Washington State looks to extend their winning streak over the Vandals to 12 tonight at Beasley Coliseum. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks Washington. I'll provide some comments, news, and whatnot in the thread below.

Starters for Washington State: G Ike Iroegbu, G Ny Redding, G DaVonte Lacy, F Junior Longrus, F Josh Hawkinson

Idaho jumped out to a 7-2 lead on a few jumpers and WSU, after Hawkinson hit the Cougars' first attempt from the field, a jumper from the top of the key, has gone 0-5 from the floor. Ernie Kent calls a timeout with 17:34 left in the first half.

At the first media timeout, Idaho leads Washington State, 11-2, with 15:36 left in the first half. The Cougars are 1-of-9 from the floor and 0-of-4 from beyond the arc. Josh Hawkinson (1-of-4) has the Cougars' only points.

Out of the timeout, Idaho's Connor Hill nails a three. Hill now has six points and is 2-of-3 from behind the arc. The Cougars answer on the other end with a solid finish from Ike Iroegbu on the breakaway. He's fouled but misses the free throw.

Brett Boese came in the game after the last timeout for Ny Redding. Dexter Kernich-Drew has already picked up two quick fouls and is replaced by Que Johnson. Josh Hawkinson gets a breather as Junior Longrus re-enters. Idaho has a 16-4 lead.

Lacy comes back and nails a three off a set play. After a Mike Scott miss for Idaho, Brett Boese misses a WIDE OPEN three from the corner after Que Johnson gave up a good look of his own to hit the open man. After a miss, WSU throws the ball away, which leads to an Idaho fast break layup.

On a set play from under the hoop, Hawkinson takes advantage of some overzealous defense and gets a bucket, but Idaho answers on the other end to push their lead to 20-9. Que Johnson goes to work on the other end and an ugly drive to the basket gives the ball back to the Vandals.

Idaho gives it up and Iroegbu comes down and attacks the hoop to knock down an impressive contested layup. Idaho is called for a moving screen and there's another media timeout. With 11:52 left in the first half, Idaho leads 20-11.

Confident shot out of the timeout from Brett Boese, who knocks down a deep three from in front of the Idaho bench. The Cougars are predominantly playing with four guards tonight.

Boese misses a three after an Idaho missed shot and Idaho takes advantage of some sloppy inside defense on the other end to increase the lead to 22-14. Que Johnson misses a three on the next possession and after a long three miss from Hill, Idaho gets the rebound but misses the layup.

Lacy, who is 1-of-4 from the field, goes to work on the baseline and draws a foul on the shot. He'll shoot two. Lacy misses both free throws but gets his own rebound. Iroegbu drives to the hoop and misses a contested layup. Boese gets the offensive rebound but they are unable to convert.

Idaho comes down on the other end and knocks down a deep jumper from Woods. Dexter Kernich-Drew knocks down a three. He's 6-of-19 from behind the arc this season. After a Hill miss for Idaho, Kernich-Drew drives the lane, but is called for an offensive foul, his third. He exits and Railey enters for the first time in the game.

Idaho calls a timeout leading 26-17 with 8:22 left in the 1st half.

Out of the timeout, Hill misses a three and Que Johnson gets the rebound, but he's lazy with it and he's tied up for a jump ball. The arrow points Washington State's way. Boese misses a three on the other end but WSU is fouled on the rebound attempt.

Another media timeout and the Vandals still lead the Cougars, 26-17, with 7:56 left in the first half. Lacy, Boese and Dexter Kernich-Drew have three points, Iroegbu and Hawkison have four points each and the Cougars are shooting 30 percent from the floor (7-of-23). Idaho is led by Connor Hill's eight points and the Vandals are shooting 43 percent from the floor (10-of-23).

Out of the media timeout, the Cougars try to get Railey the ball inside but Boese's pass is intercepted. Ny Redding steals the ball, drives the floor and is fouled. He goes to the line, as the Cougars are in the bonus, and hits both free throws to trim the Vandals lead to 26-19.

Scott misses a jumper for the Vandals and WSU works some clock on the other end. Iroegbu with a nifty pass to find a wide open Hawkinson under the hoop for the bucket. Vandals are unable to convert again and WSU sets up with a chance to make it a one possession game, but Lacy's three is no good.

