Going through process, will maintain college eligibility. Interesting decision at this point in his career. I think he could have a better shot at an NBA career than Franks but it's pretty early. Will be interesting to see what he decides.

Interesting, I thought that option was only open to players after their junior year, obviously something has changed. I don’t see him going pro at this point but I’m all for him taking a look and see what kind of feed back he gets. Ultimately I see him play in college next year hopefully at wazzu

I think you can go through the process at any point but only once. At least that's what I remember. If I was in his shoes (as if I know what those shoes would feel like) I would have waited a year or two.

I see Elleby similar to Klay Thompson. Elleby has a more developed all-around game whereas Thompson had next level shot/release/range basically from day 1 which obviously has bigger value. Elleby was much more consistent shooting and had more range than I anticipated his first year. He still needs work on his shooting along with other parts of his game. I think he has NBA talent but is also in the same situation as Thompson. I think the change from Tony to Ken Bone really accelerated Thompson's progress because he was asked to do more than just spot up and shoot. I also think Kent to Kyle Smith could accelerate Elleby's progress and opportunity to reach the NBA. He will get so much more attention to detail and coaching.

Wish him well either way but obviously hope he comes back to WSU. I think he could be a really good fit with Smith if he embraces it but again I'm not in his shoes.

Two things.
First, why the heck isn't FB structured like this? Basketball and Baseball (different, but sorta similar) are.
Second, I can't believe he thinks he is NBA material now. The only have a 2 round draft. But then I thought the same about James Williams, and he may make it in the late rounds. Bad thing about FB, beyond the "no going back", is that is you don't make it on a roster the first year you are kind of done. BB, you have Europe and all the other leagues around the world, with the potential to make it to the NBA later (Baynes).

On the other site it was posted you can go through this process twice. I think Elleby will receive the feedback that he should return to college and ultimately will come back to WSU.

I think Kunc probably stays and Chance Moore and Ryan Murphy haven't really suggested the possibility of not playing for WSU next year. Pollard potentially back as well.

Who knows on Marvin Cannon but he seems more likely to leave than stay at this point even though he seems like a good fit for Smith's analytics.

John's decision will be interesting and haven't heard anything on Henson.

End of the day if players leave it's probably better sooner than later.

Did I miss something RE Marv? I have seen no indication he is looking to leave.

Yeah not sure on this either. IMO, he's pretty much guaranteed a starting spot next year if he stays. He considerably gained playing time as the season progressed, and I would think leaving for elsewhere could potentially set him back with his progression or playing time as a player.

Interesting comparison to Klay. Klay had the game all along, but he needed to develop it more, and his body language was often not good when he was going through the process. In fact a coach told me that NBA scouts said that was a big area for him to work on.

CJ is an intetesting one. I don't think he is anywhere near NBA ready, same as Klay after one year, but for different reasons. His shot was better than I expected, but a long way from serviceable by NBA standards

You have to question who's advising some of these kids. I like CJ. I think he's a nice player with a solid collegiate future, but the NBA? Seriously?

It came from a "WSU source" so take it FWIW:

>"A source within WSU Hoops has told CSN Jeff Pollard is considering his option to grad transfer. The source also said Ahmed Ali is highly likely to depart and that Marvin Cannon was once “50/50” at a point in time."

Who knows how reliable any of that is and it's dated with the Smith hire. I personally think Cannon is potentially a good fit for Smith especially if he can improve his consistency shooting the ball. He already is one of the better players on the roster in terms of making decisions.

In general I really think most should welcome the hire if they are able to connect with Smith & staff but of course I'm not in their shoes.

The Gonzaga rumor keeps surfacing for Elleby as the family does have some connections to Gonzaga. I believe that the cougs may do well not to lose more than 5 players from the current roster

There were rule changes around transferring but I believe players in football and basketball are still required to sit out a year even if a coach is fired. If that's correct and since getting to the NBA quickly seems like it's the priority how would transferring help? Seems again similar to Klay Thompson after his first year when his dad told him to stay put rather than waste a year sitting out. Seemed to work out for him.

Interesting. Not sure how I missed that. That you for sending it my way. With some hard work cannnon could be a good player. Has Capers specs with a little better offensive game.

Well he did make it very clear that he's just utilizing the declare rule to get his name out there. No harm in doing so IMO.

Plus, he's way ahead of Kyle Weaver at the same point in their collegiate career, and Weaver was drafted #38 in the second round of the draft after his senior season. Weaver earned something around 800,000-900,000 per year in his short lived NBA career, earning a total probably around 2 million or so, and this was in 2008-10. Not to mention whatever he has/is earning in international play.

Weaver had good coaching between his freshman and senior years.

So, yes, CJ is probably naturally ahead of where Damnit Kyle Weaver was after year 1.

He's nowhere near where Damnit Kyle Weaver was as a senior.

Yeah, just saying that if CJ continues to play with his high level of determination, effort, and "something to prove" attitude, he should continue to get better and better over the next few years. If so, there's plenty of room in the NBA for someone like him.

I loved watching Weaver. His defensive play was off the charts good.

He’s gotta learn to play D and not take stretches off.

Weaver was one savvy son of a gun. I share your sentiments. Loved watching him and that program then, which made it hard watching Bonehead and Kent waste all those gains.
