This is neither an indictment or endorsement of Kent, just an observstion and question.

If I had a dollar for every post that talks about systems and Kent needing players for his system that you cant get to Pullman, or some type of system that can can win in Pullman I would be rich.

My question is what type of system doesnt do better with tall fast guys who can shoot. I know you dont win with short slow guys who cant shoot. They can't score or defend against the former.

Kents former teams were bad defensively because they didnt have the athleticism to defend at this level. This team was bad defensively because they were young and new to the program not because they werent long and athletic.

It's now clear to me that Kent should be offered a lifetime contract. Two wins this weekend has convinced me he is one of the best.

We obviously need to play defense as a team though. Brand y had an interesting take after the ASU game and it seemed to continue against UA. We made them noticeably uncomfortable. I haven't seen that in a long time.

Maybe it is just getting to this point in the season and having more experience. One other thing you have brought up is chemistry. It seemed like Kent was losing them during the mountain trip especially at Utah. While they were still struggling after that trip you could see they were still playing hard.

It was 2 much needed wins but in the end it's just 2 games. Hopefully the light went on and it stays that way the rest of the season.

Again the braying continues and it will be one game at a time.

Oh, c'mon now. Hey we swept the Arizonas. Good for the team, good for Franks' future, good for attendance the next 3 games. CEK will be gone soon enough. If a few wins gets him another year, so be it. Whipping ASU then having them whip the mutts is impressive. And beating AZ at AZ is no small feat, regardless of how good or bad they are.

Sean MIller must use a pint of slime in the morning when he does his hair. What a greaseball.

You can call these excuses, but they are facts. The team hadnt played at home for almost a month when the got to the Mountain schools. what some of us thought was Kent losing the team could have been mental fatigue for the new guys who had not experienced a road trip like this at any level.

No question the team defense improved as was necessary this weekend. Any coach will tell you that for frosh and first year JC kids defense is a tough concept. The difference between this team and prior Kent teams is that this team has the length and athleticism to play the aggressive D and not have to give up the perimeter or the paint.

Are we suddenly forgetting prior seasons under Kent?

Whatever they are doing they need to keep it up. When teams miss shots we can get out on the break which imo is our best offense. Our new found success on defense is strange it’s like all of a sudden teams can’t make lay ins. That may be because we are forcing them to play at a pace they aren’t used to or don’t want to. Either way it worked well this weekend

Sean Miller said postgame that WSU's man to man D surprised him. He did mention UA was missing two key players but he heaped praise on the Cougars, especially Franks and Elleby.

Pat Chun has already turned over 25% of the AD in his first year.

He’s not going to keep Moos’ buddy hire. He’s just not. His legacy will be left on three things - fundraising, hiring a new basketball coach and keeping Mike Leach happy.

Agree. Ernie is done. He's had more than enough time to win.

Maybe add the baseball facility upgrade and football practice facility (which I guess both could be filed under "fundraising").

The article/interview in the Spokesman this morning provide great comfort on the direction of the athletic department.

Wednesday’s LOi event was the first in years that (at least within my peer group) there wasn’t severe gnashing of teeth and puckering butt cheeks after the AD spoke. WSU has a gem in Pat Chun.

Well I am glad the LOI party went well.

As for today's article, I read nothing that provides me much comfort or makes me think Chun is a gem. He needs to get a better haircut for starters. What is with the military cut anyway?

Record fundraising (but no numbers listed). 25% of the department replaced - by his FAU and OSU buddies. Cute and quite young chief of staff he brought with him though.

No naming rights deal. Have to take on debt to pay for the supposedly fully funded Baseball clubhouse. IPF is nowhere near a reality. They still owe me a brick for the $100 I gave for that 15 years ago.

All the momentum is due to FB, GM and CML. And VB and Soccer on the women's side. Wish I had that hand dealt to me in my various career stops. At $650k for 5 years guaranteed.

Ernie stays if he makes it to the NIT or better? Slim chance but not impossible, say they finish up 6-1, that would put them at 9-9 in conference a first round bye in the conference tournament, say they make it to the semi finals and lose out in a close game. Highly unlikely any of this happens, but who would have thought they'd sweep AZ schools. due to the snow I actually watched both games this weekend, and they actually looked pretty good. Plus as week as the PAC 12 is this year anything is possible. Although without Franks next year, this teams will struggle once again. So if Ernie ends up with a winning record this year and an NIT bid, do you keep him?

No

Wow. Chun knows how to hire well, I see.

"A 2014 graduate of Central Florida with a degree in interpersonal/organization communications".

Observer told me he would love to experience her interpersonal skills...

:D

Well that is just rude and degrading to women. No place for that here. And I am sure that this person is highly intelligent and of the finest character.

That said, let's look at what Pat Chun thinks is the appropriate resume for a Pac-12 Athletics Chief of Staff: less than 5 years out of college, and a "luxury/club suite attendant" and "director of guest relations". Heavy hitting stuff. Betcha $5 he's paying her 6 figures. Yeah that Pat Chun is a gem all right.

She spent the previous four years at Florida Atlantic University, most recently as the athletics human resource manager. She also held positions of director of guest relations for FAU Stadium concurrently with the role of executive assistant to the athletic director and human resources coordinator.

She began her professional sports career with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, serving as a luxury suite assistant and game day operations. Jones also worked for Florida Citrus Sports, serving as a club suites assistant.

A 2014 graduate of Central Florida with a degree in interpersonal/organization communications, Jones recently received her MBA in sport management from Florida Atlantic University.

There is nothing short of a trip to the sweet 16 that should merit giving Kent another year. Nothing.

I really don't care about her or anyone else's pedigree - its not secret that getting a job in athletics (departments) is all about who you know.

Can she do the job and will she help move the needle at WSU?

He still has 3 years and $4.2M on his contract. His performance hasn't warranted another year but his contract doesn't make it any easier on WSU.

If Chun's hands are tied the best thing that could happen is we ride Franks to a string of late seasons wins. While it's incredibly unreasonable we add a PG and/or (quality) big in the spring while not losing any of the young core to transfer.

I'm not talking about firing him this year; the thread (I thought) was about extending him. Unless he can pull out a sweet 16 over the next 3 he doesn't get any consideration. Our school, students, fans, and athletes deserve to have a winning team sooner than later, and I think Kent has shown that he simply can't (and won't) get it done, regardless of talent.

I don't think Ava was saying to extend Kent from the OP. There is't an extension in Kent's future but we are possibly tied to him for another year. I would rather see him retire than fired but in the end all I really hope is to hold on to some of the better talent.

Agree Ferris. All I want is the best probability of hanging on to our young talent. Nothing we can do that will bring back any wins over the past 5 years.

We get it. You don't like Chun. According to you, he makes bad hires, has a crappy haircut (i guess that matters) and his eyes are probably too slanted for your liking.

Did I say that? Why would YOU say that? That is a really shitty thing to post.

And yeah, as the chief fundraiser for Athletics it matters what his appearance is. So a crappy haircut matters.

When Chun actually does something, I'll be happy.
