He tweeted he looks forward to sharing his vision for WSU Football on Thursday after accepting the job. Can’t find any info outside of that when it might be occurring? Anyone seen anything?

I think he hit the road recruiting, as time is of the essence. Priority # 1 is recruits. This was the compromise, defer the presser over recruits. Plus Pullman Tailors needed some lead-time. Looks like it's Thursday at 4pm.

Look at Kalen DeBoer. What a dissadvantage. Had to fly up with his family, do the rah, rah, rah...which sacrifices hitting the ground running. Are you there Biggs?

You either have relationships with recruits in place or you are fuc$ed. The end.

That's pretty true, but he's out there trying to make the most out of a bad situation and salvage what he can. Given the coaching merry-go-round around the PAC (and nation in general) there are a lot of players opening their recruiting back up at this late stage in the ball game, so hopefully the Cougs can take advantage of that.

Personally, I like that his priority is recruiting over his press conference. I like the message that sends.

And realistically, if there is an assistant somewhere that he is close to signing, this gives him a day or two so that maybe that guy might be announced along with the rest of the guys that he has chosen to keep...

I trust Dickert to do the best he can and put in an honest days work.

I dont think he is gonna run into Riley. Other schools are struggling in recruiting too. There should be some opportunity out there.

He has to find kids that if given another year of high school football would be another star higher, so to say. The 3 star kids that would be 4 stars… He has to get a full class of guys this year and fill in any holes from last years class. That means he needs 3 OL cause last year they fuc$es that up badly by only taking 2 kids.

You mean like in-state soon-to-be 3 year starter, Pac 12 Defensive Player of the Week Armani Marsh?

I was encouraged when I learned that Dickert hit the recruiting trail immediately after accepting the permanent position. His youth and inexperience is going to be used against him, but one area where he can reverse the advantage is with his energy and effort. Get face to face with as many High School coaches, players, and their parents as you can. Whittingham, Chip Kelly, David Shaw, and Herm Edwards have a name advantage, but they're making phone calls and you're showing up. Get after it.

I see he was in Bellingham this week, probably trying to secure the the two kids from Squalicum High in Bellingham, the one who will be a DB, Smithson, who just signed a week or two ago. and the other RB Schlenbaker, who signed this summer are both pretty fast. Smithson has run a 10.87 100 meters he's 6'2" 190, not a lot of big offers, but that speed as a safety with the right coaching would suggest this kid might be under rated. Schlenbaker has several power 5 offers, 11.12 100 meters, and is a shifty back at 6'1" 205. They have these comparison charts that suggests 40 times based upon 100 meter times, which are suspect I would agree, but it would put these two at 4.4 and 4.5 range. Keep in mind Borghi, who was one of the fastest players on the team had a PR of 10.80 in the 10 meters, so these Bellingham boys are fast. You can teach a kid a lot of things, but improving on speed is not easy, especially when you are trying to get them to add on weight.

I think Doba or Price said something like about how they can coach them to be a football player, they can't coach speed.

I read an independent article on high school football where they brought up a good point. Due to COVID, a lot kids haven't been evaluated like they typically would have been, and as such, the recruiting "ratings" for the late bloomers and kids from more rural areas aren't reliable.

I know nothing about the Smithson kid, but his athletic numbers and speed times are very good. I have zero problem with trusting the coaches judgement on someone like him, especially in this years class.

This is a personal relationship business. My point from above is that he's hit the ground running, immediately after learning, ("hey Jed you're a Millionaire, so he loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly").

The notion that "You either have relationships with recruits in place or you are fuc$ed", I disagree. You have to step up to the plate and Swing the Bat, in order to get a home run. Never pre-judge anything. You never know. The universe can and will drop something into his lap, (a gold mine), on any given day.

Second, look at DeBoer. Have no idea if he's hit the recruiting trail after bringing up his family for the presser, but they could be looking at homes, while our guy Dickert is looking for recruits.

Love it.

When do you think these relationships started?

Dickerts been here two years. He should have made relationships already in this area as the leader of the defense. Not to mention the director of recruiting should have been in contact with programs and kids regardless of who is the coach. There should be groundwork already in a lot of cases.

Sure. And how long did those kids swing in the wind with the WSU staff being up in the air? It isnt just WSU that calls. Other staffs are on kids too. The turmoil hurt. The director of recruiting is a nobody. He doesnt matter. Coaches on the field matter. The groundwork is poor at best. Don’t tell yourself a bs story to justify why it’ll be awesome. It won’t likely be awesome.

I don’t believe it’s going to be awesome. I think it’s going to be pretty iffy. Just saying this isn’t a new staff showing up completely, especially on Dickerts side. But I agree with you this class is likely gonna be more about bodies than it will about talent unfortunately. It’s unfortunate how Richardson had to go given he was well liked and connected to LA. Hope Dickert can make some inroads fast. But I expect to be underwhelmed as well.

Well in the end, recruiting is still a sales job, staff changes are always an issue, and the staff isn't complete, and a you might be short on relationships. However, you can sell a lot of other things, the head coach was/is the DC of a defense that was in the top 5 in the nation in takeaways, you have a DB going to the Senior Bowl, and the WSU program is going to it's 6th bowl in a row, 7th in the past 8 years. Plus you have an exciting offense with what is arguably the best QB in the conference, led the league in pass and TDs, have the number 1 and 3 receivers in the conference. And Dickert has to sell himself, no he's not Leach, or a Peterson, he has no magic tricks, but he does come across as a sincere guy with goals and a mission. I am not expecting a top 50 class this year, but we need some quality guys that can be developed, have to hope this staff has an eye for that talent. Hopefully they have 4 or 5 guys working CA.

This is the type of the season where our staff should comb through the commitment lists of every Mountain West and the higher level Big Sky teams to see if there are any kids who fill a need. We can't be too proud this year. Every Mountain West program has 10 kids in every class who are P12 material. Time to flex.

JDL is not the best qb in the league. He would be 3rd string at SC.

We do not have the #1 WR in the league either. That kid is at SC too.

They need kids that can develop. They need the entire staff in SoCal. Why go anywhere else? That is where the talent is.

A bigger flex would be to take their All Conference starters as transfers….

Dickert said he'd recruit the crap out of the State of Washington - that it all starts here.

Both these kids are pac 12 athletes no question.

Biggs you’re getting technical here, this is a sales job, JDL had the most passing yards and TDs, so we are going to call him the best QB, Jackson had the most receiving yards, the fact that London The best receiver in the league was out injured the last half of the year we will choose to ignore.

Ok. They’re the best.
