...has left the program, according to Dickert.

Interesting, as during the game he ran the wrong route that 6 points for (I believe) Kyle Williams hit in stride and Williams lit into him after. Appreciated seeing teammates get on each other to be better. Won't speculate as I haven't been really following things as close. Hope things are well for him.

Too bad.

I was looking for defensive tackle by that name. Ha.

There was another point in the 3rd quarter where the team was trying to hurry to the line to get another play off and Sheffield was still about 10 yards downfield and didn't seem to be in a real hurry to get back. I thought he was sulking but obviously don't know what he was thinking. The play early in the 4th quarter when him and Williams were both in the same spot was a big play since it cost us a first down. No way for us to know who was in the wrong spot but Williams was clearly angry. It is too bad since Sheffield reportedly had big play potential but on the other hand having a player already complaining about their role on the team isn't a desirable thing.

When someone walks away, I hope they have a plan. There are much worse things in life than graduating with a college degree, free of charge, even if you're not totally pleased about your PT.

Whatever demons he's fighting I hope he figures it out and thrives wherever he goes.

BTW, is Smithson getting playing time yet?

I am sure it is a lot of things, playing time, targets, homesickness, acceptance, to name a few of 100s of reasons, he has probably been thinking about it for a while. Played in 2 games, so by leaving now I think he keeps his Junior year of eligibility open. Never like to see people leave, but if they are unhappy, it's best for them to move on, for his sake I hope he finds what he is looking for, but until he looks at himself and modifies his expectations, he may not find it.

True but you learn more about yourself when you battle those things. It makes you stronger as an individual. Quitting is the easy way out.

"Quitting is the easy way out"

True, and shows a lack of maturity, for his sake, I hope he figures it out.

My gut feeling it was a team rule violation. Dickert is a nice guy to allow him to resign, then saying it was his decision. All speculation.

A player doesn't just throw in the towel in the middle of the season, who played two games, (granted not a starter), to call it quits. Team rule violation, is my guess.

He was a fringe, borderline starter/off the bench, etc. He was the bball equivalent of 6th man, that gets 23 minutes to 26 minutes.

He got a LOT of playing time. He was a ELECTRIC returner, and he did JET SWEEPS, and he had the talent, skill to be a GAMEBREAKER, until he either just wasn't a GAMEBREAKER, for whatever reason, an or Lincoln Victor, etc, took his thunder, etc.

A player like that, in that situation, does not usually quit, so what you say about a team rule violation makes sense.

If he did quit, then bad judgement, bad decision, lack of maturity, etc, on his part, and I hope he gets that straightened out.
