My goodness, if you think the problems of this program rest on the shoulders of two players, you really don't know much about basketball. I'm constantly amazed at the double standard you have used with Kent vs. Bone. A lot of us wanted Bone to be replaced, but had I known Ernie Kent would be his replacement, I would've supported Bone's retention. WSU would've won more games and save a lot of money. A win over Cal is not going to make all the systemic problems in the program go away. I would not be surprised if the Cougars win a handful of games in a real bad Pac-12 this year, but I would also not be surprised if they don't win more than 1-2 games. What isn't in question in my mind is that this program is going nowhere under Ernie Kent no matter how many years he's on the job. Now well into his 5th year, he's actually done the remarkable– he's made this program worse and more irrelevant than it was when he arrived.I did not see the game. However i can see the reason for the hysteria. I have criticized Kent for playing Skaggs and Daniels. Skaggs in particular only role is to chuck up a three pointer the moment the ball touches his hands .While that may be ok if he has a hot hand it is not conducive to team basketball. The team never develops a rhythm to it s game . His limitations as a basketball player are well known. A team s players all need to feel involved and one or two players chucking up shots at will keeps that from happening. The coug point guard s have not taken over control of the team like i hoped they would. That is partly on Kent in his minutes awarded. A team cannot have a leader like Daniels who has marginal skills and is too small to play his position on defense. Bring an optimist i am hoping that the concept of team begins anew against Cal this week a win would solve some problems. Kent will be back next year if only for budgetary reasons
Great point, and good idea.If it were up to me I'd fire him right now. That would give a new chance to build a relationship with the players before they all transfer. There is some talent there, Elleby, Cannon, Kunc, …. Whatever the buyout is it's a drop in the bucket compared to the $63 or $80 million or whatever it is we're in the hole.
Carter Skaggs played 15 mins and took 3 shots, 2 from 3 point land making 1. Yea he’s the problem!
Yeah, and how many points did he give up in those 15 minutes. If he is not scoring during his minutes he is costing the team a LOT of points because of his defense.
i guess people want a huge donor to step in and contribute 30-40 million to buyout Kent and start the quest for a new home for basketball?
You definitely need 3 and 4 star, blue chip players 12 deep to win in this league. Definitely. Can't get around it, no matter the coaching. This is not a player problem, but rather a coaching problem.
Great idea, Rich.If it were up to me I'd fire him right now. That would give a new chance to build a relationship with the players before they all transfer. There is some talent there, Elleby, Cannon, Kunc, …. Whatever the buyout is it's a drop in the bucket compared to the $63 or $80 million or whatever it is we're in the hole.
The cougs need to do some belt tightening and hiring a new guy would mean two very lean years. That would mean more financial losses. You guys think that the players do not support Kent and the coaching staff. This does not appear to be the case. So unless one of ou guys can pony up 5- 10 million it is just not going to happen
Nice spin after some of your earlier posts. i like the young players and new recruits.
