Totally agree. Like I've said...."as setback is a setup". A setback sets up for something better". We want to be happy with setbacks. Be happy! In the end.....Dickert seems more of an ideal solution, (almost perfect) than what Rolo could or would do.

It's quite possible to be supportive and hopeful for Dickert and still be opposed to how Rolo was dismissed.
I support him 110% and like I said the videos floating of him speaking to the players speaks volumes. He’s young, energetic and a motivator.
Hey listen, I was not a fan of firing Rolo over the vaccine issue. I'm anti-mandate. Don't think any of that was right. But.....I agree and am very impressed with Coach Dickert. Love his energy and think that he appears to have an incredible work ethic and is focused on succeeding / reaching his goals. I don't think we've had a coach as hungry as he is, ever. I say we give him the job and see what he can do.
Hey listen. I was a fan of firing Rolo. He chose self over team and would have put everyone and Coug games at risk. Science is real and we all share responsibility for the whole community with Covid-19, since that persons failure to take it seriously can end the lives of those around you.
If his objection is related to religious reservations, I don't think it fair to characterize it that "[h]e chose self over team." He chose a principle over worldly concerns.

The objections became his objection when he realized they were serious. History has to be on his side. He is vaccinated from other diseases, so are his kids. When he spoke to various people it was never about a fetus from the 1970's.
Do you believe if he had cancer he would not take those drugs to save him because of religious reasons. My neighbor use to head a department at Fred Hutch. He said he couldn't believe one of his employee underneath of him is fighting the mandate because of religious reasons. He said Ed, he deals with cells from 1970 fetus' every day in his research. Just shaking my head.....

And yes. I know one person who has refused vaccinations (for her children). I don't know if he would refuse treatment for religious reasons. I think that same person I mentioned would. And I could imagine anyone of similar conviction would.

I just don't buy this "religious reasons" standard as a legitimate reason solely because it is classified as distinct from a political or philosophical viewpoint.
Religion (to me) should not have this special place reserved for it that is beyond scrutiny in relation to any other belief system (politics or philosophy). If Rolo had a political objection based on government-overreach (which ismprobably more likely) then either that gets a special privilege for exception or it does not. The state (inslee) said it does not. Why is a sincerely held religious belief different? Taihtsat

Philosophy is within religious belief, so, therefore religious excemptions should have also been ruled out. That would leave only medical which likely would be more objectively supported. Taihtsat
And one more note. How do you know if his children are vaccinated? And even so, how do you know it was done with vaccines based on fetal tissue? Further, how do you know that any religious objection did not come after his had his children vaccinated? Perhaps he, like many of us, didn't even know about it until it such actions were already done?

Finally, with respect to your neighbor. He shakes his head because he apparently doesn't value unborn life as much as many. He may deal with those cells, but how often does he sit and think "Gee, that was a live human being with which we have been experimenting without their consent?" Imagine if you woke up one morning and found out your kidney was removed without your consent so someone do do medical experiments. Or if you were a child and your parents took you into a hospital to have your retinas removed so they could be donated to some lab for scientific experimentation? If those two seem egregious to you, ask yourself why it is any different for an unborn human being.
I think religion/theology are subsets of philosophy. Just a science is a subset of philosophy. Science presumes many philosophical tenents, such as the senses are reliable, we can have knowledge about the world, that the universe operates consistently, that time exists, etc.

The fact that someone is claiming a religious exemption that works at Fred Hutch and deals with the fetal cells you are speaking about explains why he shook his head. If his underling had such a problem with the religious aspect of using fetal tissue he shouldn't be working at a research lab in which that is what they deal with on a daily basis.
I can ask you the same question. If one of your two sons came down with a treatable form of cancer, would you really deny them the medical advancement discovered from a tissue that could have come from a miscarriage that helped develop the understanding of a cancer drug.
Show me one spec of information other than Rolo saying he has a religious objection. Not what he communicated to Chun or Schulz, not what he said publicly, not what he said to his college coach. Another either/or. That’s like saying a Catholic in the times of Cromwell should be happy. After all, they have God. One can be BOTH a committed religious person AND expect to be treated fairly.
What I would do—and have done—is accept Church teaching that in the absence of a morally unreprochable option, it is morally licit to use such treatments. However, one is not obliged to accept such and it is not a moral failure to refuse them.

He was treated fairly . He was given an option and he couldn’t morally do it apparently . I know a firefighter who was a person of conviction. Walked away. Didn’t like the mandate but stood up for what he believed .

Well then… if that’s how those things are defined then it is certainly no stretch to declare that sperm are “unborn half human beings” and that certain individuals are committing genocide on an unprecedented scale any time they procreate in the bathroom sink. Those who take the point seriously recognize that one is either human or not. We are more than just a clump of cells--in the womb or not. Cut off your hand, does that make you any less a human being? Does that make your hand a different human being? Why should we consider anything else that comes from our body, by itself, a human being?
But your objection is not a new one. These have all been stated before and they are either glibly stated or lack sufficient study and information. I suspect yours is the former.

I’m not your therapist, just believe in perspective. Nothing any of us can control, but I’d assume we all want the best for the School and the program since we’re here. I’m personally as pumped about Dickert right now as I was about the Leach hire and it has nothing to do with Rolo. I think Dickert has the IT factor and would be a home run hire.

After 50+ years of Cougar athletics, one became jaded at the next big thing and expending too much emotional energy on getting 'pumped' about any one person. Some work out, some don't. Some stay, some don't. There's always another in the wings.
And one game in there's no reason at this time to be critical or adversarial toward Dickert. He may be Lou Gehrig to Rolo's Wally Pipp. He may not.

You must be relatively new to the internet. There’s not a single unmoderated forum of discussion, even going back to the FidoNet, Usenet and mailing list days, that hasn’t had significant tangents into politics. At least in the last 30+ years I’ve been “online.”
And I am sympathetic to your point. But I’m not so puritanical as you. It is what it is. Accept it and move on or be consumed in your frustration.
