69-65 over Montana State in an underwhelming performance. The cougs showed flashes but committed 17 TO s to MSU s 3 Ike still does not understand team ball and i question how effective he will be this year.Flynn made youthful mistakes and he is still on a learning curve. i still wonder how he will react to pressure and of he can guard PAC 12 caliber PG s. King has improved his game and i hope he continues to get better.

Ike was terrible, flynn is a freshman but he will improve with each game. Hawkinson was barely involved most of the game on offense. way too many turnovers

Their performance while not good had some positives. King looked much better and had 22 pts . Flynn looks like a genuine PG and had 10pts,9 rbs and 5 assts. Hawkinson had another double double. The cougs out rebounded MSU 48-38. Pollard had 3 rbs in 10 minutes of action. However they better improve greatly in their next few games or it will be another long season

Flynn looks like a player. Agree with El, freshman errors and hard to know if he will get exposed against better competition. Too early to say he's the answer but an improvement. Broken record but really wish Acquaah was playing this year.

Hawkinson and Clifford need more touches. King looked improved for the most part. We didn't seem to want to take advantage of a big size difference.

Ike gives me a headache but he's always good in stretches then bad for much longer stretches.

Pollard and Franks need minutes. They did not look ready for better competition at this point.

No Langston (JC) yet.

I thought it was one of the best defensive efforts I have seen for awhile. We need more shooters.

I like Flynn a lot. He has a high basketball IQ and understands the game and he will continue to get better. He was a deadly outside shooter in HS and he still has to find his shot in college ball. It will come as the game slows down as he gains experience Kent likes Ike and he will certainly get his minutes. If basketball was a three on three game,Ike would be terrific. He is a stud athlete who just does not understand a team concept. He can be very good and very bad for longer stretches of a game.

Utah State beat a decent Cal Irvine team 72-56 last night. Kent in his press conference alluded to beating the Utags in a scrimmage. game earlier this week, We will see if Kent s optimism is founded in reality or is just hype. i still think that the cougs will be a decent team. I believe that most posters see a two win PAC 12 season.

Does anyone know what the deal is with Langston. He got plenty of minutes in Italy and was suited up last night. Only 9 scholarship players with 3 red shirts and no Langston.

Kent said something about 4 redshirts this year in his post game conference. It was the first time that he had said that.

I watched part of the Oregon game and some UCLA highlights last night. We aren't even close to either team in athleticism, Ike notwithstanding.

The top twenty elite team s talent level are far above most teams. The cougs can be a good team capable of winning 12-15 games. Their game against Creighton on November 18 will go a long way in determining what type of season is in store. It will be on a neutral floor in the Paradise Jam Tournament.Creighton is ranked 22 by some services. Their talent is not overwhelming. I saw video tapes of their first game. However they are a well coached team , move the ball well and play together as a team.It will be an interesting game to watch. I feel that the cougs can hang with them if the play team ball with intensity.

Unless it's due to injury that one surprises me. Redshirting 3 in a class is almost unheard of but 4 with one a JC guard?

Four red shirts makes no sense because Langston has already used his red shirt. Maybe Kent was talking about the walk-on JC guard.

I haven't heard of a walk-on redshirting before either. Maybe he just misspoke on 4. He was clear on Acquaah, Ergas, and Chidom being the 3 to redshirt.

Langston might have had 3 to play 2, I dont know, but it would be very odd to red shirt a JC except for injury

For what its worth here are my thoughts on this game.

First I would have liked to have seen a larger margin of victory but it really isn't that big a deal. WSU has a lot of new faces and a lot of old faces being asked to play different roles. To that end I'm sure coach was playing players and rotations that we will see less and less of as the season progresses.

Freshmen- I was impressed with Flynn as far as his feel for the game and his style of play. He is however going to have some freshman moments over the season and the PAC 12 season could be ruff on him. I think he is going to be solid for years to come but probably could have used a season as a back up. Pollard seems to be a little more of a project than I had hoped. He is a big kid and has solid rebounding fundamentals. Watching him in pre-game and during the game, his offense is not where I had hoped it would be. Both will be playing roles they are not quite ready for, which is good for their development but could be bad for the team.

Sophomores- Franks just really doesn't impress me. One rebound in 16 minutes against a team picked to finish 6th in the big sky. He really needs to step up his game and show he belongs at this level. Daniels is a similar player and will play a similar role as Boese. He is a spot up shooter who can be a serviceable player as long as his shots are falling if they don't fall as they didn't in this game he will move further down the bench again much like Boese when his shot quit falling.

Juniors- King has improved his game and played with a lot of confidence. Its always good to see a player put in the work and get better and I'm sure he is still looking for his role on this team. He plays a tad out of control and doesn't have a real good feel for the game but that can come with increased minutes. I my opinion if we are planning on relying on King to provide offensive punch on a regular basis we're in trouble, but the fact that he can put up 20 on a given night is a positive.

Seniors- Josh is Josh.... he needs to touch the ball almost every time we run a half-court set. Ike is Ike ( thats not always good) he still plays out of control still tries to do things he is not capable of doing. He will have his games that he looks amazing and he'll have "times" when he hurts you. Callison looked like a player trying to play his way out of the dog house or trying to make the team not a returning starter. We need him to step up. Connor needs more touches in the half court offense but still doesn't move all that well.

As far as the red shirts Its a shame about Acquaah I think he could have helped, but if the others are that far behind the guys playing.........what does it say about the future? I predict this team wins less than 5 PAC 12 games. I really don't see anybody in the PAC 12 we are better than. Kent will need to earn his money to get many wins.

Dont totally disagree with your analysis although I think King will probably be our number 2 scorer. At 6-6 with quickness ball handling skills and a nice stroke he could have a break out year. People forget he was little more than a frosh last year due to an injury that limited him to less than half a jc season. Pollard cant shoot a lick outside of point blank range but he runs the floor and is very long plus a smart kid.

5 conference wins could be the max but I wouldnt bet one way or the other

jourdand is pretty spot on.

Losing Hawkinson and Clifford after this year would keep me up at night if I was Kent. They still have a couple spots to give and need to add transfers that are ready to play or high school player in the mold of Flynn (and hopefully Acquaah).

Pollard has a nice middle range jump shot which he displayed at prep school He will improve from game to game as his confidence grows

Not sure about Pollards mid range jumper. Nice rotation and mechanics but no touch

Best chance for Pollard is if he can develop a 8-10 foot bank shot. I watched him in warmups and he has no touch. The bank shot free throw wasnt as ugly as the second one that banged off the pin. I still like the kid but he is basically a longer, quicker
Longrus

At 6'9" he has a couple of inches on Longrus but sounds like a valid comparison point. I still say jump hook but whatever works.

We have a lot of projects dotting the roster.

On the other Board,Kent calls him their best defensive big man.I said that and rebounding would be his strong suit. I think ,as i said in preseason, that fans will like him for his hustle and unselfish team play.I still think that his mid range jump shot will serve him well as the season progresses.

I am watching number 22 Creighton beating number 9 Wisconsin . They look pretty tough with big physical guards and a big center. i am curious as to how the cougs match up with them

Looks like Creighton will beat number 9 ranked Wisconsin. Their PG 5 '10 Watson is a quality D1 PG. He will give Flynn all he wants both offensively and defensively.. The cougs will have all they can handle with Creighton
