Did Dickert just match Leach in AC wins?
Does this qualify as another WSU Apple Cup win provided by Jim Walden and his coaching tree?
Record margin of victory for WSU in the Apple Cup was not possible without Bob Gregory.
UW is a bad football team. Nice to get the win but let's be honest, that Husky team isn't very good.
I tend to think that the "Tyee Club" brain trust demanded Huard. And they got him, in a "not for ready prime time" performance. On defense, what was Bob thinking, with a three man front from beginning to end. At some point you must realize it ain't working, de Laura isn't taking the bait, you are giving him all day to throw and you are struggling to stop the run game. Geez, you'd think Bob was channeling a little Leach inflexibility on defense.
Bob you are still and will always be a Coug, even though you won't be a Husky tomorrow.

they were bad but were in every game all year and has talent.
Great game plan by Smith and the O coahes. De Laura didn't force a thing and picked them apart and they stayed with the run. It was an O clinic that Leach could have done 7 times in Apple Cups but never did.
We all know that Leach would have coached all the enthusiasm out of the Cougs before the game, and had we won, it would have been a nail biter. No Coug team has beaten a drop 8 Huskies defense, or even come close before. The reason we dominated this year, in record fashion, is we had a solution to the drop 8, its called a run game. 200+ yards, and they had no solution for what we did, for the first time in a long while
The drop 8 is easy to beat when they can't get pressure with 3. We ran the same offensive gameplan we ran all year. No trick plays. No wrinkles. He'll, we didn't look more fired up than normal. We did target the outside receivers more than normal but this was a simple case of us outclassing them.
Don't give the Huskies more credit than they deserve. All we had to do was execute and we'd get a comfortable win.
It's far more exciting to have a shot at the conference title if OSU can pull the upset next week.

As much as tonight was epic, one thing to remember. Leach's recruits WON THIS GAME.
These were 100% of Mike Leach's recruits. Yes, it would have been a nail biter. We all know Leach's weakness. Can't get the team ready to play your rival, stubborn, and unwilling to run the football, etc., etc.
But these were Leach's kids. Without these guys.....we would have not won this football game. So....thank you Mike for the talent.
I question about the cupboards for next year, and the year after. Hopefully Dickert gets some studs.
Fair enough. Neither was the team Rolo rolled out vs Utah State. He earned this job over over the past 5 weeks. Time to give him what he’s earned
I’d say we flipped the script on the old jimmy lake plan. We handed it off and dared them to adjust. They didn’t. We exploited the mismatch of our bigger recovers against the safeties. Again, no adjustment. And, that let us keep our offense on the field, wear down their D, and keep ours rested.
UW ran 45 offensive plays…total. We had 41 rushing plays. Our strategy left their offense in a hole, with a freshman QB. And they played right into it.
On the downside, we left quite a bit on the field. The red zone struggles are still there, plus some ill-timed penalties. Depending how you count, we missed on scoring 16-30 more points. Nobody’s ever going to be perfect, but only getting 3 on half your red zone trips isn’t enough. This game should have been over at halftime. It’s been said before, but this team needs a real OC…and I’d like to see a good QB coach too.

79COUG: Tailgating was awesome. One thing different that was a first, and unprecedented: Almost all Husky fans totally respected who we are. Our team, the talent, our players, Dickert, etc.
They had massive fear from the beginning, and many voiced they are just sick of their program, and that that they're actually happy for us, (or the casual non-UW degreee fan, would say...."I'm actually rooting for the COUGS").
Never before have I seem so much respect from the west side. Pretty cool, as the dumpster fire continues with the team from Seattle, as they're blaming Lake for ruining everything, including the culture. Bad hire, as Jen and Peterson are to blame for hiring/endorsing Lake.
Then you've got the Sea-Losers.
The state is looking for a winner to stand behind, to root for, and the COUGS is their answer.

Plus de Laura was injured and out the second half of the USC game, and did not play against Utah.
The great part about this is, in 18 months, nobody will remember they weren’t very good (and honestly, neither were we). Yet for the next 150 years it will be official canon that we won in 2021

Yup, it was all about how bad the Dawgs were! The Cougs deserve little credit for the largest victory margin in school history. We must remember that we were heavy, heavy, 1 pt. favorites to win. A blow out was a virtual certainty.
If Leach were the coach we would have shredded the "drop 8" this year! That's obvious. Max Borghi is clearly an Leach hating punk for claiming in the post game press conference that you beat the "drop 8" by running it down their throats, like we did. Clearly, you beat the "drop 8" with "pass protection" and throwing 60 times. What an idiot Max is. Running on a 4 or 5 man box count is recipe for certain failure, being successful at it does nothing to discourage a "pin you ears back" pass rush or open wider holes in the zone.
You are absolutely right, we didn't need to change much, or run trick plays. Why change something that they just can't stop? That's identical to what Leach, and the Air Raid, faced against the Dawgs. Oh that's right, the Dawgs completely shut the Air Raid down six straight years. If at first you don't succeed, try the same damn thing again, again, again, again! Its just too bad Leach didn't have that one last "again" to finally prove he was "right" all along.

See that Auburn team that just held Alabama to 10 pts. in regulation today. Well the incapable Leach put 43 pts and over 500 yards of offense on that same team this season in that same stadium.
Congrats to the Cougs for getting over the hump. They took care of business. But you live in a fantasy world if you think that UW team last night was a figment of what they were 3 seasons ago. One of the major differences last night was the UW QB threw 4 ints. which has zero to do with what offense WSU ran.
ALL things considered, and it is time to do such, I'm in the Camp of giving Coach D the reins for a 3 year contract. Pay him 2.5 M the first year and make it clear he has to stabilize the staff and has money to do what he feels are necessary upgrades. Give him incentives the 2nd and 3rd year and set his buyout at 10 M.
Coach D needs to recruit NOW, thus get him in the position to end the uncertainty. Let's see IF the clown AD can do something right ! Is he the best WSU can obtain ? At this point, in this football universe, I think so !
