Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson is stepping down and will move into an advisory role within the athletic department, people briefed on the decision told The Athletic on Monday.

The 57-year-old Clawson has been a head coach for all but one season since 1999, across stints at Fordham, Richmond, Bowling Green and Wake Forest. He spent the 2008 season as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator.

Potential candidates to fill the Wake Forest job could include former West Virginia coach Neal Brown, James Madison head coach Bob Chesney and Washington State head coach Jake Dickert, people briefed on the situation said.

Not sure if Wake could match or beat CJD's current contract, but wonder if Dr. Schulz and Anne McCoy would suggest moving some of those NIL funds raised for John Mateer to a "Keep Coach Dickert" fundraiser?

Hopefully the speculation doesn't negatively impact the Holiday Bowl preparations

In the meantime, can we expect @BiggsCoug to post only nice things about Jake so as not to scare away Wake Forest? ;)

Exactly the opposite.

Schulz and McCoy would gladly be rid of his salary so they can downgrade to something closer to $1MM/ yr head coach.

WSU and the Pac-12 would be a huge jump in prestige, but would the guy at (for example) Montana State take the job for a $1.0M?

Dr. Schulz may have to come off some of that $250M windfall to get his No. 1 guy

HAHAHAHAHA!!! Yes, that is what we should worry about, because everything else is going so damn well.
