Domnic Green

Kent is going to have a some success before the top recruits come to Pullman. That said,i think that he will be much more competitive than people think.

It took Leach a couple of years to turn things around Be patient,Kent is a proven product

Loosing westside kids can't be a good sign. This is his second year of recruiting and so far he isn't getting it done.

I agree so far not very impressed and without the Johnny's and the Joe's success is far away.

Second year recruiting? He was hired five months ago. Second cycle, I'll give you that. But you know just as well as anybody that college basketball recruiting is always two cycles ahead. So he's had five months to catch up on the 2014, 2015 and 2016 classes that 9 of 12 coaching staffs in the Pac-12 have had at least two full years recruiting.

Additionally, while he can lean on his past resume while recruiting kids and say 'remember Aaron Brooks, Luke Ridnour, Luke Jackson and all those really good guys?' -- for the most part, these 16 year olds don't remember them. It's not going to be easy on the recruiting trail after being on the job for five months. Kids have no reference point; it's going to take time, even if they don't have time.

Washington State offered Dominic Green last week, but as did Arizona State. But that goes back to the "what have you done lately" recruiting narrative that Kent doesn't have at his disposal.

I have posted to the "wait until Kent has a full year next year" crowd how far behind this staff is out of the gate. He's had a few month to recruit for the early signing period and was way behind most staffs in the Pac 12/West coast who have had contact with some of these players for years.

I wish he was able to overcome it during the spring and how it's looking for the November signing period. Doesn't look good at this point but it's not exactly a surprise and probably why they have a lot of offers out. What they need to do is continue to get on these kids final 3 to 5 list and improve with what they have on the court. Hope Lacy can stay healthy all year.

Observation/speculation on my part, certainly not fact. I wonder if the staff's collective age is a deterrent for some kids. While Curtis Allen is young....Kent, Graham, and Dominguez are all either on the cusp of age 60 or already there. The energy may be there but the perception could be a staff past its prime. Certainly that could be used against the staff by other schools.

It's good to wait at least a full year and a few recruiting cycles before casting final judgment. But I did expect more at this point in recruiting than I've seen. That is supposed to be Kent's strength. At a similar point in his first few months as WSU head coach, Dick Bennett was lining up Low, Weaver, Cowgill, Harmeling, and Henry. They weren't highly touted but they went on to be a very special group (minus Henry, who battled back injuries). Maybe Ernie's first group will surprise like that one did.

It is amazing that people want to judge Kent on five months worth of recruiting. i strongly suspect that these posters are the ones who thought that"Bone should have one more year". He is gone and we can thank Moos for that. These guys are looking for any reason to knock Kent'.Now "it is the age of his staff" Come on kids Kent is here for at least five more years. Kent has to overcome the loser mentality but also the perception that Bone created that WSU is not a basketball school. The program was down in the dumps and it will take some time to bring it up to being a place where top recruits want to go.It will take alot of hard work to erase the stain of the Bone years. Moos and leach had to contend with these guys who had privileged access to athletic programs . They wanted to know the coaches and would be willing to forego victories because they were close to the coach and "just knew that the coaches would turn it around if given enough time" Hell if Moos had not come n the cougs might be in the MWC. Now he has dumped two very bad coaches and the future offers hope. The naysayers need to go away and let the coaches put their stamp on their programs.

Don't think I fit your profile of a Bone supporter looking for reasons to criticize Kent. I was pretty clear about the need to get a new coach and couldn't imagine any reason to keep Bone around. As far as making judgments about his recruits in just 5 months, you've been generally quick to praise Kent's recruits and what he's doing so far....how is that different from those of us a little skeptical of his recruits? Both of us are assessing things perhaps a little too early.

For one who threw rocks pretty early in the Bone regime, it's going to be interesting to watch how you defend Kent if he falls short of others' expectations.

I guess by throwing rocks early in the Bone regime ,it shows that i was right on target. He was and is a horrible coach I guess i caused a few boners on supporters's heads which are still red.. I will also surmise that you were wrong in supporting him. Yes i will gladly stand up for Kent at this time. As i said , he is a proven commodity. I do like his recruits and hope they quickly move the D11 players out of the picture. While i hope that the Hawk is improved ,my hope is that Cheatum is a starter as well as Dunbar or Redding. If the same players from last year play,i will have a lot of explaining to do. Most of those guys would never have been given scholarships to good D1 programs.Kent was left with about 4-5 D 1 players, some of whom still need to rpove that they can consistently play D1 ball. Kent will have to do a hell of a coaching job to win 15 games this season

That's the point. This is not a kid either ASU or WSU was on until a week ago. However, Curtis Allen should have known about him for years.

Point is ASU nailed a kid in Ernie Kents backyard and this is not a good sign.

Besides as you well know, BK, nearly all Basketball recruiting is done by the Assistant's. HC only close, we didn't even notch a visit.

Unlike other folks here,i was not happy when Curtis Allen was retained. I just did not understand why people were so high on him. I was hoping that Kent would hire a competent recruiter . Perhaps,if there are any other dealings like this, then Kent may make a needed change in my opinion.

I believe you are making too much of the ASU nailed a player in Kent's backyard. If this happens with every recruit for the next five years, then yes, it is not good. But, one recruit is such a small small sample size to be useless. We really have no idea why he chose ASU and the reason probably has nothing to do with Kent or WSU.

Elcomache probably doesn't even want to use balls left over from the Bone era.LOL

You just said you will gladly stand up for Ernie Kent. Then how about supporting the coaches he hired, including Curtis Allen?

Glad Cougar

Curtis .like Kent, needs to prove himself all over again.. It is up to Kent to support the guy. He is giving Curtis a chance and we will see how he does in the long run. Perhaps they did buy all new basketballs as the old ones just did not seem to drop through enough for them to win.I really think that the new staff will do a better job of coaching the team. I hope for more effort and more teamwork from Kent's team.

I think Kent like all coaches would love to have an athletic big man in the middle. He however has had very few if any over the years. He has been guard oriented with athletic do everything forwards. I think in a perfect Kent line up you would see three guards, one of which would be of the 6-5 plus variety and two forwards 6-7 to 6-9 who could stretch the defense with threes and driving ability.

In such a lineup ,these two"big guys" would have to be very mobile. They would have to be athletic with good spring ,lateral movement and be able to run the court well.
