In new podcast Bonton talks about training in Portland and not having made a decision on whether or not he will be playing for WSU next year..🤯

These guys like to keep their options open and that is probably a good thing. Waiting for the right situation I would guess.

1. Flowers. 2. Bonton. 3. Noah. 4. Efe. 5. Dischon Jackson, would probably be tied for best starting Lineup in the Pac 12. That would be one hell of a starting lineup.

Short Term, Bonton would probably be good for this season.

Mid to Long Term, Bonton might slow down the development of Noah, other players.

If Bonton can either be drafted 2nd round(Bottom of 2nd round), or can go NBA G League, or if he will sign a undrafted free agent contract, deal, then Bonton probably doesnt come back. But if Bonton cant do any of those options, then Bonton will probably return.

And the NBA, scouts, Coaches, etc, will probably let Bonton know whats going to happen.

And that is probably what Bonton is waiting for. He is probably waiting to hear from NBA, whats likely to happen with him.

I wish Bonton the best, but I don't see him getting on an NBA roster. You need to be an athletic freak to make that league.

Basically I see Bonton instead of Flowers should he stick around. Same type of player. Flowers was more efficient against weaker competition in the Sun Belt/MAC. I think we'd all be happy if Flowers was as productive as Bonton and am not sure how we'd function if they needed to share the ball.

I think he is a good basketball player. I do not believe he makes an NBA roster either. However, I do think he can make a lot of money playing basketball overseas.

Flowers is MORE OF A DISTRIBUTOR, then Bonton. Bonton is more of a SG then a PG, and only played PG because he had to, because of a lack of PG's. Now that there is a PG like Flowers, and a good back up PG in Koulibaly, Bonton can focus on scoring, and with a PG DISTRIBUTOR like Flowers, Bonton can score more efficiently without as many turnovers, wild, crazy shots.

Flowers is 6ft 1 in and is more of a semi pure, semi true PG. Bonton is 6 ft 3 and is more of a SG, then combo guard, but is a combo guard that can play PG when has to when lack of PG.

All 3, Flowers, Bonton, Noah, are too good, are needed as PG, SG, Wing, to not start.

That is why Flowers will be the DISTRIBUTOR PG, Bonton will be SG. And Noah who is 6ft 4 in the same size as Marcus Capers was and just as athletic as Capers was, will start at the Wing, 3 spot, just like Capers to make room for Bonton at the 2, and Flowers the Distributor at the 1 spot.

That, this is why Warren, Rapp got time at PG, to help DISTRIBUTE to Bonton, and so that Bonton wouldnt have to be the PG.

For the same reason Flowers who is too good not to start will be the DISTRIBUTOR PG.

There are tons of obscure foreign pro leagues. He can make money playing ball somewhere.

I dont think he is a NBA player either. But I could maybe see a team picking him as a ultimate extreme flyer pick as the last pick of 2nd round, or getting a signed undrafted free agent deal, or the G League, only to not pan out, not make a roster, etc.

But whether he Bonton does or doesnt, he is weighing his options, finding out info, and is waiting to hear from the NBA on whether the NBA thinks he will get drafted or sign a undrafted free agent deal, or G League or NOTHING.

If the NBA tells him that he will get NOTHING, Bonton might probably come back to WSU

If the NBA tells Bonton that he will get drafted 2nd Round, or Sign undrafted free agent, or G League, then Bonton would probably leave.

If overseas ball is a option, then Bonton probably stays because overseas doesnt pay enough to leave, and it would probably still be there after his final season.

There are leagues all over Europe, and Asia. Brazil and Australia also have leagues. If he has a connected agent, he is good enough to play a long time and make a lot of money.

Bonton and Flowers are basically the same type player, a shoot first point guard. If Bonton was to return which I doubt will happen Flowers will probably move on. They could play together but I’m not sure there is enough ball to go around, plus Noah will get most of the minutes at the other guard. Not even considering all the other guards and their playing time

Yes...there is no shame in not making the NBA but instead playing in other professional leagues.

The NBA is an athletic freak show...and I mean that in a positive way. There are very few that can make it without having that incredible God-given athleticism.

Very few make the NBA. There is lots of money overseas. A top player overseas can pull over a million. At one point WSU had 2 alumni among the top paid overseas players. Thomas Kelati 1.4 million and Taylor Rochestie at 1.1 million. Both Adam Morrison and Dickau went to Russia for around 800,000 certainly nothing to sneeze at. There have been several NBA bench players who have left for more money overseas. G league money is improving especially with the NBA two way contracts but money is way better overseas.

If the NBA is unlikely, then it comes down to which team/league he goes to overseas or S America. For a kid right out of college, there is still that NBA hope, so exposure is as important as money. That probably cuts you down to 5 or 6 potential leagues. A major (read: well funded) team in any of those leagues probably has some guys right now and Bonton would not be a clear upgrade. So if you go to one of the lesser (read: less well funded) teams in the half dozen or so higher profile leagues, then how much money is enough? And if the money is borderline, do you try another college season to improve your professional appeal?

The fact that he has not come down with a decision yet suggests that the situation is borderline. If he was a likely NBA player, or if there was a lot of money in a high profile European league (for example), then he would already have announced. Looks like he either goes to a less well paying job in a higher profile league, or he takes cash to go to a well funded team in a lower profile league. Either one makes another year in college more attractive...so it is not an easy call for him to make.

All of this is just reading the tea leaves, but it is what seems to make the most sense to me, given the delay in deciding.
