Bye bye Dissmores...

It takes a lot of money to do a major remodel on an old building, and current energy standards (which would have to be met if the remodel is significant) will require replacing most of the old equipment...which probably is overdue for replacement, anyway. It is easy to understand why older owners would view selling as an option. And of the potential choices, Rosauers is probably a better cultural fit than the national chain options. If this were back in the days when Robin was in charge, there would be a corner of the remodeled store dedicated to pictures on the wall, telling the full Dissmore's history. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

it has really gone down hill. Same store (and decor) for basically the past 20 years. Doesn't have the deli and "quick food" items that more profitable store chains have. The booze area is honestly what likely drive a ton of their profits.

Presidents come and go.
Politicians come and go.
Retail comes and goes....unless you're The COUG, or a registered historical landmark like The Roanoke Inn, (here on the Island).....or The Corner Club....

Sad to see the name go.

I was in Pullman last week, and they had discount signage out front and the parking lot wasn't very full. I assumed at that time that the closure was imminent.

Didn't stop though. Didn't like working there, and even when I lived on Military hill, I shopped at Safeway. Only reason I've been in Dissmores in 25 years was for dry ice when I was picking up Ferdinands.

I used to work at the Roanoke when I got out of school.

And draft beers were $1 EA, right? That's cool. Did you ever work with Chip?
Chip sounds familiar. It was a while ago...but yes, those prices sound correct. We poured a lot of Mirror Pond and Moose Drool at the time. I need to head back for a visit. I am sure Dorothy is still around. Actually my sister had lunch with her last week.

Dorothy is still around. Back in the day when you worked there, Hal was running the show. It's been a while since Hal has passed. One of the greatest things Dorothy did was enhancing the backyard with outdoor seating under several gazebos. She nailed it. Fun for our HS reunions, as well.

Today, the food is good, but pricey. Certainly not Dive-Bar prices. Still a fun place to go....and minors are still prohibited.
