Former Bennett era Decommit Assaults 72 year old ref

Read some mutt posts that said his anger was always an issue. Remember talk we dodged a bullet at the time. Went to 9 programs in 6 years. Guess there is video of the incident as well.

Best decommitment ever.

Maybe best decommitment ever in the history of the NCAA. Not only addition by subtraction, it paved the way for Klay. I wonder how long Tony would've put up with him had McGloughlin himself not made the decision to move on.

It was an amazing chain of events for us. Tony or McLaughlin would have moved on quickly. Thankful how it worked out.

This really needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. In the era we live in, qualified people want nothing to do with officiating youth sports. They don't want to be assaulted on the court, followed into the bathroom or onto the parking lot, or having their names and addresses announced by a college broadcast crew. Those of you with young kids may find yourself arriving at games and finding them cancelled because of no refs, or being handed a whistle. Obviously this guy is a nut, but the micro-agressions and threats are non-stop.

What a coward. Pushing a 72-year old man from behind with a running start....and the victim had no idea he was charging at him. I hope he is convicted and punished to the full extent of the law. I also hope he gets some serious counseling, if he hasn't already.

McLaughlin obviously has some issues to get through. Unfortunately, he's not the first or the last parent to blow a gasket in the stands and act poorly. He seemed to react when one of the officials knocked over his son. However, he ends up blindsiding the other official for whatever reason. Probably because he was totally out of control.

Beyond McLaughlin there's so many things going bad at the end of that game. McLaughlin's son obviously. Takes a swipe at the ball from behind at the buzzer and then shoves the player (who probably said something walking off). Then the bigger player comes in and goes "Maurice Lucas" and knocks McLaughlin's son to the ground. Finally, the official that wasn't blindsided runs in and knocks McLaughlin's son to the ground. Obviously wasn't intentional but came in too hot. Just a total cluster.

This got in the news because it's a former athlete, but I bet this kind of situation happens a lot more often than people think. Having been at multiple athletic events of my kid's there are a lot of parents that have no business being allowed into games/matches because of ridiculous behavior.

Not intentional, but he was sure in a hurry to leave the scene with his kid.

Got booted by Romar who had let a sex trafficker (pimp) return to play after missing Pac12 tourney.

Screams underlying mental issues.

McLaughlin running through the official was absolutely intentional. The ref knocking over McLaughlin's son was the only part that wasn't intentional.

The really scary thing is the number of States that it is totally legal to carry a gun into a game. All of us have gotten a little wound-up at games, especially if your kid is on the field or court. Youth sports can be really emotionally intense for everyone involved. How would this have gone down if McLaughlin was armed ?

What this man needs/ deserves:

A month in jail (at least)
banned from any youth sporting event for life
mandatory anger management/ counselling
maybe lose parental rights/ custody of his children.

He already has a dv charge, now this. He is a menace and needs to be dealt with accordingly before he kills his family and then himself, or worse (if there can be worse).

How many people have been shot at basketball games? I haven't heard of one, but maybe it has happened.

His kid is going to grow up a special kind of entitled/enabled with such a stellar example of manhood.

More likely that he may serve some jail time, pay a fine, and have to go through some much needed counseling… Lose custody of his child? I would need a little more information then what is offered to make that suggestion. Could you imagine if every parent who was charged with DV lost custody of their child?!
