BoR Meeting this week

Thanks CSB!

This echoes what Barry Bolden (Head Honcho) predicted at Brand X when he laid out why none of the Pac-10 teams will be leaving:

"To wrap it up, we’re not saying the latest reports sound like more of the same hysterical bloviating we’ve been hearing for 11-plus months or anything like that … but the latest reports sound like more of the same hysterical bloviating we’ve been hearing for 11-plus months."

Also, Jon Canzano, who used to cover the Pac-12 for the Portland Oregonian newspaper, suggests that UCLA may try to come back to the Pac-12 in 2030.

So sounds like there's already some buyer's remorse in Westwood

A bunch of losing seasons in FB and finishing 4th or 5th in hoops over the next several years will accelerate that buyer's remorse. Of course, by then the UCLA AD that got them into this will have talked himself into the same job at a midwest school.

The giant pile of money will cushion the blow.

Agree, from the standpoint of the institution and its budget.

Disagree, from the standpoint of the fans, and probably alum contributions/attendance/influence.

It will be very interesting to see how that plays out, and what minimum level of success will be enough to keep the wolves from the AD's door. And when it comes to hoops in particular at UCLA, lack of success can actually topple presidents (and has). Football not so much....if they can win 6 games every year and squeak into a bowl it will at least buy some time.

Getting UCLA back while replacing USC with SDSU would be so amazing
Yes! The things dreams are made of. Let SC get battered in their road games. They didn't like going to Pullman? Let them go to Happy Valley or East Lansing....let alone Columbus or Ann Arbor. When they lose a road game to Purdue, Wisconsin, Illinois or someone like that you will hear the shrill squeals as the wheels start to come off at their fan sites.

Only time will tell on how USC's fortunes will fair, but it's important to note that Nebraska hadn't won less than five games in a season from 1962 to 2010. They've now had four wins or fewer in five out of the past six seasons. They started out hot in the Big 10 and went 37-16 in their first four seasons but have generally stunk since then with a 23-45 record over the past six seasons. Playing outside of your natural recruiting region is tough.

Nebraska’s demise in Football is unfortunate. I always enjoyed watching the Tom Osborne teams run the wishbone to perfection, and the annual battles with Oklahoma and Colorado. The problem with all the conference realignment besides recruiting is it kills the pageantry/rivalries that makes college sports special…Nebraska/Ohio State even if Nebraska was still a powerhouse just isn’t the same as Nebraska/Oklahoma.

I don’t think the Big Ten contracts are in stone yet and the payouts could be smaller than projected.
