Whoever keeps scheduling Arizona schools in Pullman in mid- to late-November is evil in a way I can get behind.

Field will be wet, and showers may be lingering. Could even turn into some light flakes by kickoff time. Temp will probably be around 35, with a breeze.

Oh, and current temps in Tucson are running in the low 80s. Arizona folks will be freezing.

It's a home field advantage like no other. When you live in a tropical or desert climate, you have no way of acclimating yourself to extreme cold weather. It's an advantage that can't be understated. If you have a clear talent advantage, that can overcome it, but it a game of similarly matched teams, playing in cold weather; especially when you fall behind, feels like you're wearing a weighted blanket.

Its definitely part of the reason we saw Gardner Minshew and Co. score an unprecedented 55 first half points against them the last time they came to the Palouse.

We did exactly what we needed to do in that, which was jump them right out of the gate. This Arizona team is young and learning how to stay in games, so if we let them hang around, they could easily make a game of it.

It's also why Gardner kind of pooped his pants in the Apple Cup.

Not literally pooping one's pants like some notable figures have alleged to have done recently. More of a metaphorical dump.

I think that had more to do with UW's talent in the back 7 and our stubbornness with regard to varying our play calling.

In that situation, as long as you're on the field and playing, you don't really notice the cold. But when you come to the sideline and cool off, it takes a bit to get going again. Eventually the cycle wears you out, and it gets harder and harder to get warmed back up.

I've never been big on the idea of the IPF. Honestly, if I was coaching, I wouldn't use it heavily. I'd rather get my team acclimated to playing in the weather and maximizing that late season advantage. But, I'd make sure it had a robust heating system. That way, when we're going to play in Arizona in September, I can crank the heat for a couple weeks and get them more accustomed to that...and try to negate ASU/UA's climate advantage.

Actually rumor has it that they've actually been having team meetings in the walk-in freezer at a nearby Cash 'N Carry in Chandler!

Seems like Arizona plays this late date in Pullman almost every season.

The rout in 2018 was mentioned, but 2016 was also one 69-7.

IPF is more about bowl practices than November games.

IPFs are hugely important. When you’re implementing new wrinkles or focusing on technique and fundamentals, rain, wind, and cold becomes a distraction. Most of our games are played in good weather, so having a good environment to practice in is critical.

IPF are about selling recruits and to use for practice late in the season and off season winter. However many sport benefit. Baseball is one, soccer for the off season workouts, Tennis can play indoors, Track and Field, just to name a few.

None of this matters if we putter around early and keep them in the game. Kind of game you need to get up 21-0 in the first quarter and keep your foot on the gas, they will fold.
