Could it be NRK

It won't be him, no idea who it is though.

Someone we've never heard of without a single other P5 offer seems to be the trend.

There was a DE from Mississippi I believe, who had a virtual visit yesterday.

Young, Ward, Dieu and Peters all have P5. Going to be mixture or under the radar kids, which is the trend from Wazzu. Hopefully Richardson, Cooper, Logo, Dickert and Allen bring back the days of Manning, Big Joe, Mastro, and Wilson with recruiting. Covid did Wazzu no favors.

Half the known commits don't have another power 5 offer. Not a big deal for Hawaii, but we are a P5 school.

Here's a list of P5 offers our commits have:
Ward- Oregon St.
Dieu- ASU, Oregon
Peters- ASU, Kansas, VA Tech
Ward- Maryland, Georgia Tech

Maybe Rolo and Co. have the magic eye for talent, but what can't be argued is these offer sheets look more like the Wulff era than what we were accustomed to during the Leach years.

Leach’s recruiting dropped way off the last few years. Wazzu has always been a recruit and develop school. Leach was always 10th-12th in terms of class rankings. Rolovich success will be determined if him and his staff can develop.

Travion Brown had more P5 offers (11) than the 8 recruits Rolo has currently committed. We held off USC and Ohio St for Jayden De Laura.
Even Leach's poor classes were better than this.

And that class was ranked 66th and 12th in the conference.

The discussion isn't recruiting ratings, it's P5 offers. Recruiting ratings don't mean much when those doing the ratings don't see all the kids play on a regular basis.

Brown is one player. You’re cherry picking one player. Leach wasn’t signing classes full of Brown’s. He was signing classes similar to what Rolovich is getting. Like I said, Rolovich’s success will depend on if he can develop. That is how Price won and that is how Leach won. Who knows maybe Edson will be the next Logan Wilson who’s only other offer was Weber State. It’s too early to judge anything right now.

When it comes to recruiting, it's hard to say "I told you so" before any player steps on campus. Let's give the coaches a chance to complete the class and the opportunity to coach them up.

Glad Cougar

IMO, looking at offers from other power 5 schools is the best indicator we have about how coaches evaluate talent. Obviously there has been a dip in that regard. But it’s still early in the recruiting process and the pandemic is having some kind of affect on everything in life right now. I will not be surprised if recruiting is different from here on out, since we gotta new coach and all.

Well we are in trouble then. Cause the "Pac 12" offer guys gave up 60 plus points to a struggling UCLA team. Gave up 30 plus to a struggling ASU team. And if people are totally honest 13 was probably their best class, and recruiting has not been at that level since. And you would hope recruiting with time and success the trend would have been for recruiting to improve, with the possible down turn with one class.

That ASU team you mock beat Oregon's squad of 4 star players.

Our defense last year was a mess largely because of the number of players we were giving reps too without P5 offers. Daniel Isom, Jahad Woods, George Hicks, Shahman Moore, Skyler Thomas, Willie Taylor, Chad Davis, Pat Nunn, Justus Rogers, Armani Marsh, Dillon Sherman, Karson Block, Hank Pladson, Misi Pei, Christian Meija, Cosmas Kwete and Dallas Hobbes all lacked another P5 offer out of HS.

A few things:
1) Not every player on this list is bad, but the sum of the parts defensively is consistent with a unit with roughly half of the players being rotated in not being considered worth of this level out of HS.
2) A decent amount of our better defensive recruits over the past several seasons haven't panned out like we'd hoped and we've been stuck patching holes with walk ons. Armani Marsh isn't starting games for us if Jalen Thompson comes back. Josh Talbot drew praise in practice before getting kicked for being a knucklehead. Zaire Webb was contributing before he got sticky fingers. DeAngelo McKenzie was a bust. Kendrick Catis sticking around would have given us a more viable option at LB than Rogers, Sherman, or Pladsen. This isn't exhaustive but, yeah, things haven't exactly gone our way.
3) I know there are folks excited to counter with a list of Cougs who have become monsters despite not having much in the way of D1 offers. Late bloomers are always a possibility, you just don't want to build a roster relying on them.

