Bench pollard

Pollard is an absolute stud; not the most talented guy, but he plays as hard as anyone. The best basketball move made my Kyle Smith was to get Elleby back. Game after game, he is often the best player on the floor. Smith is doing a lot with little talent. Can't wait for a couple of his recruiting classes.

10 boards, 8 points, plus good defense. That is good production. If you bench him, who do you replace him with?

Nice win and huge game by Elleby. I was worried about what would happen if there were some long scoreless stretches by the Cougs, but they played through them. Noah Williams also had a strong game and Pollard was anything but a total liability. His defense and rebounding were critical to the win. Can't ever complain about a victory after the past few fruitless years.

Voldo was huge too. He allows Pollard to sit more, which frees Jeff up to play more aggressively on the defensive side of the ball. Neither helps much on offense, but the D has been good.

After a couple of decent outings with fewer mistakes I thought Bonton had possibly turned a corner. The Husky game showed he is what he is--an undisciplined, out-of-control turnover machine in charge of the one position on the court that demands just the opposite. Imagine this team with a steady leader at the point.

How many turnovers and missed lay ins
Yeah; lets bench someone that shoots 40% (team shot 38%), someone who doesn't commit a turnover yet helps cause the man he is guarding to commit 5 turnovers, and someone who helps hold the leading scorer for the other team 7 below his average. Yeah let's bench him. As stated above; we have so many people to replace him with. Behind Elleby he is our most important player (In my opinion)...

If he were a lot better, he would not currently be at WSU, would he? He is what he is, a sometimes brilliant player and sometimes not. What he is more importantly, is a building block for this team. He is helping this team be competitive, which will help to bring in better players. Besides, Coach Smith believes that he is an important piece of this team or else he would be on the sidelines next to Henson.

Pollard frustrated Stuart so much that I thought Stuart was going to pop him. Pollard is all fight. Absolutely need that kind of player on a team to be successful.

Bonton seems like a real good young man, very thoughtful, well spoken, and appreciative of his opportunities at WSU. He certainly struggled for most of the game last night and was the subject of some verbal abuse by yours truly, parked on my keister comfortably in the recliner. I can't help but root for the guy.

I am hopeful Coach Smith brings in additional depth at point guard. As Wooden used to say, the bench is the coach's best friend. Bonton still takes really poor shots and turns it over way too much - but he's the best available so there's not much Smith can do. I would have to think it drives Smith crazy.

Winning ugly. Such a problem, I know.

When Bonton is on, he is lights out. His game vs Oregon State, for example. Yesterday was definitely the opposite.

One thing he is really good at though always: free throws. He is 80% for the season this year.

Bonton is also a key cog in our defense. He and Williams are major upgrades athletically on the defensive end. Add Elleby Pollard and Robinson, you get no real weakness on D.
