will try something different in the AC? Will punishing runs up the gut when Jimmy Lake lines up the mutt safeties 25 yards back and pulls a d-lineman out to get another DB on the field force that ditz to actually think? I'm not asking Leach to go brain dead as Price did in the 2001 AC when he ran Minnich into a wall three straight times at the goal line, or when he called for a poorly executed halfback pass (three times WSU had the ball first and goal in that game and failed to score). Nope, I'm just saying vary it up. Give your QB a break and force the defense to think about something else (I'm assuming Lake can even think; he couldn't qualify to get into WSU, hence no offer).

Leach won't change. We know that.

Are you still having nightmares with visions of past Apple Cup disasters?

I like the "brain dead" part.

PS Jimmy Lake is the most brilliant human who has ever walked the earth. You understand that, right?

No nightmares. Ediot and others with legs wrapped around flukey wins in the '80s (the '83 win being the exception) are plenty wet at night with all that, but perhaps I'm wrong about Jimmy. Perhaps he's just misunderstood...

We had Wicks at 235 and he touched the ball like 2 times. Don’t see changes.

Wicks was 235? And I recall he was banged up going into the AC and aggravated the injury during. But the larger point that Leach's Aspergers will roll on is undeniable, but there's also no denying his 36-15 win-loss record (26-10 in conference) over the past four years. Of course, there is that 10-2 collapse this season due to the 2014 recruiting disaster...

You know that WSU cannot ever recruit enough good OL players, right? :D

I just want a running play that has a power, lead blocker: llike a fullback or TE type.

I just want a recruiting class better than #10 in the PAC 12.

F the ratings. All of our initial guys are 3 stars. That's plenty good. The ratings are skewed towards the 4 and 5 star guys. Get a couple of 4 stars and you leave WSU in the dust. Has worked out great on the field for Oregon the last 4 years. Plus, when/if we sign a couple of non rated guys (like some JC's are, or unknown's like the Pasco guy) our rating plummets. Shahman for instance, is unrated - so that's a "0" star and knocks us down a few notches in the rankings.

Would I like to see us sign 25 4 and 5 stars every year? Of course. Are the 4 stars really that much more talented than our 3 stars? I'm sure some are, but others......? And would all these 4 and 5 stars pan out? Well, let's see. How many of them transfer because they aren't enshrined the day they set foot on campus? How many quit their teams before bowl games, leave early, etc? How many simply don't pan out, period? How many are all about themselves, rather than their team?

So yeah I'll take our class of solid 3 star guys any day.

Who gives a flying fudge what recruiting experts think? We are a long way off from winning recruiting rankings wars. The important thing is churning out 8-9 win seasons year after year to raise the prestige of the program.

This stuff doesn't happen overnight. We signed one kid from Eastern Washington this year. Same with last year. Legit power 5 kids aren't growing up in WSU's footprint. We need to mine for nuggets in areas where kids grew up rooting for other schools. This leaves us recruiting kids who, most of the time, have been passed over by the local favorite.

Abe Lucas, Josh Watson, and Cade Beresford, all overlooked by UW.
Our LA guys get passed over by USC and UCLA.
Cammon Cooper wasn't recruited by Utah. Our Texas guys haven't been offered by A&M or Texas.
It's hard for us to go into the Bay Area and snag Cal's top targets. Armauni Archie thought long and hard about an 11th hour Cal offer, for example. Imagine if they had made him a priority.

Our coaches do a phenomenal job recruiting. The program just isn't to a point where we are going to go into the back yard of a local school and be successful. Every year we head back to a bowl, it makes it easier to sell to recruits that Pullman is a top tier option.

Don't forget Stanford made a late push for Borghi....the school he always wanted to go to when he was younger. That was a huge plus for the Cougs to have Max stay loyal...more so than the position coach who recruited him.

Glad Cougar

Jamir Thomas will be nice to have on 3rd or 4th and short. Could end up being a fabulous linebacker as well. Nice problem to have.

We don’t need a different offensive philosophy to beat UW. We need to 1. show up and 2. not have terrible luck with key injuries and shitty conditions.

There was a couple of snaps under center, QB sneaks, etc that we saw over the last couple years. That mighta come in handy on 4th and inches in the AC, especially when UW trots 3 linemen and 6 DBs on every play. Regardless of what system you run you should have a package in place to get a yard that doesn’t include the quarterback standing 5 yards from the LOS to take the snap. Every QB should be able to take a snap from center.

A lot of the short yardage problem is pure physics - a d lineman in a 3 or 4 point stance is lower than an o lineman in a 2 point stance.

The lower player will have the leverage nine out of ten times and win the battle.

I was not a physics major or a lineman, but understand football well enough to recognize the issue.

Also, running plays out of the shotgun take longer to develop. I was always thought as a QB to run quick hitting straight ahead plays in goal line or short yardage situations if the coaches could not get a play sent in quick enough.

I suspect that Jamir will see the field sooner, rather than later, but that is up to him and his development.