I mocked ASU? They were struggling offensively. They put up 30 against Kent State, 19 against sac State, 10 against Mich State, 31 against CU, 24 against cal, and then 38 against us. The point is they were struggling offensively out of the gate and got well against us.

Second, if it is about D1 offers, how the heck is our defense getting better if that was the problem, lack of D 1 offers. Maybe they either offered the wrong guy, or didn't effectively recruit.

Leach never had to deal with Covid-19 and the travel restrictions..... When WSU can get a kid on campus and have them see our facilities and experience Pullman and the whole college town effect.... kids see that they have a legit option at WSU. We haven't had that this Spring.....so ease up.

Brand X shows Adrian Shepherd crystal balled to us. Wonder when this becomes official. Amazing recruiting win for Rolo here. It's not every day we beat powerhouses like Louisiana, Northern Arizona, and Notre Dame College (D2 school) for recruits.

Hmmmmm 5-10” safety

Hmmmmm 5-10” safety

I watch his highlight real and a few things jump out at me.

Takes excellent angles.
Quick reactions.
No wasted movement.
Gets his body into the tackle. Fundamentally sound.
Weaknesses:
Below average speed.
Small.
Doesn't appear to have a high ceiling.

Ok. It's been officially announced Adrian Shepherd is the latest commit. This was who I was told after the bat signal went up.

The good news is Smith seems to be making basketball relevant in record time. It’s not unthinkable we are in the mix in another year.

But Hey, D2 recruits are better then 3 STAR, Div 1 FBS, Mountain West, Mid Major, low to mid level, semi P5/Semi PAC 12 recruits like 3 star WA, WR, Shumpert. So Rolo, is REJECTING a 3 star WR recruit, that can either play WR, RB, Outside LB, Safety, etc, to recruit a Div 2 recruit away from Notre Dame Div 2 college, and BLOWING IT, not getting 1, 3 star WR, and 2, 4 star, WR's.

This class is scary low end talent wise right now. This is how Wulff recruited and it killed the program. I really hope we are saving the best for last, but the trend is pretty rough.

1 difference though, is Wulf was not only a bad recruiter, but he didn't hire good assistant coaches. Was arrogant. And lost a couple, few, some, somewhere between good to almost really good Doba recruits, players, and lost the entire locker room, players, team.

Wulf should have been able to win at least 2,
3,4,5 wins a game instead of 0,1,2 wins a season, and 17 wins over his tenure, instead of 9 and 40.

In this Rolo is different then Wulf. While Rolo is currently recruiting nearly as bad as Wulf, I seriously doubt that Rolo would only win 0,1,2 wins a season, 9-40, 69-0 losses to USC, etc, and would instead probably win 3,4,5 games a season, have close games, and be a lot more like 6-6 Doba, instead of like Paul Wulf.

Also UNLIKE Wulf, maybe Rolo has a magic eye for under the radar, diamond in the rough talent. At least 1 can hope.

Also if, since Rolo was successful at Hawaii, he can be successful at WSU, and some pretty credible people have vouched for Rolo.

But SO FAR, recruiting wise, Rolo SEEMS to be BLOWING IT, recruiting wise.

He needs to get his team on the field and win some games. Kids with options aren't coming unless they can see what he is doing.

He has no P5 brand name. No one knows who he is.

Agree with this.
He needs a chance to prove himself with what he has and then he'll win over a few more players.
This could be a tough year however breaking in a new QB and coming off of a weak defensive team.
Still, it would not surprise me if the team ends up bowling.

To be fair.... the “low end kids” we’ve got so far to me actually look pretty decent. And there is a clear trend of going after very smart guys. The safety we just picked up was flirting with Yale. I like the kid from Yakima, Mount Si and now this kid. He actually tackles and closes fast. He probably makes more tackles on our team this year than a lot of our secondary. Can only wait and see but I am not slamming the panic button yet. Keep in mind Banker and Dickert are choosing these guys

Kinda seems like this is why our Juco offers are trending up. Get some 1/2 and dones before you can get what you really want.
