A two sport athlete with WSU in his final 3 is set to announce tomorrow. We'll see if this has any effect. Cougs are the front runner.

Despite what we moan about on this board, there are a huge population of people and especially younger people that give a sh*t about this (Rolos vax status). I would wager a lot even like it. I would bet when I was 18 I would be against it too. Will be interesting.

I was pissed when they mandated seat belts.

We lost out to liberty 😂

Are you joking? Are are you seriously factually saying that WSU/Rolo lost out on a football recruit to Liberty College?

If not a joke. If serious, then that's just as bad/embarrassing as Wulf's recruiting.

Liberty University finished last year ranked #17 in the nation and has been in a bowl game in each of the last 2 seasons (and won them)....so I'll give them some credit. Their coach, Hugh Freeze, may not be the most honest guy in the profession, but he's been a winner at Ole Miss and now Liberty.....and has a reputation of being a good recruiter.

Signing the contract regarding not having sex outside of marriage would have been a deal breaker for me.

What's next? Rolo starts competing with Univ of Idaho, EWU, Montana, Portland St, CWU, Long Beach St, PODUNK Mid Majors, FCS, etc, and not only competes against them for recruits, but loses?

Doesn't matter if they are North Dakotah State National Champs, or if Portland State, Long Beach State, Liberty, etc, PODUNK Mid Major, FCS, had 1,2,3,4 awesome football seasons.

A P5, should not have to compete with them for recruits, and if a P5 does compete with them for recruits, they shouldn't lose, and if if a P5 does lose a recruit to them it's EMBARRASSING.

Football is different then Bball. In Basketball P5 bball programs compete with these colleges all the time for recruits, and lose recruits to them.

NOT IN FOOTBALL, or if it does happen in football, ITS RARE and EMBARRASSING.

Paul WULF competed for recruits with these colleges, and won some and embarrassingly lost some, and look at where it got him, WSU.

Pretty sure the OPTICS of the Rolo saying he is not vaxing may have factored into this.

WSU doesn't need this crap, happening.

Would Ore St, ASU, Colo, Utah, Arizona, any Pac 12 team, any Big 12 team, etc, have competed against Liberty for a recruit and lost?

Probably not.

Embarrassing.

Is any contract in CFB adhered to these days?

WSU enticed 5 football coaches to break their contracts since you left high school.

Perhaps this contract is non enforceable if you stick to sleeping with your professors at Liberty?

Cause.

After thinking about this some more, here is how I breakdown what probably happened.

Yeah there is a theoretical 1% possibility that despite the optics of Rolo's mess, that he might have not cared, thought that Rolo/WSU was good, but that Liberty was better, or did the hat dance to determine which to goto.

But here is what I think probably happened.

WSU, Rolo, BEFORE the optical mess, was the FRONT RUNNER.

Now I cant see the kid changing his mind, and choosing Podunk Mid Major/FCS Liberty College over THE FRONT RUNNER.

Then the optical mess happens, and then all of a sudden, he changes his mind to goto Liberty.

That would be a stretch to say that is JUST COINCIDENCE, that the optical mess had nothing to do with the kid changing his mind, going to Liberty.

The kid probably went to Liberty for 1 of 2 reasons.

Either the kid thought it was nuts that there would be a optical mess over what Rolo did, that Rolo would get treated that way. and wondet if he would get treated that way, and decided to goto Liberty to avoid that.

OR

He thought it was nuts that Rolo didnt vax, etc, the optics of this mess.

Either way, IF Rolo had either Vaxed, or didnt say that he had not vaxed, there wouldnt have been a problem.

Yes part of this could theoretically be the fault of those having a problem with what Rolo did.

But even if that were the case, Rolo still gets the Blame, because if he had Vaxed, or not said that he not vaxxing, then thete would probably not have bern a problem, and the kid probably would have chosen WSU over Liberty.

Or, Falwell Jr's wife.

It is supposed to be expulsion from school. I am guessing if they were able to keep it from getting out into the press, possibly. If it got out, I think they would have no choice but to boot him.

Recruiting can be weird. This recruit's profile shows offers from Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Mississippi State, and Arkansas, in addition to WSU.

In a vacuum, of course it's embarrassing as hell to lose out to Liberty in a fairly high-profile way. This is a Louisiana kid who stayed closer to home, though, at a team that finished in the top 20 last year and with a coach with recruiting connections all over the South. Sucks and embarrassing but it could be worse.

BTW, on recruiting more generally, trying to frame Rolo's vaccine status in simple terms misses the point. It's not about whether a 17-year old kid cares if the coach has a vaccine or not. He probably doesn't care. It's about what the parents think and, aside from that, the negative PR and messaging associated with it and Rolo being on the hot seat due to it. If I'm a recruit, I may not care at all whether my coach takes a vaccine -- I'm not even going to be at the school for more than a year, most likely, even if I did care -- but I care a great deal if you're asking me to move across the country to play for a coach about whom there is meaningful talk of him getting canned.

You mean Hugh Freeze or others can point to talk about Rolo getting canned by the same two WSU football blogs that campaigned for Paul Wulff to remain as coach, that the football culture out here isn't about wins and losses?

I get the feeling this kid is more of a baseball player anyway. Good enough to play both in college, better at football but loves baseball more. He'll probably choose at some point but for now he's gonna try both.

It's also possible the kid is a devout Christian and feels Liberty is a good place for him to be. Jokes and putdowns aside, decisions are sometimes made for a number of reasons not related to athletics.

But again, Liberty has had good and competitive teams in football, basketball, and baseball in recent years. Check out their records and results.
