From a reader’s comment on The Seattle Times after the UW loss to Iowa.
“STUPID move to join the Big 10. Our football team is supposed to be made up student athletes. Yes, there might be 4 or 5 players that will actually make it in pro football but most will need to rely on their education to get ahead in the world. Playing in the Big 10 will not further their careers or education.
Just because USC and UCLA wanted to join the Big 10 was no reason for Washington and Oregon to join them. In the past we had 1 to 3 hour flights and now we have 5 and 6 hour flights. Now we send athletes in sports like baseball, volleyball and swimming across the country which costs more money for the Universities and hurts the students.
Some big egos with small brains made the decision to dump the Pac 12 and now all of our student athletes will be paying the price.”
