Finally get to see WSU play on TV back here in the Great Midwest. First thing that comes out of the announcer Aaron Goldsmith's mouth at the start of the game: The Oregon Ducks vs. the Washington Cougars. For heaven's sake......

Good start due to hot 3-point shooting.....hope they can stay competitive.

Rolovich on with them now. I haven't watched Oregon too much this year. Their bigs are impressive in size, length, and skill.

We are shooting as well as we have all season. Yup, please continue.

Wow, if Cougs could've shot like this against USC & Cal......

I don't expect it to keep up, so it's imperative to take better care of the ball. Ducks are tough but a lot of the turnovers are unforced. That phantom foul on Bonton after a clear steal with the Cougs up by 5 was a backbreaker.

Goes without saying but incredibly impressive win. After the first 5 minutes we played toe-to-toe. Great team win. Hopefully the students come out on Saturday for Klay and definitely this team.

student section looked better tonight compared to what I’ve seen over the last few years. Still need another 2500 to fill it up but beats the crowds of 75-100 That are fairly common.

One step at a time, but now that we are playing real basketball, instead of that cr*p that masqueraded as hoops, kids will start to come out.

Looks like they drew their 3 millionth fan to Friel (since its opening) tonight - did they make an announcement?

Announced attendance was 3,082 which is 157 more than UCLA game.

Average is 2402 or 2294 if the Spokane game that drew flies is added in.
(Oregon State bumps that average by 800 or so if 11,000 is announced)

Historic average for Friel 4996 - but games were free for students through the 1st year of Len Stevens. (And the Pac 12 Network televises every home game, booking body bag games during Xmas break etc.)

The students started to come back once we showed we could compete when Dick Bennett came in. I still think that will happen even if it's not quite to the same extent 15 years later. Hopefully they can continue to shoot well. Maybe not 52% well but shot selection is definitely improving.

Very interesting comments from UO fan sites. Very few give WSU credit for last night's win. There were a handful of the usual "refs screwed us" comments but most posters were very critical of the Duck offense, calling it sluggish and inept. Reminds me so much of the same comments from opposing fans during the Bennett Ball days. It's the old "They didn't beat us, we beat ourselves" thing so commonly heard when Dick & Tony were on the sidelines. The Cougar defense once again has a way of making the other team's offense look bad. Keep it up, Cougs!

I think both are true. The Ducks are so much more talented than the Cougars. They have to play down. The Cougars more than took advantage and beat them. The Cougars earned this win.

I think both are true as well although I do remember as an example during the Dick Bennett years Oregon State fans melting down after a blowout loss complaining about WSU "uglying" up the game to win and those kind of comments didn't stop with them.

To me last nights game felt a bit like Oregon was somewhat waiting for the game to play out like it should with Oregon clearly the more talented team and it really never did. Defense was consistent, mostly good decisions by us, shots falling, etc. The whole game was obviously impressive but the final 5 minutes we pretty much choked the life out of them. I even said to my wife with a good amount of time left that I never let myself think it but this game is over.

I was irritated with the TV announcers last night already declaring victory for the Cougs with 43 seconds left and an 11-point lead. That's how crazy stupid paranoid I am with WSU athletics, no lead is safe! But in hindsight, the game was over at that point....I just didn't want anyone to jinx things. (The WSU-UCLA football game this year just reaffirmed my fear of blowing leads!)

One more thing: Kyle Smith totally outcoached Dana Altman last night.

I am definitely the same way having seen games spiral out of control over the years. Vividly remember being at the Arizona game with Fontaine at the line to put the game away. I'm also paranoid until the final tick of the clock.

I haven't allowed myself to feel the way I did last night since the Bennett days. Lets be honest. Oregon player-for-player is much more talented than we are but the better team last night definitely won. The post-game studio guys weren't prepared to talk about a WSU win after the game.

