Defense just looks so slow and small...

Just basic football skills—that third and long where Huntley was about to be sacked but dumps it off...watch Stone come in an just run into the runner and bounce off him and fall to the ground. Simple form tackle and they force a fg attempt. Simple, basic skills.

You're seeing the result of poor D-Line recruiting over the last 5 years.

SPEED D! (or whatever excuse you want to use).
Joe S may not have been the best technique instructor, but he provided us some quality talent.
Off top of my head, Destiny (NFL), Ekulake (NFL), Luvu (NFL), Tago (in NFL camps), Robert Barber (solid PAC12 player). I’m sure I’m missing others, but to the posters point, the DL is lacking @ the moment.

Hercules

They can't get off the ball with the velocity necessary to cause problems. They can't get off blocks. They don't make tackles. They don't pressure or sack the QB. All they do is get in gaps and be blocked. They are just guys. There is no all conference player on the DL.

If they're reading this and don't like it, prove me wrong. Make me believe that kids won't show up next fall and take your playing time because you were outrecruited.

Oops, a big miss on my part and another NFL’er.
Although I do not believe Xavier Cooper (Tacoma) was a Joe recruit, add him to the line-up of stalwart DL who made an NFL club.
In assessing the defense, we simply had more talent than what we’re seeing at the present.

Biggs I don’t think there’s a PAC 12 player on the D Line let alone all conference. How did we get here so quickly after a a couple of pretty good defensive teams?

Could be the scheme. They've gone with a scheme that allows them, IMO, access to more DL. Gone are the days of Doba DL where it's 2 huge human beings in the middle and 2 speedsters off the edge.

They're going after kids that are 6'2" to 6'4" 230-245 and growing them. Speed off the ball, make the OL turn and chase, penetrate and make plays. The problem is they aren't fast off the ball, they're not getting off blocks and they aren't making plays. This is a DNA game at the P5 level. If you're gonna go with shorter kids that don't have beef, power or levers... you gotta have velocity and play makers. If you can't leave smoke off your heels at 6'3" 255.. The OL at 6'5" 320 is gonna swallow you whole. You are nowhere. You will look exactly like they look. Big Sky kids playing on a P5 field.

The LBs behind them are nowhere to be found. The DBs are running in circles confused.

It is a Chinese fire drill on defense right now.

Well coached.
Fit and strong.
All day tough.
Ultimate effort.

Where was it?

Missing on a lot of guys and a lot of attrition on the defensive side of the ball. The JC guys are not what we need them to be.

Give me a CJ Mizell that’s pissed and wants to suplex every guy he tackles right about now—maybe it’d rub off on these guys and light a fire under their asses. I was hoping Jahad would take the next step and become that guy, but he has shown virtually zero improvement from his freshman year—he’s the most experienced guy out there now but you’d never know.

Two years ago during the WSU SCB fiasco, some folks predicted future ripple effects.

Rogers got 15 yards for it last night.
