What an unbelievably strong person . He announced he has pancreatic cancer and has gone to his liver. He was to coach rb for plu. He has freshman rb at plu with a familiar last name of Swinton .

Derek is upbeat and he started an Allstate game for hs seniors cleats for kids to raise money for kids with cancer which his daughter had and has since been cancer free . He is incredibly positive ….

I was friends with Derek in school. He along with Eboni Wilson were the nicest players...scratch that...people I met in Pullman.

I ran into him at the Mexican joint in Pacific Place the day before the Ok State game in 2010.

That is just too bad. He is a great guy.

Cancer is a MF. My nephew who lost his leg to Bone Cancer 5 years ago as a freshman in high school. He went in for scans last month we were hoping to hear the word "remission" unfortunately cancer is back and he is undergoing heavy chemo for the next month and will be on chemo for the next 2.5 years. He is a warrior. His dad (my brother) is a West Point grad who did multiple tours in Iraq and has instilled the "will to win" in his son. Showing up is half the battle when fighting cancer. Praying for D.Sparks and his family.

Just think of the possibilities if our elected leaders spent the trillions of $$ they lavish on their friends, constituents, and various ideological horseshit on cures for cancer and ALS. I attended to my father (along with my RN mom) as he died of esophageal cancer. It's just horrid and a crime we haven't been able to stop this scourge.

Read Derek's book and have always had a soft spot for him.
