I'm not a film expert, but like you guys, I've watched enough recruiting tape to know that kid like Dimry certainly has the ability to garner some scholarship interest. He's very tall, runs well, and understands the importance of high pointing the ball.

I can't help but wonder how he slipped through the cracks to the point where nobody else offered him a ride. It's not like he's an undersized guy like Julian Edlemann or Wes Welker.

If Dimry becomes a contributor, it will show that there are still holes in evaluation. He has great bloodlines, as his dad played 11 years in the NFL. His dad used to run a training facility and also is involved in high school football. You would think that CJ would have been scouted a lot. He looks like an athlete and he high points the ball well.

He's a 2-to play-2 guy, and some schools possibly did not think he has enough speed to play at the next level. He rarely blows by people in his highlights. Guess we're going to find out if he's fast enough.

He has 4.5 speed which is more than fast enough for a 6'6 210 pd guy. He went to one juco played in one game and caught one pass. It was a bad choice and he transferred. He sat out the following year at Saddleback to concentrate on grades. This year is his first football year after high school. He fell through the cracks and shows that recruiting is an exact science.Coaches do not know everyone and cannot view every tape out there. This guy could surprise and be a pleasant surprise.

Yea, I get that he's not a burner, and therefore maybe not a high D-I kid, but we've all seen enough WAC and Big Sky ball to know that a guy with his build should have several offers.

He could become a very useful player for us, even if his role is limited to fade routes in the end zone or in matchup specific games similar to how the Seahawks utilized Chris Matthews in the Super Bowl.

i see a 6'6 210 pd receiver with 4.5 speed. He has the same speed as Sweet and many of the smaller receivers. If he develops he could be more than" useful". If you notice the guys covering him have about the same type of speed and they are running hard to keep up with him.. Dimry also has some quickness which he demonstrated in his video after receiving a pass out in the flat. I hope this kid develops with coaching , and a good nutrition and weight lifting program.

If he is he son od Charles"toast" Dimry,he does have good bloodlines. His father was a 6'0 176 pd CB who unfortunately was called that after trying to Cover Jerry Rice in his memorable NFL game

I've known CJ a long time and let's just say he's had a lot of things out of his control happen. Most people would have quit a long time ago, but as frustrated as I've seen him get, I know how much he wanted to get to this point. I don't feel comfortable talking about LCC, but I was on the team and none of us knew why he wasn't playing including him. Palomar wanted to redshirt him after the first game because they had a lot of older receivers but it got messed up. The transfer paperwork didn't go through in time, so he took a year off. He finally got to play this year.

If he looks slow, it's probably because he has to take his speed down in that offense at Saddleback. I've seen him run and he's got plenty of speed. With a big armed QB, he can absolutely threaten. He's going to work his butt off and surprise a lot of people.

If he can add muscle and weight (50 lbs), he could project as an NFL catching tight end. It'll be interesting to see how this staff develops him.

He's reported a 4.5 40 on a highlight tape. Not the same thing, necessarily, as having actual 4.5 speed. If he runs a legit 4.5, then all the DBs he was playing against in those highlight videos run a 4.4 or 4.5 too.

None of this is to say I'm not happy with having him on board or think he's "slow," much less too slow to be effective. Kenny Lawler has good ball skills and is big, but probably runs a 4.65 40. He still was very effective for Cal this year.

Greatly appreciate your insight, LCCMavs13! I admire your willingness to share that but without violating some confidences.

Lawler still looked awfully skinny last season. Didn't his dad tout him as a 4.4 guy?

I wouldn't be surprised to hear anything his dad was saying about him, but his highlight tapes reported a 4.6 40, as I recall. Skinny but crazy ball skills.

Thanks for the thoughts on him ... we could have a real sleeper on our hands here. Re his speed, I did see in a couple of the highlights that he had a pretty good burst after he caught the call. He was having to come back to the ball all the time on underthrown balls.

That seemed to happen quite often.

Just a point that I've always believed; but possibly all will not agree.

4.5 or any specific speed plays out differently for a really tall, long legged kid than it does for a shorter kid.

A shorter kid can often cut sharper, which can benefit them in terms of helping keep a defender from getting a good wrap-up, or sometimes an outright miss.

A tall kid with the same straight line speed may not be able to cut quite as sharply, but if he is cutting in order to leap, the combination of the two (the cut and the leap) is something that a defender is not going to be able to cover, even if the defender is relatively tall.

There is more to the analysis than straight ahead speed, and a good passing offense needs both kinds of kids discussed above.
