86-84 Wow i said i would take a victory Wow but not that close. The cougs came from being down 18 at halftime. They ,obviously, were not ready to play. Perhaps a lesson learned and some team bonding

Impressed by the toughness the young team showed to recover from down 22. Franks was great. Daniels provided a nice spark. Flynn struggles. Milan look awful.
Seemed obvious that TX S. Was the better team but struggled with fatigue after short rest on a long trip

Side note did anyone notice that #20 of TX S. wasn’t wearing their team shorts...?

Milan will rebound., he is too good a player not to improve on opening night. This is only the second game for TS and they had a rest since playing Gonzaga Friday night The cougs had jitters but need to grow up fast. The cougs obviously were the better team. I am wondering about Pollard? The cougs need Pollard, Bernstine. and Cooper healthy and ready to play. You have to be a better team to come from 22 pts down. It looks like Chidom contributed It would have been a mini disaster to lose to TS in the first game.

I was impressed with Carter Skaggs? Guy is a baller and can shoot it. Acquaah has some potential and could be a force on drives given some time. If Bernstine brings anything to the table and Pollard heals we could possibly not be embarrassing ala in the 1st half.

So what exactly is wrong with Pollard. ?Information has been scarce so far. I checked Milan s high school stats .He shot 43 % from 3 pt land and 76% FTP. Opening day jitters and he will settle down and shots and free throws will fall for him

Pollard has a mild concussion.

Thanks there is a concussion protocol which coaches have to adhere to for the sake of the athletes.

Acquaah reminds me a little of Ike athletic but tried at times to do to much. Ike developed into respectable 3pt shooter but never really stopped the over penatrating. Hopefully Acquaah can do both. Childom has skill and I like his wingspan but lacks athletism but potentail is there. Skaggs was very good tonight hopefully he can do that consistently because he was scrappy and played with passion that WSU needs. Franks played a great second half and basically put the team on his back and carried them to the win. He definetly looks to be in better shape and moves with more purpose but he still lacks basketball IQ, but it is what it is. I thought Hinson would have played more and what’s up with Ergas? A walk on played and he didn’t.

Nobody could knock down a shot the first half. 1-13 on threes at one point and not much better on twos. Flynn had 19 points and 8 assists. Doesn't sound that bad except for poor shooting the first half

We won a game we had no business winning down by as much as 22. Franks can't hesitate for this team and Flynn's shooting will get better. Acquaah tries to do too much and his shooting mechanics were pretty awful but he got some to go. It was good to get Chidom extended time on the court. He has some skill but also tried to do too much.

We won coming from way back. They started to defend. We won.

Were you at the game avabob? I have not seen any individual and game stats. It is fairly common for young first year players to try and do too much. They should start to settle down around the fifth game. As for Ike. i watched clips of ball in Nigeria and other African Countries. They have some excellent athletes but coaching and team ball do not seem to be a big priority. There is a lack of coaching and programs which is now improving.Acquaah comes from a good high school program and plays within himself and under better control.

Not sure what your talking about, Ike was born in the US and went to high school in California and Oak Hill academy you don’t get any better high school coaching. To the best of my knowledge Ike never played in Africa till he played on the Nigerian National team after WSU.

Regarding coaching I can't believe how bad Acquaah's shooting mechanics are. Really ugly. Like Ike he might have the ability to get to the line but today he clanked all five of his free throws.

We need Flynn to get his shot back, maybe the two big threes he hit late will get him going. Love what I saw from Franks.

We actually out rebounded them despite missing our big guys. Skaggs had a nice 18 minutes with 9 pts and 7 rbs, they will probably have play zone with him though.

Ike did go to a prep school but he does not really play good team ball.I know where he played prep ball . I just wondered where he gets his approach to basketball. Acquaah s shooting technique actually makes his shot harder to block and allows him to shoot with a consistent motion. It is all in the wrist release and allows a good consistent follow through on his shots.. He shot 43 % 3 pts and 76% FTP in high school. People may criticize it but i think that he will will shoot a good percentage this year.Skaggs only hit 1 out of 4, 3 pt attempts and was 2-7 overall.. Chidom had 8 pts and 7 rebounds so he is showing promise also. The team shooting has to improve as the season moves on.

I don't understand with a year redshirting why they haven't remade his shooting mechanics. I don't care how long it takes it wouldn't have made him worse. Pretty much a Woolridge thing. Chidom had a bit of a windup as well but much more fluid when he doesn't rush a shot up.

I expect Acquaah to be a scorer more than a pure shooter. Like El said first game jitters can account for the poor shooting and also can account for shooting threes rather than driving and slashing which is more his type of game

Really liked Acquaah's explosiveness and control getting to the bucket. Hopefully the shooting improves because if it does he could really be productive. Franks was impressive in the second half but he picks up bad fouls and we obviously need to keep him on the floor.

Hoping Pollard and Bernstine can get back soon. It sounded like in the post game Bernstine could be back in the next week.

