did you not think Kent had a fair shake? Do you believe he had too much dead weight to get rid of not just year one but year two and that slowed down the rebuild. I don’t like to see anyone fired, especially when they are passionate about what they do?

Is you frustration in that you felt he finally turned the corner and tangible results would have come to fruition next year? Do you believe he turned the corner and was getting legit Pac 12 players in the program ?

Is Kent a friend of yours or at least someone you really liked ? Did you feel the same way when Bone was canned , and if not what was the difference ?

Actually no real frustration. The real thing is the personal abuse heaped upon the man with shifting bars for success. The first bar was first to just be competitive, He beat Arizona ,Arizona State and Colorado and was competitive in games against udub. They kept shifting "bars" and seemingly had other agendas and personal grudges against the man. Yes talk about records etc but the personal animosity was apparent at least to me. I still think that it is funny how posters here basically worship Bennett and he has been gone for over a decade turning his back on the place which gave him a start because of daddy. If he had not been given the job here he would probably be an assistant at some D 1 school.IYes i believe that the corner had been turned and the incoming and potential recruits would have started a successful turn in the program But one of the main reasons is the money to be spent by Chun whom i believe became ego involved in trying to force Kent out without paying him. Kent was no fool and rightly got the money due. If the players leave the program will be dreadful for at least the next two years. I think that if he had given Kent one more year and allowed him to retire after next year if not successful then a lot of money would have been saved. If Kent was successful then the program would haven been resurrected and a new guy could have taken up the reins. As i said Chun made a bold ,albeit unwise move and fired him. He now has to bear the responsibility for what happens either good or bad. The poke at Bennett supporters was actually fun as i cannot see how one worships this guy, He has already talked about" how happy he is" and what he has accomplished even thought it eats at him as he is seen as a March failure . Bennett could give a rats arse what i think and any anguish caused among his coug faithful is funny. We shall see how the program does and maybe these other guys are right and a major immediate change is necessary. Time will tell but i am not hopeful for the future.

Where did you get the idea that Chun tried to not pay Kent his money.

I'm not sure what world you live in, but there were no shifting bars for me. I felt that we needed to finish with a winning record for Ernie to stay. I would challenge you to find where Chun, Schulz, or any media outlet said that the hope for this season was to "be competitive" and nothing more than that.

Also, you sound like a crazy person when you suggest that Tony Bennett doesn't deserve the respect that he gets. Butthurt Coug fans are the only people on the entire planet that think that Bennett doesn't deserve a head coaching job. I'm thrilled that they got beat the other day....but I respect the dude.

(1) Please point me to the evidence that Chun tried to fire Kent without paying him. Are just making that up or is there something you can cite that proves he did that. If it's made up, stop lying about other people to make them look bad. That's lame and mean.

(2) What shifting bars are you referring to? Before the season, you yourself said Kent "needed to win" this year or he probably had to go. (If I need to, I can go back and find your posts). Is a 21-loss season your definition of winning this year?

(3) My observation is that you care more to be right and prove other Cougar fans wrong than actually caring if the program is in good shape. Otherwise you wouldn't objectively think Kent should've been retained.

(4) Everything you accuse of others who wanted Kent gone can be applied to "the personal abuse" as you call it that you heaped on Ken Bone throughout his tenure. Tell me why that isn't a double standard or a "shifting bar".

(5) I like Tony Bennett, think he's an excellent coach, and I'm glad he gave us the best 3-year run in WSU basketball history. But I don't really care if he wins or loses at UVA. That's not my team or alma mater. So whatever you have to say about him doesn't give me any "anguish". I just think it's funny that you shift the discussion away from Kent and towards Bennett, for some reason. Maybe you are trying to make some fans as "anguished" as you appear to be with our current coaching change. Not a problem for me....I'm happy that Kent is on his way out and that there is at least some hope for a better future. 58-98 over the past 5 seasons and no improvement on the court was enough suffering for me.

Glad Cougar

Your ‘beliefs’ shift more than the San Andreas fault.

Nobody every ‘attacked’ Ernie personally. In fact more often than not they commended him as a kind and nice guy. I know I did consistently. He’s just a horrible basketball coach. The second worst in school history (Greenwood’s one year notwithstanding). That takes a special kind of not good to pull off.

People attacked and rightfully so his performance and lack of progress and lack of fundamental basketball instruction and inept strategy.

For $1.4 million per year, that’s not much to ask. Five years at $1.4 million should bring more than ‘wait until next year’ at the end of every season.

So keep living in your denial land. You still didn’t answer Ed’s question.

Might as well chime in/pile on.
Some people don't think EK was a good man. Explain Puerto Vallarta - EK never owned up to it. Some think he was a slick hustler. Me included.

The corner wasn't turned, and we would not have been successful.

If EK was a decent man he would have gone to Chun with a retirement/buyout offer NOW. The fact that he was all ready to hit the road recruiting forced Chun's hand, IMHO. He would not have retired next year either. Because he is not a good man.

EK "rightly got the money due". Because he is not a good man.

Wake up.

100% delusion and conjecture and bitterness

I would say this board has given Kent a fair shake. Maybe unreasonably impatient given the resources and our past history of success, but it was always tied to the product on the court. I might have liked Kent more than Bone, but whatever. People disagree.

Brand Y and some folks on Twitter made it deeply personal. That wasn't cool.

One last question cause I get that if talented enough buy in sometimes the last thing that kicks in and that may be the next step. There is a possibility they may have "gotten it" if Kent stuck around. Also our history shows it may be likely the next guy won't fare any better. My expectation is that we will struggle for the next four years.

I also get you respected Kent and seem taken back by the treatment of Kent. I guess the puzzling thing for me is weren't you the one who called CKB as Bonehead? What was so different between the two coaches.?
