significant step down in quality from the X.

Even uglier than a Gremlin. And completely useless as a truck. It’s 100% an addadicktome purchase.

"addadicktome".....priceless! Thanks, Willie. I almost spit my coffee.

I will add that in LA, Teslas for what ever reason seem to have inoperative turn signals when changing lanes, they tend to cut people off, and they tend to tailgate worse than most. It is almost a meme here...Karen is rumored to be a Tesla driver.

I’m a terribly cynical person by nature and make fun of people that drive pickups when they have little need for them. Especially these days with the oversized and overpriced monstrosities we see on the roads. They quite effectively appeal to satisfying some men’s libidos and addressing their insecurities.

Why worry about others so much?

Who cares what people drive or if they drive?

Seems odd.

Uber, so long as they are courteous and properly practice the rules of the road, I agree.

Now, when it comes to putting a honking big pickup in a compact parking space, then I do some grumbling.

I will confess, my facebook use has doubled this year. I've posted twice in 2024, up from once in 2023.

None of them were pictures of the dog's food. Or mine. Or the dog.

My son’s new RST has that. Lots of EVs have that. He has rented Teslas and didn’t enjoy it. Didn’t like needing to go into the screen for everything.

Making fun of male insecurity doesn’t imply “worry”. Did I hit too close to home?

People with money do all sorts of crazy chit all the time.

Have you seen some of the accessorized/customized cyber trucks? They scream “look at me” for sure.

As in, “Look at me! I have so much ****ing money I can burn 🔥 it up on a hobby rig I drive on Saturday”

I couldn’t care less what people drive or why/how they spend their money.
