Cougs vs Broncos

I don't get ESPNU, so not watching the game. Looks like the Cougars are taking care of business. ESPN currently has them a 99.7 chance of winning. Up 15 with less than 4 minutes certainly looks good.

Not exactly a work of art but pretty easy win over a solid team in Santa Clara.

If we finished against EWU, USC, SDSU, New Mexico State, Boise State, ASU and UO the way that we did tonight, Cougs would be 27-7 and in the big dance. It was definitely ugly at times, but I was glad to see us gradually build a lead instead of suffering through one of our patented 10 minute droughts.

Solid (ugly) win at home. Doubt we would have been competitive in many 12 vs 5 or 11 vs 6 match-ups on a neutral site in the NCAA bracket.

Pretty Dominating Defensive performance. 9,10,11 blocks. Solid, semi dominating rebounding. 7 3's by Tyrell Roberts. 7 rebounds by Tyrell Roberts. Efe with 13 points. Flowers with 5 ASSIST.

ESPNU announcers had one of the announcers who used to play College ball vs Domenique Wilkins, and played overseas, and NBA, compared EFE, Gueye, Dischon Jackson to Dominique Wilkins, and said they had NBA POTENTIAL, and said that Gueye is a NBA guy.

Roberts will deservedly get a ton of the offensive credit with his effort from 3, but Efe set the tone through the game with his presence defensively and on the boards. We still have a long way to go but at the same time we are a much better team than we were earlier in the year when we were dropping those games.

We still seem to "like" each other, so hopefully we can keep the core together.

Two of the three P12 schools advance, Oregon and WSU. Colorado is the lone loser.

Good start on the path to MSG. Does anybody have an opinion on who we might be better off playing next round? I’m thinking SMU is who we will play but really don’t know much about either team.

SMU is really good and many think they shoud've been in the NCAA tournament. If somehow Nicholls State can win that game, however, I think WSU would host the next round. Otherwise it's off to Dallas. Either way, Cougs can keep their season going by simply playing well. They'll need to shoot better in the next game but can beat anyone in the NIT by playing a complete game.

Glad Cougar

Echoing what Save Ferris said. Cougs are an improved team from the early season version. Maybe they had to go through those painful close losses to learn what it takes to win those types of games.

I don't know much about SMU either, but I just saw that they are 16-0 at home.

Jamie Dixon is a helluva coach.

That said, Kyle Smith is becoming a helluva coach. Noah with 19 minutes last night. Woodenesque in use of the coach's best friend.

But I already said that needed to happen two months ago. You're welcome, Coach Smith.

Did Jaki even play in the second half?
Seemed like a pretty short hook

Wrong school in Texas...he's at TCU.

Tim Jankovich is the coach at SMU. So there is some Coug history there.

Wow, Tim Jankovich brings back some interesting memories. I remember George Raveling using an interesting recruiting technique of having the WSU student body sign petitions asking for a specific player to commit. I think it was my senior year when I remember signing a petition asking for Jankovich to become a Cougar and another one asking for Darnell Valentine (who later played for the Blazers) to also come to Pullman. Both players prepped in Kansas. Jankovich committed, Valentine did not. I think he ended up at University of Kansas. But after just one year on the Palouse, Jankovich got homesick and transferred to K-State.

I also think Sam Jankovich was our AD at the time, but there's no relation.

Noah seemed to play his usual good defense, but boy, he was once again a huge liability on offense. I think Smith agreed with me that the double digit second half lead was in jeopardy with Williams out there as he made three straight bad plays (1 bad shot, 1 bad pass, 1 miss on the front end of a 1 and 1) on offense. I was screaming "Don't let him shoot!" because we had a couple of guys (Roberts & Jackson at the time) who were making their shots but Noah didn't seem to be looking for them. Anyway, Smith took Noah out and I watched closely as Noah walked off the court, past the bench, and started to take a few steps towards the tunnel. Don't know what that was about....maybe he just wanted to be by himself. He really seems to have lost nearly all of his ability to shoot the ball. Now down to 33% FG for the season, 26% from three, and 70% from the line.

More Bamba. Less Williams!

Maybe---but Bamba wasn't too good on offense last night either. Driving into the lane and either forcing up bad shots--several that didn't draw iron or getting trapped with no place to go. I thought Efe---Roberts and Rodman played well last night. Jackson was ok. Everyone else not so much. Flowers played reasonably well in the 2nd half but not in the Ist. Their top scorer had a bad night and Williams and Bamba were on him all night. We have a tendency to ignore how important it is to take the other teams best player out of the game.

If Bamba could finish at the rim and shoot off the dribble he could be very dangerous. Right now, he plays solid D and can hit an uncontested jumper.

The entire team needs to spend some time with a coach who can get them to finish.

Seems unnecessarily pessimistic to me. SDSU was certainly competitive against Providence and New Mexico St is currently up against UConn in the first half.