I didn't like Acquaahs stroke when I went to the exhibit game. However his numbers were decent in high school. You don't just coach a guy into good shooting mechanics. Look at Lonzo ball. My guess is Acquaah will shoot decent enough to to keep defenders a little honest. He is much more explosive than either Woolridge or ike were.

After watching the second half I'm actually a little more hopeful about this team. Really looking forward to getting both Pollard and Bernstine back - evidently both will probably miss the Seattle Univ game on Wednesday.

Need to see a few more games but certainly liked what Robert Franks did in the game. He looked great shooting the ball and he can put it on the floor. With some more help inside he should be able to stay out of foul trouble.

Seattle U. might be a bit of an upgrade as an opponent. I think Hayford is a real good coach. They have nine transfers on their roster including two grad transfers who start. The best is probably Jordan Hill from Wisconsin - averaged about 10 minutes a game for them as a reserve. They also have a 7-3 290 lb center from England who started last year for them.

Watched the 2nd half again last night as well and came away a bit more hopeful. The thing I liked the most is they started to play a lot tougher as the game went on and more together. We didn't get much out of Hinson or Cooper but at least they seemed to give effort. Carter Skaggs isn't going to provide much defense but still played with some toughness and energy plus can knock down 3s. Chidom isn't the best athlete but moved his feet well. Acquaah looks like a good on-ball defender in the making.

Flynn had an awful shooting night but showed up late like he did last year. Pollard and Bernstine are only going to imprve the energy and toughness on the floor. May not mean many wins but an injection of energy and toughness should help us stick around in games and compete.

My take was that Chidom looked a lot better. At the beginning of the game they were making a concerted effort to go to him. I think they wanted to calm him down. I don't care what's Acquaah shot in HS. His shot is terrible. I haven't looked at the stats but he missed several free throws and did not shoot well enough from outside to scare anyone. If he doesn't shoot better teams will stop his driving. Skaggs is a gamer. He should contribute off the bench. Cooper looked lost. Langston got in the dog house for something. Ernie ragged on him almost an entire TO and he never got back in the game. Don't know what the deal with Ergas is. Looks like Mickelson may be a redshirt. Ernie obviously likes Chidom. Gives him an awful lot of individual attention. He did the same thing with Franks. He also spent a lot of time with Acquaah. He spent a lot more time one-on-one with the players, especially the new players and more especially with Chidom and Acquaah.

Acquaah's mechanics were more soccer throw in than a shot. I am not sure why you think you can't coach a player to improve their mechanics. Ultimately the player has to put in the work but it's not something you just have to live with.

The potential is there for this to be a competitive team in the PAC . Chidom can put it on the floor and slash to the basket.Milan is a capable shooter and hopefully, both will continue to emerge. Bernstine and Pollard will give the cougs more fire and strength under the boards. The two jucos, will hopefully quickly adjust to D1 ball. There are a lot of if s, and more have to be positive for this team to be a good team. The game should" slow down" for them and they will play better.

Nobody us more if a purust when it comes to shooting than me. Guys like Woolridge and Redding drove me nuts. On the surface Acquaah looks just as bad. However he does get good rotation. At the end of the day the guys who shoot the worst have often been coached in to good mechanics but simply can't hit the broad side of a barn. Examples are Pollard and further back, Capers.

The rotation he gets is the same every time. The guys who shoot the way most people want need more space to get their shots off without fear of it being blocked or hurried.. It will be an interesting sideline to see what Milan's shooting percentage will be. I say at least 36% from 3 pt land and 74% FTP.

Bob I don't necessarily agree with you on his rotation. He has good rotation when he has time, like from the free throw line. But if he's hurried or guarded at all it looks like a knuckleball.

ElC, Milan will have to hit his next 15 FTs in a row to get to 75%. Not with that release. He'll be lucky to stay above 60% for the year. Guess who will be fouled at crunch time. Guess he could improve though.

It is a prediction and feel free, like you did,to speculate. Milan is going to play his game and he nor the staff could not care less what posters think of his shooting form. The increase to higher numbers will happen over a span of games.

He hit 11-16 against St Martins. Not great but not Jr Longrus level either. Like I said I didn't like his 3 point form either, but he did knock down a couple yesterday.

I agree his rotation isn't great when he is hurried. He needs to hit enough to keep defenses honest. Funny how quick people make conclusions. A couple guys were ready to call him our best player after the exhib game. I think he will be a good one.

He's definitely a talent. This is most posters first view of the new guys. Acquaah has a lot of pluses. Shooting as of game 1 was in the minus column.

I like the interest. I believe that the interest will grow now. There was not a huge turnout for the first game. Perhaps, the come from behind win will pique the students interest and support.?

With Bernstein, I see 4 PAC 12 caliber starters. Hinson could still become the 5th but even without him I am not as down on Daniels as a lot of guys. Undersized, but a tough kid and under rated shooter
