This was good news why he couldn't meet with the WSU president. Since he is the closer one would think he might be close.

Any idea on who he would be trying to close on? When is early signing period by the way?

The early signing period is from November 1, -November 15 ,2017. The regular period is from April 11, -May 16 2018

That's the earliest for the fall signing period. Sorn wouldn't surprise me though

The CJ Elleby commitment was really good and hopefully we follow it up with another good player in the early signing period.

It will be interesting, I miss the long extended thread. The Wash mutts picked up 6'11 Nate Roberts from Maryland. Oregon state picked up 7'1 Kylor Kelley from the juco ranks

Prefer to find another high schooler in the fall period. We will have 3 JC kids on the roster next year

The title of this thread is deceptively misleading, being as Kent has yet to "out recruit" anyone while at WSU.

Interesting comment. There are plenty of coug fans who are actually interested in the ongoing recruiting process. However,it will also interesting to hear your comments as the season progresses.

Its always going to be more about finding under recruited kids with upside, than about out recruiting anyone at WSU. Having said that, Ernie and staff have upped the caliber of recruits culminating with Elleby, who apparently did have high interest from other PAC 12 schools.

Kent's first class was a whiff, which is almost always going to happen the first year of a coaching change in Pullman.

Didn't Elleby have a UW offer?

Elleby said that udub had offered.Elleby fits avabob s profile. He was an under recruited player with a lot of upside. That profile fits most of the players currently on the team.So either Kent has been taking players not wanted by other teams.or he has a eye for players with talent and upside. This season will provide the answer as these are his recruited players

Elleby probably was a fall back recruit for the UW but for us clearly a target. If we are able to get "Elleby like talent" to WSU we are going to be just fine. Just because he was another programs fall back (if that was the case) doesn't mean he's not going to be a good Pac 12 talent.

Came across these highlights the other day of an AAU game Elleby played in. He's tough and pretty physical to go along with the shooting/scoring ability. Typical AAU game but there was some really good talent in this game and he belonged.

A good friend of mine played against his dad in high school. He said the elder was a super smooth player with a great mid range jumper. If nothing else his junior year numbers are very impressive in the metro league

Anyone know what happened to West Seattle PG Nate Pryor? He was signed late by the UW but doesn't appear on their roster.

Elleby s father was a great three point shooter for Cal if i remember correctly, His game is improving and it looks like his explosiveness has increased. I venture to say that he will surpass many of the players rated above him.It sounded more like Pryor was a fall back target for the mutts

Pryor signed but maybe it was just a Financial Aid agreement? Maybe he decided or was pushed to go prep for a year. Since we offered it made me wonder.

WSU never offered Pryor as PG was not one of their needs. It sounds like he was a academic casualty and will probably never suit up for the mutts.

In the long thread you mentioned WSU interest but he committed almost immediately to the UW. Looking on verbal commits there are a bunch of tweets wondering what happened to him on the UW roster. Anyway, back to wondering whether we get another fall commitment soon.

I believe that schools backed off when they learned of his academic difficulties.Washington needed a point guard so they took a chance and lost out. The cougs will probably announce someone prior to the early signing date.It would seem that their priorities are a couple of big men. If the right players commit ,they will find the scholarships

Did Naylor even take a visit? Seems like the JCs are drying up although Corey Manigault is still listed. If he doesn't visit soon I would think he waits until the spring.

Not much out there on Sorn lately.

The cougs are "looking" at other jucos like 7'0 Octavion Corley,6'8 Elijah lufile, 6'8 Eli Abaev, ,and others They have offered the 6'8 Abaev among the jucos. One wonders about high school players like 7'4 Sorn,6'7 Aguir Agua, and if they are pursuing the 6'9 Brooks who recently decommitted The 6'8 Mannigualt is a transfer who has not found a home as far as i can tell..The cougs have one and possibly two more scholarships for the 2018 cycle.

Last year we were recruiting Jacob Hughes 6-11 240 before he went to prep school. Would really like to get him.

I see that Nate Pryor has enrolled with the Elite Sports Academy in Issaquah - I assume in hopes of getting qualified for 2018. Big loss for the Dawgs as they are really weak at point guard. They just got a pg commit for 2018 so remains to be seen if they will even bring Pryor in next year.

UW's freshman Michael Carter spent last year at Elite Sports.

Jacob Hughes 6'11 is still a lightly recruited player. His only D1 scholarship offers were from UTEP and WSU. The last time the cougs offered Hughes was in 2015,so it is unknown if they are still recruiting him.Hughes seems to want offers from the bigger schools. However UCLA and other PAC 12 schools seemingly passed on him.Hughes has to have a breakout year or he will end up playing for a Big Sky program like Montana who had also offered him.

I know WSU has talked to him and been to games to watch him but has WSU actually offered Sorn? Rumor has it he is down their list a ways and Kent is waiting to see what a few others do before offering

Rumors are that he has but nothing concrete as far as i know. Someone else may know? If i was Ernie ,i would free up a couple of scholarships and offer Sorn,if he has not already done so. . The potential obviously is there while at least a couple of the other players may never see substantial playing time for the cougs. Sorn has a firm base with strong legs but needs upper body development and strength.Sorn at about 250-260 pds will look a lot different on the court. It will probably be two years before he sees the court with time to develop physically.

Basketball recruiting seems to be very quiet for this time of the year.It looks like Kamamka Hepa 6'9 PF verballed to Texas over many PAC 12 offers. I can t think of a worse choice for the young man, The well is running dry for this year.

Looks that way. I hope they don't reach even if that means we wait until the spring.
