I said it in another thread that I feel like weve beaten ourselves more than Oregon has beat us when weve lost to them, and that was the case again last night.

The pick six... Id love to see a stat of win percentage of teams with a pick six; im guessing it'd be pretty low.

Not that Biggs needs any more ammo, but Max had 8 carries. Eight. Ocho. Simply not acceptable, especially when hes running at nearly 7 yards per clip.

The defense is young and getting better. Asking them to come up big at the end of that game was a tall order. Too tall.

Thanks to espns video package only showing duck scoring highlights, i got to rewatch the 80 yd td run several times from several angles, and it was just ugly. Every coug player took themselves out of the play; oregon hardly had to block with wsu players literally falling over themselves and literally running away from the ball carrier. Again, just ugly.

Last nights team should win 3 more games, lose to the mutts, and with their bowl game against whatever basement dweller our bowl agreement has us playing.

Borghi had eight catches. Over 100 yards from scrimmage. If anyone wants to get bent out of shape about the offense, it should be the lack of production from the X position.

Not that it needs to be said, but second half TOP was 10:38 to 19:22. It was surprising we were still in it with a lead.

I think the lack of production from X can largely be expanded by formations. We have been running more 3 by 1 this year then I have ever seen from Leach. He had been leaving X alone leading to the position getting attention from 2 sometimes 3 defenders. This is the same reason we have seen so much production from y and z. Take what the defense gives ya.

I think it’s odd that our LB coach got elevated to DC when his unit has gone from iffy to bad. Early in the season it was Rodgers who looked way out of sync, now he’s actually making some tackles here and there but Jahad Woods seems like he’s lost all ability to fill a gap and tackle. He single handedly missed like 4 tackles on Herbert that should have been sure things-sacks-drive enders. It’s so damn frustrating to watch these guys outplay themselves.

A big problem was our failure to use Borghi in the second half, especially in the 4th. He was getting good yards and the Oregon D had no answer. So we stopped giving it to him. Giving him 3 carries in the last 5 minutes runs the final minute off the clock, and UO has no time for their final drive. Giving it to him on first down after Martin’s long catch - instead of the swing to Harris that went OB - runs 20 seconds and still leaves us with 2nd down in the red zone.

I’m going to say this again, in reference to the production from X. It’s on Gordon, because he doesn’t use the left side of the field. If someone did a distribution chart on his throws, I’m convinced I would show a serious lack of distribution, and a bigger discrepancy on longer throws. If you line up to his left, and the play isn’t a tunnel screen, the only way you’re getting the ball is if your route takes you right of midfield.

Bellantoni has quite a few years of experience as a DC. He was the obvious choice.

Will Rodgers played better, I think Brown would be a better tackler than Justus or Jihad-he must just not have learned the defense yet ? no idea, but he should be playing.

Looked like Brown was getting a lot of playing time last night until the unfortunate targeting call that resulted in his ejection. I don't know how many times I yelled at the screen after a missed tackle by Woods or him being out of position.

Ah, the days of Ronnie Childs, Anthony McClanahan, and Mark Fields.

Glad Cougar

If a guy is 12 inches off the ground, how else are you supposed to stop his forward progress ? it was a bull$hit call, one of several that helped Oregon.

Chris Hayes, Raonall Smith, Derting, Gleason, Travis Long, etc. Those of us old enough to have watched decent Coug LBs are really suffering through some piss poor LB play.

One thing I believe is that Borghi has just reached another level in his play.
Oregon has a good defense and it was possible that Max could have been stopped in his tracks but he was very effective whether by run or catch. Not unusual for a 2nd year guy to take a big step in his level of play and while it may have happened earlier I really noticed it last night.
Expect big games from him the rest of the way no matter who they play.

One guy or the first guy cant stop borghi and he is a threat to break off a big gain every time
He reminds me a bit of tim dwight who played for iowa and the chargers

Just unreal acceleration and balance

I am excited for Browns potential. Really good athlete. I made a point to watch him closely when he got the last two possessions of the CU game. He looked really lost. This was confirmed when I watched it on DVR. Just sort of stood flat footed till an OL had him sealed. We seem to play him more on third and long when he speed really helps.

I do wish we would have RS him as he is not there mentally yet.

Keep your head up, that's how. I'm fairly certain the fact that he lowered his head and hit helmet-to-helmet with the crown is what got him.

Exactly--you don't tackle with your head. Come in with the shoulder, not dive in headfirst.

Yet according to some he’s “low rent.”

Wide ranging thread...

When you have one of the honors RB's in the league you are dumb if you don't get him some more runs. Whether that is on the QB or the HC doesn't really matter; it is a team failure to utilize weapons that is pretty head scratching.

History is full of years when the best player on a Coug D, or the best unit, was at LB. I have to say that they are our weakest unit this year. That has to be fixed. Most teams would suffer in that situation.

As for helmet to helmet...you just have to be smart enough to pull your head and lead with your shoulder or chest. That won't solve the issue 100% of the time, but it is probably going to work 98-99% of the time. However, if you are working solely on adrenaline and not very self-disciplined, you are going to get DQ'd and hurt your team.
