Reopening his commitment. Seems like a great PG option as we had his interest before he decided to go to South Dakota St.

If TJ Otzelberger was recruiting him, I know he's a player. Otzelberger just left for UNLV, but he was Hoiberg's main recruiter at ISU.

Otzelberger asked the players and recruits to honor their commitment to SDSU but definitely sounds like Grill would follow him to UNLV if offered.

Grill only used his SDSU visit so he still has the rest.

TJ Otzelberger is one of the guys i wished that the cougs had hired. He will turn UNLV around in one or two seasons. He was the first one to recruit Grill and Grill will probably follow him. He liked the style of Otzelbergers teams ..Grill has too much talent to commit to slow ball at a University with bad facilities and a mediocre coach.

UNLV has a long and rich basketball history. South Dakota State was good before Otzelberger became their head coach three years ago. South Dakota State plays in a minor conference. I have no doubt you would complain about another coach with a similar track record he Chun had hired him.

Apparently he had too much talent to commit to rat ball at a university with bad facilities and a feckless over-the-hill coach earlier this year, which is why he chose South Dakota State over WSU.

The guy choose a coach with a style he wanted to play. He was the first coach to approach Grill and offer a scholarship Grill wanted to play a fast game in a winning system which would make full use of his many talents..The truth hurts i guess? The best bet for the cougs is that the current group of players stay and fashion a winning record. That would probably occurred under Kent with the new players coming in. Success builds success and fans are hoping that happens. Many of the current players came because they wanted to play an open and faster game or perhaps"rat ball" as you call it. I feel badly for a few of them who have little choice but to stay and play slo ball under the new coach They rounded them up and scheduled drills which is mandatory to keep their scholarships. In the very near future I think that many higher graded recruit able players will avoid Pullman not only because of the lack of facilities but also the style posters here want them to play .Be ready for many of the 2 star rated recruits whom certain fans here made fun of their abilities and ratings. You better hope that the new coach can evaluate and pick the better 2 star rated players.

Kent couldnt win with Franks and Flynn, couldnt win with Franks and Elleby. Thats a couple of pretty good combos to go a collective 8-28 in conference. Nobody supports Coug coaches more , and longer than me but the last 2 teams had too much tslent to be such a disaster.

By the way I like some up tempo too, but Kent went wrong by trying to to base his enire offense on transition. Smiths teams aversged 77 per game last year. I like offense and that is fast enough for me.

I feel badly that many players who came to WSU didn't get the kind of coaching and player development that they needed to raise the level of their play and help the team win more games. Flynn recognized the problem and decided to go where he will be coached up. Acquaah definitely benefited from a new program and raised the level of his game. When you say "the truth hurts, I guess", I'm assuming you mean the fact that Grill did not want to come and play for Ernie and his uptempo style but was willing to go to South Dakota State to play for TJ's uptempo style is the truth that hurts. I have no false hope that Grill will want to play for Smith....great if he does....but I do have genuine hope that Smith will bring in guys who want to play for him and want to be at WSU. We'll see what happens....but I love the fact that people are talking about WSU basketball for the first time in 5+ years. The change in coaches alone has reversed much of the apathy.

Also, just because Smith wont rely on the transition game like Kent did, doesnt mean they will be installing peach baskets again.
Smith has said the Princeton offense is used against them in recruiting so it's a thing. It's just not the reality.

1. Your saying that if players stay, win with new coach, Kent would have won with them is wrong.

From a talent standpoint, thats theoretically yes. But Kent had these talented players last season with the weakest most pathetic schedule in hiatory, and still only won 9,10,11 games.

Kent should have won 14 to 19 games last season. New coach would have. Coach K would have gotten 16 to 21 wins. So because of that Kent only getting 9,10,11 wins, shows that he would only get 8 to 12 wins next season. While new coach would get 13 to 20+ wins if players stay, and coach K would get 15,16,15.5 to 21+ wins.

Smith's record, and his many CREDIBLE ACCOLADES, ENDORSEMENTS, speaks for itself.

Also just because Smith was under slower ball Randy Bennet, doesnt mean Smith is slower ball.

Smith is between Randy Bennet, Tony Bennet, slowball, fast ball.

He is analytical, smart. He pushes it(Fast ball)with, when has advantage, with good passing, offensive flow, ball handling, without turning ball over, etc.

He slows it down, when doesnt have advantage, cant outfast the other team, cant maintain good ball control, reduce turnovers, etc, and instead slows it down, everybody moves, screens, pick and roll, triangle, princeton offenses, passing, driving, posting up inside, good outside open shots outside, good rebounding, good defense.

In other words he has a good Halfcourt offense. Halfcourt offense does not mean slow too. Halfcourt offense can be fast too.

Heck even coach K, duke doesnt run, gun all the time and slows it down for half court offense. Coach K, Duke isnt slow, or fast. In fact, in many ways coach K of duke is very much like Smith.

And Coach K of Duke is not viewed as too slow. Just like Tony is not viewed as too slow by players.

And Smith is not viewed by players as too slow.

In fact Smith has recruited plenty of top college, NBA like players who didnt think Smith was too slow, like Patty Mills, others.

So your being rediculous. Just like a couple, few were being rediculous, negative about the Leach hire, your being negative about Smith, another Leach like hire

So your wrong.

And you dont know what your talking about.

And you have no credibility.

And I will listen to Steve Kerr, Aand the GM of the Cleve Cavs, and Klay of the NBA, and Tony Bennet, and former coaches, players, etc, who are more authoritative, know what they are ralking about, that say Smith is a awesome hire, who are more credible then you, over you saying smith is a bad coach.

In fact I would be willing to put money on it, but since I dont gamble, I will literally eat my words if I am wrong, and am willing to do a challenge where loser literally eats both my words and your words.

Also warning out of the 3,4,5,6,7 times I have said I will literally eat my words if wrong, I have always ended up being right and not having to eat my words.

In other words you will probably lose and have to literally eat your words.

Smith has said the Princeton offense is used against them in recruiting so it's a thing. It's just not the reality.

Texas Tech is going to the Final Four based on Bobby Knight's motion offense which is pushing 50 years old. UVA and Tony are still running Mover/Blocker which is as old as dirt...errr, Dick.

Doesn't matter what system or offense - as long as it is successful - intelligent competitive players will gravitate towards it.

The best bet for the cougs is that the current group of players stay and fashion a winning record. That would probably occurred under Kent with the new players coming in.

OMG. A winning record would have NEVER occurred under Kent. Are you f-ing serious? Give it a rest, fer Chrissakes.

Caleb Grill was recently offered by Iowa State which is now a very good basketball program. This guy has talent and will land at a college which fits his style of play.

guess we dont have to wonder which former coach found this gem from Kansas and was wise enough to offer before other BCS programs???
