Cougs ranked .......

They’ve consistently been at least a few spots below the AP this year as it relates to us.

The media made it would like we were a sure thing for the top 25. I didn’t think I saw alenough losses to get us in. Regardless, if we’re even close this week, we should be in after the bye week.

What’s even more funny is the fuskies lose to a very average Auburn team on a neutral field. Squeak by a terrible UCLA squad and move up to 7th.
GODOGS.

I personally don't think we are quite there to be ranked. We need to knock off an Oregon, Colorado, or Stanford team first. We should have beat USC, and doing so, we would be ranked right now.

Colorado's wins have come against a combined 3-19 opponents (or something close to that, point stands).

Exactly. My only top 25 interest is after the season. We haven’t been on that one since 2003.

I agree. I never understand the interest in being ranked outside of the last couple weeks of the season. Even then it's only relevant if you're in the running for the CFP

Being ranked is actually pretty huge. The vast majority of coverage/highlights on ESPN or other networks is focused on the top 25. It can help getting games on TV, or being moved to a better network. It sells tickets, it attracts recruits. It can serve as the tie-breaker when bowls are deciding between two teams.

The only reason why it's important to be ranked as often as possible is that you don't get much attention from the media if you don't have a number next to your name. When it comes to recruiting, we want to be talked about as much as possible. Leach has the cachet to help a lot on that, but still, we need all the love we can get. We can't worry about it, but we should celebrate it when it happens.

polls are subjective - they don't even agree with each other

this number is not:

5-1

Bingo and bingo, CO and Flat. Of course they are important. The fact that WSU is mentally buried at the bottom of every pollsters mind at the beginning of every year assures us that we don't show up in them without doing something fantastic. 5-1 is not good enough (yet) this year.

With the new early signing rules I think being in the polls, and being there ASAP is even more important. Gets us in their minds.
