That dude is a stud. He’s what, top three three receiver the conference? Dude had one other offer out of junior college. Eastern Michigan. And it wasn’t like he was playing at a small JC, he was at SFCC a legit JC. He caught over 133 balls in 2 seasons. Just goes to show how bad some coaches are at seeing talent that they can coach. Not one mountain west team thought he was worth a scholarship? And now he would start on almost any team in the country.

Stars matter, but we’re 40-15 in the last 4+ years and how many 4 star players have come through this program during that time? Leach develops players better than anybody in the country.

Good post. Then you have walk-on Arconado who I doubt had any offers out of HS or JC.

Gordon being 2nd/3rd string QB the last couple years, I believe he got a ton of practice and scrimmage reps throwing to Arconado. Add in Gordon's 2 years at SFCC throwing to Easop and there is a lot of chemistry between those two receivers.

39 catches for 542 yards in 3 games to be precise if you are talking about that chemistry between the 3 players.

Easop wasn't ready to come in until the summer which hurt his chances to get more offers. Then he red shirted after showing a great deal of promise in fall camp 17'. Goes to show that not all JC transfers are a "waste" if they come in and redshirt. Valencia is totally solid. If Langford were to redshirt this year as Jimmie Price might....it's money in the bank. Get them reps in 4 live games throughout the season and let them acclimate.

Arconado is a great story. He can take a hit too. Love his humility and his competitiveness. He is definitely AG's go-to guy when he needs yards in a critical situation.

Absolutely.

Also of note, I'm pretty sure that Arconado's play pretty much guarantees us seeing a redshirt used on Jamire Calvin.

Exactly. Not only that it makes teams game plan to account for Brandon which opens up Easop, Martin, Dez and Fisher on longer routes. I would of love to of see him hit Deon out of the backfield, but he wasn't looking his way. That guy can cut at full speed.

Arconado follows a long line of guys who were not higher ranked strictly due to speed. Every year the results show that receivers who do everything else well are more valuable than really fast kids who don't do the other things as well. Of course, we'd all like to have it all...speed, focus, hands, toughness, field awareness, etc. But a kid who can't outrun a safety but does everything else well can help us win football games...

Easop redshirted after enrolling in the spring because he wasn't in good enough shape to perform to the level necessary. He has phenomenal hands and is a great route runner but he isn't flashy so he was lightly recruited. He reminded me a lot of Gabe/River when I saw his highlights. Really easy for someone with his measurables to be overlooked.

Steve Largent comes to mind.

Yes, a very good example. But far from the only one; it seems that a guy that is cut from this mold is a top 5 receiver in the PAC every year, and sometimes more than one of the top 5. Back in the old days we would call him a "possession receiver".

It's OK cr8....you can call him a possession receiver. Those pr's give defensive backs fits. They're always doing that inconvenient "getting open" on every play thang and I'm just not hang'n with bro!

Hobert will be the next inside wr...but with more speed. We still might need Calvin against better defenses.

Calvin will be like picking up a 4 star JC next year who is already familiar with the playbook

If Drue Jackson did leave the team in order to be closer to his family..then I guess he won't be coming back here. But he is a 4 star who's like a JC right now. He's averaging 70 yards per game for a Tyler JC team that's not very good this year.
