Deserves it's own thread. Dishon Jackson has entered the portal. It can't all be good news this time of year. Too bad he was derailed so much by injury and then the deal last season. I wish him well wherever he lands. More than anything I wish him good health!

Ouch! Was worried he wouldn’t return to his former self on the court but really didn’t see him as a transfer risk.

It appears to me that Smith and staff are not hesitant to recruit over a player. In the old days that would be a considered a sign of disloyalty and a win-at-any-cost mentality.

The new order of things including the portal make that ancient thinking. There's no implied contract other than just now, baby. And that goes both directions with relatively unrestricted transfer options for the players and coaches jumping to their next gig. As fans we should understand nothing is forever.

Hopefully the staff is communicative with their existing roster and clear in the likelihood of playing time and don't try to string players along. It is far better to be upfront and let the player determine what is in his best interest. Conversely, the player needs to be upfront on what his goals and expectations are.

Smith has two bigs coming in - maybe Jackson saw the writing on the wall. And perhaps he has more insight on Gueye's thinking too. Being the fourth big isn't the best spot to be in and that may not have fit into DJ's expectations.

A mutual parting, so to speak.

I've thought all along the portal was going to alter college athletics in a very bad way. I never thought NIL was that big of a deal because very few players would benefit from it. With the portal, however, it's the wild west. There's no loyalty either way. With exceptions fans don't make a strong connection with players, and the other way around. Hurts attendance, school pride, and in the end donations.

The transfer portal makes it possible to go 17-15 with a NCAA roster every year.

The portal is yet another reason I have started to follow the women's team as much if not more than the men. Kamie has done a nice job of keeping attrition at a minimum if not zero. I really hope that continues. The continuity that provides has become a key strength for the program.

i wonder if it’s that WSU wouldn’t clear him to play.
This made me think of Devard Darling. For those who don't know, Devard came to WSU from Florida State University when they would not clear him to play. Devard's twin brother, DeVaughn, died after a workout at FSU related to his sickle cell anemia.

Me too....Me too,

The play with a joy and they have a comradarie that you don't see in mens ball...or football for that matter.

Portal, NIL, sitting out for post season play etc.

About the only thing good is that it has been a good tournament because of the upsets.

there isn't much of a difference between the top seeds and the lower seeds. The top teams just aren't that good.

I mean that Baylor team from 2 years ago would smoke any of these teams in the tourney. Same with those great Duke and Florida teams.

Heck, the quality of ball went down when players started leaving early en masse.

Jackson wasn't going to be the 4th big on the team. He was either going to be #1, at best or tied for #1 or alone in as #2 at average, and tied for #3 at worst.

Only Gueye was CLEAR CUT ahead, tied with him for #1,#2 big on roster.

Jaki was tied with Jackson for #2, #3 best big on team at best for Jaki.

That meant that Jackson was either #1,#2,#3 best big on team, and best post player on team.

Only way Jackson would even have a shot at #4 big on team, is if Chinyelu is a starter, a NBA draft pick after his freshman year, etc.

Not bloody damn likely that Dion, Chinyelu, Cluff were going to be better then 1. Gueye. 2. Jackson. 3. Jaki.

So Jackson entering transfer portal had NOTHING to do with something like Jackson not getting enough playing time, or being #4, etc.

Jackson is entering the portal for in no particular order:

Either:

Not being cleared to play.

Or

Is too injured to play at WSU

Or.

Not getting along with, not happy with coach, team, players, etc

Or

Concerned that Gueye might stay, outshine him, etc.

Or

Concerned that WSU, Smith maybe not the place where he would either develop into, or team not do well enough to get him enough visibility to have shot at BIG TIME pro ball.

Or

Experts, Pros, coaches, got in his ear.

Or

He got a NIL deal outside of WSU, etc.

One of those an or any combinations of the above, is PROBABLY why Jackson is leaving.

Not saying what the specific reason is as we don't know, but one of the above reasons, etc, is at least semi likely.
