Couple irritations.

1 - Was super easy to download the Mtn West app and watch video on my Amazon Fire. Downloaded the Pac 12 Now app for the football game and got two free minutes then they want my cable provider. Uhhh there is no cable provider for cord cutters. C’mon Pac 12. Get your ish together.

2. Two Spokane kids who playing for BSU. Thanks a ton, Ernie for not giving Naje Smith so much as a sniff. None. Zero. You knew about him as a freshman in high school and did jack.

Bamba looking good so far. Gueye hit and miss.

A rough watch. Really struggled from 3 and 3 assist the entire game. Bamba had a good game, although 4 TOs.

Work to do.

Are you sure it wasn’t Bone who missed on Naje? Seems like he graduated 10 years ago.

Nope. Guaranteed it was Ernie. Bone was an assistant at Montana at that point. I know this with absolute certainty because I spoke with them both on various players. Ernie blew it.

I was kidding. Just seems like he’a been out of HS for a long time but just looked him up and he graduated in 2018 so he’s playing a covid year. He did have grade issues but have no idea if that’s why Ernie wasn’t intersted. Ernie was good at Oregon but mailed it in at WSU.

Naje Smith, and the other what's his name Spokane kid, were ELITE 3.5 star at minimum, 4 star at average, 4.5 star at most recruits.

They were AMONG THE HIGHEST RATED RECRUITS in that year's Washington recruiting class.

1. Even if Ernie had gone after them, I seriously doubt Ernie would have landed them.

2. Ernie probably didn't go after them because he probably knew he didn't have a chance in hell of getting them.

3. Even Smith would have been hard pressed to get them.

4. If they hadnt gone to BSU, they would have gone to either of Gonzaga, UW, Oregon, UCLA, Arizona, USC, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas, etc.

5. BSU is a GOOD bball team, program. Last year they won the MWC, and won conference tourny, and went to NCAA, and beat WSU last year, so that is part of why those 2 kids chose BSU over WSU, Ernie, etc.

6. The reason WSU lost is NOT ONLY is BSU a good team, played well, etc, but it's hard to win, when in the 1st half 94% of your SHOT SELECTION is JACKED UP 3 POINT SHOTS EARLY IN SHOT CLOCK, and almost NO POINTS IN PAINT, not because of defense, but because the players want to play RATBALL run and GUN, JACK UP 3 POINTER, in the first half.

Despite that WSU still almost won at the end of the game.

The only thing Ernie gets blamed for in not getting the Spokane recruits, is that ERNIE WAS A LOSING TERRIBLY, HORRIBLY BAD LOSING coach that DIDNT have a chance in hell at getting the Spokane recruits, and that was too cowardly to even try, or to not quit, not move on.

Smith would have at least tried to recruit the Spokane recruits, and left the door open for them to walk thru, if they want to,

This loss is not about blaming Ernie as bad as he was, and as much as most of us disliked him.

This loss was about jacking up 3 pointers as about 94% of shot selection early in shot clock, and only making about 17% of them, and not having points in paint in FIRST HALF.

getting points in paint shouldn't be a problem with Gueye, Bamba, Powell, which WSU demonstrated in the 2ND HALF

Tyson Deganhart is a sophomore he came out of Mt Spokane on Smith’s watch. I doubt Smith could have swayed him away from Rice as their relationship went way back.
Naje went to JC out of high school. Same school as our new signee.
Deganhart was a 2 Star with offers from Denver, Idaho State, EWU and few others of the same caliber.

Smith talked about Deganhart last year. Basically said, they tried but wasn’t going to happen.

I give Kyle Smith some credit. His staff actually reached out to Naje coming out of JC but too much built up Leon love to overcome.

Still doesn't speak to the horror of the Pac 12 Now "streaming' app.

Leaving recruiting aside, the improved ball movement evident in the Texas St game was missing in action in this game. Gueye still hasn't improved his inside game and is too willing to settle for a 20 ft where he is at best a 25 % shooter, Why Smith is willing to let him fire up shots from 20 ft instead of working for position down low is a mystery to me. If we had Jackson we could develop a little bit of a high low action but obviously we don't have that.