Smith definitely out coached Altman. I liked the "In the huddle" stuff FS1 had with Smith during timeouts. Smith was calm and confident. They knew what Oregon wanted to do and that we were outplaying them. The team in turn played like they belong as they need to.

Just like UCLA it's just 1 game. Lots of work still to do but it's good to see the improved play as a team and individual players as well especially in the face of the injury situation.

The refs, Charlie Range specifically, gave that game to Arizona. I remember numerous times when we would play UCLA or Arizona or some other highly rated Pac-10 team Charlie, Richie Ballasteros or another ref whose name escapes me would show up and do whatever it took to protect their seeds.

We have never had a home court advantage when it comes to basketball officials. I think it's also due to not enjoying coming to Pullman. Wasn't there a phantom lane violation late in a game at Pauley? I remember Bob getting pretty upset on the radio telecast.

And of course, the all-time screw job was the technical foul in the UO game when Bone was coach (his first year, I believe) that allowed the Ducks to tie the score on two free throws and send it into OT where we lost, setting the stage for a last place finish. None other than Ernie Kent was the beneficiary of that robbery.

What was that PF from Ferris’s name that ran onto the court?

WSU Won that game. Fact. According to the rules of basketball.

When the game clock expires, reads zero, at the end of the game, its the end of the game.

The team with the highest score, at that point, wins the game, is the winner.

Since WSU, was ahead at the game, when, after time expired, WSU did in fact win the game, was the winner.

The only exception to that, is if a foul is committed either before or as, at the same time the clock turns zero.

Any foul committed AFTER the game is over, does not apply, effect the game, as the game is over, and the results stand.

This is what the rule either is or at least SHOULD BE. And if that is not the rule. And if a foul is committed after the game is over, and if that causes the other team to win, that is BS.

The team that is ahead at the end of the game is the winner no ands, ifs, buts about it PERIOD. And that team was WSU.

WSU was ahead at end of game. WSU won the game. After WSU won the game AFTER the game was over, WSU players, fans, stormed the court, BEFORE the officials had recognized the game as over, but either at the same time, or after as the end of the game clock horn, buzzer went off, but before the other teams staff(Oregon), staff, players were able to leave the court.

Now technically if do that, its technically against the rules, and a technical foul.

Supposedly they made the rule to protect the other teams staff, from being stormed before they have chance to leave court. That's why players, fans have to wait until the refs recognize the end of game, in order to protect the other team, staff, etc.

Now even tho this is a technical rule, it either has NEVER BEEN ENFORCED, at the end of a game, NEVER CAUSED A TEAM TO LOSE THE GAME. IS ALMOST never enforced.

Also usually what happens is that instead of calling the technical, they usually dont call it, then issue a warning, reprimand, or some kind of punishment, either then, later, etc.

It was innappropiate for the Ref, to TAKE A WIN AWAY FROM WSU, AFTER THE GAME WAS OVER, because of some fans in the stands, and players, coaches on the bench.

They could have, and should have handled it the same way that it has been handled in past.

That wasnt the first time it happened. It has happened before. And other teams didnt have their similar WIN STRIPPED away.

So WSU won that game. And BONE, The AD, the WSU Pres, should have taken fines, penalties, and spoken out against the PAC Leadership, REFS. Should have PROTESTED to the PAC, and to the NCAA.

And the media, like ESPN, FOX, ETC, should have reported the game as a WIN for WSU.

I would have done all those things, if I had been WSU, AD, Pres, Coach, Media.

That game should FOREVER have a ASTERIX next to it, saying that WSU won that game, and why.

The DUMBASS REFS, PAC, PAC Leadership WRONGFULLY either messed up, cheated, STOLE that WIN from WSU.

WSU WON THAT GAME

PERIOD.

The clock never read 00:00 the BS technical foul was called with .3 seconds left and the free throws sent the game into a second overtime. I pulled a lot of hair out that day Makes it worse that Kent was part of it.
