I always thought he'd be a good college head coach. 😒
I don't like it when there are "rules" and people knowingly break them, but the NCAA is just flat out stupid. There have been so many rules put into play with its okay to screw a,b,c as long as you don't screw d,e,f that one of my biggest wishes is for a complete overhaul and start from scratch. They should have fired him last year after the violations.
Does Meyer want to be part of a power 5 conference and at Nebraska or to a school that doesn’t know where they will be in three years .Urban Meyer’s agent just rang the register.
ASU could be scary good, really fast in this age of the portal.
Counterpoint…sanctions brings modest early expectations and the ability to rebuild with a longer leash. Taking a job like that should give you more leverage for a longer contract. I’m sure there are coaches who’d prefer this scenario than jumping into a vacant job left by a guy who had massive success and went to the NFL or another college job.Any coach with a lot of experience will stay away from ASU, due to the pending sanctions, and unfortunately due conference uncertainty. Of course money can solve a lot of problems, so a huge contract will help offset those concerns. So I would rule out any big name coach, my guess is the find a coach from the Mountain West.
Every fan base has unreasonable expectations. Hell we thought we were gonna come out and beat BYU first game with Leach after CPW!Love the point/counterpoint, Roses & 90.
You are both right.
I have done both, more than once....followed a successful guy and went into a total meltdown. In hindsight, the meltdown is definitely easier. 90's comment about expectations and leash length are right, and also important is the good will that a fireman always has as he approaches the blaze. Of course, that is predicated on working for a sane and rational boss. The ASU fan base is not known for rationality, so the half life in that job is not among the longest in the country. BUT; and this is a big deal; that fan base has probably been beaten down now to the point that a coach would get 3 years to produce measurable progress before the pitchforks came out, rather than the 2 years that an ASU coach would normally get. That does not guarantee a good hire, though, as evidenced by the guy who just got fired.
The 1st quarter meltdown on this board, epic!Every fan base has unreasonable expectations. Hell we thought we were gonna come out and beat BYU first game with Leach after CPW!
