Bat signal up

Maybe all our new commits will be guys from tiny towns, who don’t have twitter. Have to wait for them learn twitter and start an account. If this is another one of those stories I’ll be cautiously pessimistic about our direction.

It's a recruit with offers but he wants to let the other schools to find out from him rather than the Twitter. Its someone no one is going to guess, we'll be pleasantly surprised by him, but it's not someone as potentially exciting as Orion Peters.

He has a few Power 5 offers, with Boise mixed in. Like that he has a ton of Ivy League offers. Always like seeing linemen with Ivy League offers.

Looks like we beat out Oregon too

Arizona St was the more serious threat. Dieu grew up a fan of the school so Rolo did a good job of winning him over. He's a smart kid of high character, something you like to see out of OL recruits.

I noticed he is a tad shorter 6'2 and a bit heavier 280 than we are used to getting for our line recruits. He at least had plenty of interest from all over so my guess is he can play. Let's see what this kid can do after a few years in the weight room.

It’s awesome we beat out his childhood favorite, but it also makes me grin to take one away from Nike U. They’ve been the top tier recruiting team in the PAC and top 10 nationally lately, so I’m optimistic about the kid.

Nice work. Looks like a center

For a team that does some running, he can be a center. He looks more comfortable in drive blocking than pass blocking. A more natural guard, but being a center is as much about personality as it is about physical tools, so who knows? If he wants to play center it appears from the tape that he could probably make that work.

Looks like he’s a wrastler too. Smart, versatile, understands leverage, good use of hands...probably could play about anywhere they need him.

State wrestling champ. I love that in big o lineman.
In anyone who’s blocking or tackling really. BTW, there was another guy who was a wrestler and I think recruited as a center a couple years back I was pretty excited about, have to think he’s a RS soph or junior now...can’t remember his name.

Carlos Freeman was the state champ in Oklahoma IIRC. Don't think he played much.

Yeah that’s who I was thinking. He graduate already??

Yup. Left after the 2016 season without ever playing in a game. Apparently he was hurt his whole career. Not that Riley Sorenson and Fred Mauigoa needed his help.

For a center or a tackle, either one, either wrestling or basketball are good things. Guards are a somewhat different world. Give them 3 quick steps and the ability to engage a LB, or the ability to take on a DT, plus some drop back pass blocking ability, and you have a full package. Centers can be asked to do similar things, but a really valuable center is almost a line QB and also has the ability to move laterally after the snap when required to do so. A good center has to understand the offense as well as the QB, and make sure that others understand the blocking scheme. A center who can pull is a thing of beauty to watch, and delayed blocking schemes are really fun to break down with a good center.
