It's possible, but USC needs to knock off Notre Dame to give the Pac-12 late season credibility. An undefeated CU team would probably make the playoff at that point. The odds of the Big 12 champ making it through the season went in the toilet with OU's loss to Texas and I don't see an undefeated team staying home in favor of a team that lost.
If UW runs the table, they still need USC to knock off Notre Dame and they need the other top contenders to have a bad loss. They need Auburn to not lose except to the winner of the likely SEC championship featuring Alabama/Georgia. That virtually guarantees that the 2nd place SEC team has two losses. Again, the Big 12 is most likely to get left out if the mutts go on a run and West Virginia can't keep the run going. The mutts are a mediocre team and probably won't get through the gauntlet, but they have a good schedule for the 2nd half of the season if they can keep squeezing out wins. Oregon, CU, Stanford, and WSU are a combined 18-4 and running through that without a loss will get some attention. By virtue of losing early, UW is in the best position to get in with one loss at this point as long as the Big 12 flops, ND loses to USC and the SEC doesn't end up with two 12-1 (or better) teams. If Georgia is 13-0 and Alabama is 12-1....the Pac-12 could get hosed, regardless of the team from our conference.
Because they started so low in the rankings, Oregon will need a lot of help and some big wins to get into the playoff. Beat UW and WSU and they are probably #10 in the country. Unfortunately for the quackers, Utah is the only "good" team left on their schedule after that, so it's going to be hard to get to #4. They do have Nike money and ugly uniforms, but they need the B1G and Big 12 to eat themselves alive and end up with no teams with less than 2 losses to get there. It's a very thin chance for the Ducks.
WSU has Oregon, CU, UW and Stanford in the back half and that gives us some opportunity to make some noise. Assuming we can get some help, the AC may feature #5 UW against #7 WSU and with a win there and a Notre Dame upset by USC, the cougs could be sitting in a good spot at #5 heading into a rematch with USC. Avenge that game and have Alabama win the SEC and we might have a shot. Like Oregon, we need some chaos along the way, but a 12-1 WSU squad featuring Minshew's storyline and Leach's insanity and we just might have a shot.
USC and Stanford have no shot given their two losses and general weakness of our conference.
Of course, the reality is that nobody from the Pac-12 is making the playoff and our real best hope for a successful bowl season is that we have a highly ranked conference champ and another team in the Top 12 that can draw a Fiesta Bowl invitation......that gets our conference extra money and that extra bowl spot at the bottom of the pecking order. 10-2 or 11-2 WSU ranked no lower than #11 in the country would be hard for both the Cotton Bowl and Fiesta Bowl to bypass and we'd get a good look by both.
