So, this is going to be a fascinating development in Boulder.

In what has been regarded as the greatest “TEAM” sport ever. Can you construct in a short amount of time a winning football program/formula with transfers and high-level talent?

This approach has not been able to take hold in the NFL despite years and years of Free Agency. The closest all-in roster construct attempt was with the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles and their "DREAM TEAM" attempt.

You could say once Bill Snyder got things somewhat into a plug-N-play flow at K-State, he was doing this type of constructing with JUCO kids’ year-in-year out.

The loaded-up 5-Star rosters in Lexington hasn't done a lot in college hoops over the last 10yrs.

This is going to be very interesting watch and challenge some of the foundation principles of building a winner in the sport of Big Time College Football.

Coach Prime has it covered.

I wonder how many kids would have hit the portal if Leach had the same rules in 2012. Props to Deion for cleaning house junction boys style. No doubt some decent talents were tossed overboard as collateral damage but that program needs to put as much space between the previous era and now.

I'm not expecting an instant turn around but I do think they'll be competitive soon.

That is just nuts. They are either going to rock or go down in flames.

Would have to check the numbers in terms of how many players it gained and lost, and you're talking about a different level of underlying talent, but USC pretty much tested this last season. Worked pretty well, albeit incompletely, for them.

According to ESPN 31 Colorado players have entered the portal since April 15th. That's close to 50% of their returning roster. I don't buy that this is a reasonable approach to rebuilding.

He is building a collection of mercs. This is not a team. He isn’t selling the university. He isn’t selling an education. He is a celebrity pitchman telling kids the NFL will scout them more at CU because of his name and network. This is shoulder rubbing under the guise of coaching.

His “Im coming” speech is gonna be “Im leaving” soon enough.

They could be just average too. Im sure NIL $$$ is gonna play a roll in it. He isn’t creating a culture of development tho. He is creating a culture of right now. What happens when kids won’t be 3rd string as a frosh and leave? He may have created a turnstile program where the only kids that stay are the two deep. You’re gonna need more than 44 guys to run a program.

Oh make no mistake they will stink this year…think first year with Leach. You can’t shed that many players, even if they aren’t good players, and expect a quick turnaround. With this much turnover this is a 3+ year project.

Interesting list

That list is either made up of programs who have vastly underachieved for years despite their big name facilities, coaches & program money or the Colorado, Cal’s & Missouri’s of the world who continue to have no real success as programs.

I think leaving if you’re not in the 2 deeps is going to be the rule, not the exception across college football.

I read a list of who the portal entries are, and it seems like most of them are 2nd or 3rd year kids, mostly ones who either didn’t play in 2022 or were backups who played little. The kind of kids who know after spring ball that they’re buried on the depth chart with no hope of PT after the influx of new players.
There are obviously a handful who would likely be contributors and aren’t leaving over PT, but those are a small portion of the story.
This could actually still be a positive for CU. Like the average level of talent has risen, and the bottom end is hitting the portal.

Agree. Kids dont see it as “developing.” They see it as not playing.

And let’s be honest. If you were a 4 or 5 star kid out of HS…. you have crushed football so far. Why would you go somewhere and sit for even a season? Go somewhere you are gonna be a meaningful contributor right away.

I like what Dickert is doing to try to combat players that are great, but developing behind at a position that has extreme depth, from going to the transfer portal.

What he is doing, is even if it's semi limited snaps, reps, in semi garbage, practice, live game time, Dickert Rotates the 2,3,4,5 deeps in, and gets them playing time on a semi consistent basis, so that they not only develop better, but also so that they keep the starters rested, and so that they don't rot on bench, and so that they don't NEVER play, get frustrated, hit the transfer portal.

And it seems to be working a little tiny bit more then if Dickert wasnt doing that, at least according to the spring game announcers, who announced what I am posting here

So I am just parroting what they announced, said.

I don't know if they are right, or if facts, stats, etc, back then up, but it does make logical sense to me.

And they are probably right, and I trust what they said is right.

Prime wants kids that fit with what he is doing.

He's running the guys out of the program that don't fit, and creating opportunities for kids to transfer in.

I've said this before, he'll be at Florida State at some point soon. His role as head coach is to recruit and sell the program. He has his assistants doing the rest.

This list is just crazytown. And just where are all these kids going to go to get a better opportunity? Would love to see an updated list at some point with where they all landed, if anywhere. And then an update in a year showing whether they started/played at their new team.

Look at 24/7. They dont have everyone but theyve got landing spots for kids.

If they're getting cut, which they likely are, what's the downside? University of Northern Colorado has scholarships, you lose some glamor but the bills will get paid.

My understanding is there were a few bridges burned with FSU, so it's not likely.
