Eric Morris to UNT

Dickert better start naming names soon for open positions. Or hopefully is behind the scenes.

Morris seemed like a guy who always would be looking to get back to Texas. There he goes. Opportunity to upgrade.

He needs to name his DC and OC by beginning of next week. Preferably a DC and OC who can bring some players with him. Players aren't going to commit or stay committed wo knowing the OC or DC or at least the philosophy of playing style.

Names I'd consider if Dickert:
OC: Graham Harrell, Beck who just got hired as an OC at Syracuse (good friends w Atuai), Chiaverini, Littrell, Brent Vigen (Montana St HC...was the OC at Wyo and NDST w Dickert)

DC: Dickert wants to keep the same D philosophy so that limits the pool quite a bit: Jimmy Rogers DC/LB coach at South Dakota State (great reputation...coached w Dickert at SDST, young star), Freddie Banks DC at Colorado St ( coached w Ward at Nevada, played in same secondary Dickert coached at NDST back from 08-10, Montana State DC two years ago, Colorado State D improved as year went along, great recruiter...young up and coming, Steve Stanard LB coach at Kansas St ( longtime DC at Wyoming before Dickert arrived, coached under NOW DC Joe Klanderman at both NDST and Kstate.

It would be safe to assume that Dickert has a plan. He is still green as a HC, but he is organized and seems to have a solid game plan for what he does. Any coach or AD for that matter has to have a constant list of replacements in today's college football world. I am sure there was a plan A,B,C last year, for the DC and OC, so I would assume B and C are still options, and others are added. Cam Ward is your QB there are plenty of OCs that would love the chance to coach him and the offense. It is a chance to upgrade and perhaps a chance to hit the portal along with the coaches. As much as we don't like to see the turnover WSU has had in coaches the past 3 years, this is an opportunity to get better.

I don't exactly disagree with any of those names, except that most of the ones you mention - particularly at OC - are ones who are very likely to be looking for a move to HC as soon as they can. I think it would be better for us to get some guys who will stay at least a couple of seasons, and get some stability back in the program.

And, at risk of appearing crass & insensitive, we should also be looking at whether there's anyone on Leach's staff that we'd be interesting in recycling or promoting. Odds are that they're all going to be let go when MSU hires someone new (I doubt they'll promote from within). Spurrier is about the only one I remember that went with him, and while I think he did fine with receivers, I don't know that he's OC material.

He needs guys that are tied to the West Coast. Either former HS coaches that can give him some credibility and brand name in state (I can think of 2) or other P10 coaches that know where the talent is and have relationships in place already.

No one knows who Dickert is. He has 0 brand name here. There is nothing that precedes him walking in the door. The WSU brand isn’t strong enough on the West Coast to carry him.

He is a guy in a WSU polo shirt walking into high schools.

It’s not enough.

My guideance is to hire someone young, dynamic, innovative, and is future head coach material. Must have some track record of showing those things mentioned.

The turnover in staff sucks. But neither Ward or Morris performed well.
Hate to call it addition by subtraction because this was a team just one win shy of a Top 20 ranking and a really good bowl game.

But Shock&Awe's list looks pretty intriguing

So the 6th place in the league instead of 7th place gets a top 20 ranking and a really good bowl game?

I disagree.

6th place in the Pac 12 and going to maybe the Sun Bowl?

Those things don’t make me think top 20 team and good bowl.
Agreed. Even if we beat the fuskies... no way are we Top 25.

Let's be honest... the Cougs were not as good as...

Fusc
Utah
Fuw
Oregon
UCLA

Oregon State was a weird one, but the Beavers were probably better.

Is this a joke that somehow the Pac-12 deserves 7 teams in the Top 25?

Crazy I tells ya'

Not a huge loss. Can find someone equal or better than relatively easy I'd imagine.
