Could be. There was some thought Lloyd might want an easier out back to GU. Few is also basically the God Father up there. Assistant coaches can only leave with his blessings. Grier hasn’t come back.I get the idea it’s the U of A that’s put the brakes on, not Lloyd. He may have felt he was a lock and asked/demanded a pile of money so they are reconsidering or making him sweat.
1. Smith has only coached at WSU for 2 years. Doubt he would leave after that and before taking WSU to the NCAA Tourny, either next year or year after that. I think Smith stays 4,5,6 years MINIMUM.
2. Why would he go to the MESS that is Arizona, be banned from post season, and be set up to be fired, replaced, when there coukd easily be far better opportunities down the road.
3. His Wife ia a COUG FAN, and is from the Chelan, Eastern WA area.
Yeah the more money is important, but money isnt the only thing.
And I think he knows that the Arizona Job isnt a good job.
And if Smith were to Leave, he wouldnt want to goto Arizona, where he would then have to coach against WSU, 2,3 times a year.
Its just NOT BLOODY DAMN LIKELY SMITH GOES TO ARIZONA.
But he will, and has to at least listen, then probably say no, then use that to semi leverage a lottle tiny bit more pay, resources, his analytics equipment in gym, etc.
I live in Manson. Chelan is the big city. She is from Manson not Chelan.
Go Trojans! I used to do color for the games at KOZI back in the early 80's. We parked the team bus next to the field and hauled 2 lawn chairs and a card table up to the roof. That's where we did the play by play from.I live in Manson. Chelan is the big city.
Everybody has in laws problems, but Smith also has a Manson family to deal with. She is from Manson not Chelan.
Ah, those were the days, 79. I was part of the play-by-play crew as a WSU student in the mid-70s that broadcast Pullman HS basketball on KWSU. We called the games from some interesting locations and conditions throughout the Frontier League. But the one I will always remember was at a playoff game in Yakima (I think it was West Valley HS) where the "radio booth" was up in the rafters directly above the court. It was like broadcasting from the Goodyear Blimp. We had to haul all the radio equipment (including the bulky Marti unit) up and down a steep, long ladder...one careful rung at a time!Go Trojans! Must have been the old West Valley. Played there many times at Eastmont during those years. Mid 70's? I played against Pat Beach in the 77 Football playoffs when he was at PHS. I believe he played hoops too? You ever call any of his games?Ah, those were the days, 79. Nice! Like I said, it was the 80's. We were lucky to have chain crews most of the time.New field and track. Go Trojans
Oh yes, Pat Beach was a stud basketball player. He was the star of the Greyhounds the year I did play-by-play. He really did play like a football player on the b-ball court. Opponents bounced off his body like bugs on a windshield. Pretty sure we are both talking about West Valley HS. Maybe I saw you on the court or in the crowd? LOL, I feel like the old man in a rocking chair fondly recalling days of yore.Must have been the old West Valley. Played there many times at Eastmont during those years. Mid 70's? Bouncing off of Beach's tree trunk body wasn't exclusive to basketball. I bounced off his thighs for an entire 4 quarters when we played them in football and he was at MLB! Like hitting a brick wall. Doubt you ever saw me as I played at Eastmont and the only time we faced PHS was in the football playoffs in 77.Oh yes, Pat Beach was a stud basketball player. You were hired by Jerry Isenhart at Radio Lake Chelan?Go Trojans! I used to do color for the games at KOZI back in the early 80's. We parked the team bus next to the field and hauled 2 lawn chairs and a card table up to the roof. That's where we did the play by play from.
Yep... and Steve Byquist. Worked with Scott Brundage doing the games. You were hired by Jerry Isenhart at Radio Lake Chelan?
Val Limburg (my Murrow advisor and an absolute legend) set me up with an Interview with Jerry, (after my Internship at KIRO, and after I declined a KIRO Newsradio offer). My interview was basically working on-air in the studio live at KOZI for the weekend, in August of 1982, as Jerry listened from his hilltop home.Yep... and Steve Byquist. Val Limburg, also my advisor, was indeed a legend. As was Jim Dunne, my Com 165 & Com 365 professor who drilled into us journalistic integrity that is sorely missing today. As you might expect from an older, crankier guy....I just don't think they make college faculty members like they used to.Val Limburg (my Murrow advisor and an absolute legend) set me up with an Interview with Jerry, (after my Internship at KIRO, and after I declined a KIRO Newsradio offer). I met with Jerry at his house, and then he offered me a full time gig with a fully furnished apartment on the south shore of Lake Chelan. I think the offer was $800 a month. I respectively declined. In the end, I'm glad I did. Certainly fun times, though.
My sister actually owns custom waterfront on the north shore , so over the years, in the summer, we're always in Chelan. Good times.
And, good local food. 3 good or fun restaurants when we frequently go to: 1. The Liberty Cafe on Blewett Pass. 2. The Cottage Cafe in Cle Elum. 3. The Apple Cup restaurant in Chelan.
I was only at KOZI for one year, 1980. But what a year. Pre-internet and cable days, the main source of info was either reflector tv or radio.Val Limburg (my Murrow advisor and an absolute legend) set me up with an Interview with Jerry, (after my Internship at KIRO, and after I declined a KIRO Newsradio offer). You sure Smith won't take Lloyd's spot at GU?Kyle Smith safe in Pullman. Tommy Lloyd to U of A.
