Corso...wow

This is sad. Like a boxer past his prime...
Yeah it’s tough. On one hand that’s hard to watch and it’s easy to say dude should hang ‘em up. On the other, he loves what he is doing no matter what and sitting in a rocking chair somewhere isn’t going to do his fading mind any better.

I see what you're saying and perhaps my analogy is a bit off. Unlike a boxer, a guess there's no harm in giving him one more season in the sun.
Met him when I waved Ol Crimson in Boise. Very nice man.

As head coach at Indiana, Lee Corso gave a young Bill Doba his first college coaching job in 1977, the year I graduated from WSU. I've been out to pasture for nearly 5 years now, Doba for 15 years.

Glad Cougar

There comes a point where doing your thing is uncomfortable for everyone and harmful to the discussion. I think it's great to keep folks around that give us an idea of the history of the game, but when their presence becomes distracting in a negative way, you have to move on.

I've seen some suggestions that he come out and do the mascot head thing for the rest of this year, and that sounds better than what we've seen so far.

That was tough. He's been incoherent for a couple of seasons, but I think each year people think or say "well, its probably his last so let him have it." There's gotta be a better way, but I don't know what it would be. Maybe just the mascot head thing, but if I recall correctly he blundered that once last year too, so I don't know.

When doing Gameday in Pullman, it sounded like he said "Gimme that Duck head" when dawning the mascot head for his Gameday pick. I could be wrong but it sounded like he said that to me.

I don't remember now, but it may have been part of Corso's schtick. He does misdirection now and then.

I figured that the pandemic would be the justification for ushering him out. Guess not.

Lou Holtz was incoherent and mush-mouthed for a couple years before they retired him. He was so bad that Mark May had to interpret for him (May's verbal skills were fine, it was his logic that was incoherent).

It's been close to 10 years that Corso has been noticeably declining. When they were in Pullman, he sounded like he'd been at the Coug with the crowd for most of the night. And, based on the video above, he definitely said "duck head."

Lee is 87 years old, doing great for 87, but not great for TV. Hopefully the people around him let him know it's time to hang it up after this year. However like most people that age, I am sure Lee thinks he's doing great and will try to continue.