As for recruiting rankings, it is clear from the comparison between class rankings and actual won/lost records that they are only a dim, hazy reflection of a classes potential.

Most of the recruiting "gurus" are just little nerds who take themselves way too seriously.A look at the other Board confirms this. They set up a panel of experts to evaluate the cougs class of recruits. They are laughable little guys who do not know squat. A prime example is Andy Katz a nondescipt little guy who kissed the tight arses then he was seen an expert on stuff he knows little about. The coaches do not ttake them seriously

I think Thomas will be playing linebacker for us. However, they could also throw him into some offensive sets from time to time too if they want to get creative.

WSU, Leach is averaging between 1 to 5, 4 stars, 1,2, 2 stars, 1,2 NR's, the rest 3 stars per year over Leach's Tenure.

Some of those 4 stars are the clear RR 5.8 4 stars. Some 4 stars are 2,3 stars upgraded to 4 stars by Rivals, Scout, ESPN. Some 4 stars are only 4 stars by 1 of the recruiting services, and 3 stars by the rest. Some 4 stars are the borderline RR 5.7 lowest ended 4 stars.

Now without looking at recruiting rankings, those look like pretty good, about 30th to 40th ranked, 4th to 7th in Pac 12.

Now in the past thats what these classes would be ranked, but the rest of the country, bluebloods, Pac 12, etc, has found ways to to recruit good enough that DESPITE how good these classes are, these great classes are still ranked lower at 40th to 60th.

Also part of it is the 1,2, 2 stars, 1,2, NR's in the classes. 2 stars, NR's LOWER the recruiting ranking. Even ONLY 1,2, 2 stars, 1,2 NR's, can, will, significantly lower the recruiting ranking of a class filled with 3,4 stars.

Take out the 2 stars and the NR's, and the WSU,Leach's recruiting class rankings would go from about 40th to 60th, to 30th to 45th.

Also Leach has recruited most 4 stars in WSU history, and the CONSISTENTLY higher ranked classes in WSU history.

Yes, Price, others have ON RARE EXCEPTIONS recruited a 5 star, in a single, 1,2, maybe 3, recruiting classes, and 1,2, maybe 3, 4 stars, in 1,2, maybe 3, recruiting classes, and 1,2 top 25 recruiting classes.

BUT THOSE WERE RARE EXCEPTIONS, just like 10-2, Rosebowl, 3, 10 win seasons in a row were RARE.

Price NORMALLY went to 1 bowl out of every 2,3,4, 4 wins and 7 losses, losing seasons.

And Price NORMALLY recruited recruiting classes with NO 4 stars, lots of high end 2 stars, low end 3 stars, ABOUT 47th to 77th ranked recruiting classes.

Sure Leach has not YET achieved the EXTREMELY RARE HIGHS that Price, past WSU history has achieved.

BUT LEACH IS, DOES CONSISTENTLY BETTER in RECRUITING, WINS, LOSSES, BOWLS, etc.

And so because of that Leach is RECRUITING AT A CONSISTENT AWESOME LEVEL EXCEPT FOR THE RARE EXCEPTIONS, NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN WSU HISTORY.

But despite that, despite all the 4 stars, WSU, Leach is still only 10th in Pac 12, 40th to 60th in country, in recruiting class rankings.

THIS IS WHY YOU CANT, DONT, SHOULD NOT GO BY THE RECRUITING CLASS RANKINGS.

Instead you go by THE 4 STARS, HIGH END 3 STARS in Leach's classes.

Also Leach is beating out top blueblood schools for 3,4 star recruits

Also some to most of Leach's recruits have offers from semi top blueblood like programs.

So while Leach does do more with less, and is a good evaluator, Leach is NOT ONLY ONLY a good evaluator, and instead is a good evaluator, AND IS A GOOD RECRUITOR.

And in the future as Leach continues to RELOAD, Rack up the wins, goto good bowl games, CONSISTENTLY year after year, like he has the last 4 years, WSU, Leach's recruiting class rankings will gradually get better, to about 29th to 39th, and 4th to 7th in Pac 12, after about 4 to 7 to 11 years.

So instead of going by ranking, instead look at the 4 stars, high end 3 stars, in WSU Leach's classes.

He’s going to play LB

The oldest recruiting trick in the book.

If he does. He gets significant pt next year.

I am really stoked about the 4.4 RB we have in the fold. I hope he gets a shot in the return game. Apparently he is running track also.

Justus Rogers... “Leach is bringing in a poor throwing Wing-T QB to run his precision Air-Raid Offense”

Cole Madison... “He’s a big bodied Tight End that will transform Leach’s Air Raid”

UW got Tui because they told him he could play QB when everyone else wanted him as a safety. I remember him playing a little QB.

Don’t discount a guy who’s being told he can’t do something. Especially a kid like this who’s obviously a beast. He might end up at LB but wouldn’t shock me if he ended up being our go-to back in a couple of years.

Yeah Bazille looks electric. If this kid ends up at RB there’s some serious thunder and lightning.