Scott goes to work on Iroegbu and despite some great defense, he gets the tough shot to fall. Cougars come back and after a Hawkinson miss and Railey offensive rebound, the Cougars turn it over. Another miss by Scott and then Iroegbu drives the lane to get the floater to fall. Washington State cuts the lead to 28-23 with 4:41 left.

Wiggs is fouled on the shot for Idaho and he hits both free throws - his sixth and seventh points of the game - to extend the Idaho lead to 30-23. Lacy finds some room off a screen, but his three is no good. Lacy is now 1-of-6 from the floor.

Scott with the turnover for the Vandals and Que Johnson drives the lane on the other end, kicks to Hawkinson who knocks down the open jumper from the top of the key. Idaho with another turnover and the Cougars, once again, have a chance to cut the lead to a one-possession game. Hawkinson with another deep jumper, but it clanks off the back of the rim.

Ugly shot from Idaho on their ensuing possession and Hawkinson pulls down the rebound. Johnson is fouled and will have shots after the media timeout. Idaho leads Washington State, 30-25, with 2:25 left in the 1st half.

Que Johnson knocks down both free throws to cut the lead to 30-27 with under two minutes remaining in the half. The Cougars force a tough jumper and Que grabs the rebound. Lacy then comes down and hits a contested jumper from the top of the key and WSU now trails by one, 30-29.

Scott comes down for the Vandals and somehow makes a shot that should have never gone in from about 10 feet out. Washington State, killing clock, goes to work on the other end and Que Johnson drives the lane confidently and is fouled. That was a pretty explosive drive after the pump fake from behind the arc, but the shot just misses. He'll have two free throws.

Que hits both free throws and cuts the Idaho lead over the Cougars to 32-31 with 25 seconds left. Idaho will hold for a last shot and WSU brings full court pressure. They drop back into a zone defense and Idaho misses an open three from the corner.

HALFTIME: Idaho 32, Washington State 31.

Idaho opens the half with a turnover and Iroegbu drives the length of the floor for a bucket and he's fouled. He hits the free throw and the Cougars, at 34-32, take their first lead of the game just 16 seconds into the half. Idaho with a turnover on their second possession of the half, but WSU is unable to capitalize on the other end.

Idaho works it into the post and converts to tie the game at 34-34. Lacy with the turnover on the other end and Mike Scott, on a fast break, converts the layup. After a Lacy miss and a missed tip in by Iroegbu, Hawkinson grabs the board and converts. Powell comes back on the other end and on a no look pass from Scott, Idaho gets a dunk from their big man.

Iroegbu drives the lane again and converts. It's a quick pace to begin the half as the teams are tied at 38 with 17:29 left. Idaho's next possession goes out of bounds and Ny Redding comes down and hits a layup to give the Cougars the lead again. On Idaho's next possession, Hill baby arms a shot in the lane and the Cougars hit the fast break but Que misses the reverse layup and Hawkinson is called for the foul under the hoop, giving the ball back to the Vandals.

Hill hits a fadeaway three from the corner and Kent calls a timeout. He's heated on the sidelines. Idaho has a 41-40 lead with 16:25 left in the game.

Out of the timeout, Iroegbu misses a three from the top of the arc, which went in and out. Scott misses a three on the other end for Idaho and Que Johnson comes back on the other end and misses a jumper of his own. Boese gets caught by a backdoor and is called for a foul. Media timeout on the floor as the Cougars trail Idaho, 41-40, with 15:17 left in the game.

Iroegbu leads the Cougars with 11 points, Hawkinson has 10 points and Lacy has five points on 2-of-10 shooting.

After the timeout, Idaho works it around and gets Ireogbu reaching, who picks up his second foul. Connor Hill takes a breather for the Vandals and then Idaho knocks down a jumper.

Dexter Kernich-Drew is now in the game, as is Junior Longrus, who misses a baby hook in the lane but Hawkinson grabs the rebound. He's also short on the shot and on the return trip for the Vandals, Iroegbu is called for another foul, his third. Both Ike and DKD have three fouls.

Mike Scott hits a runner in the lane and the Vandals extend their lead to 45-40. Aaron Cheatum, who entered the game for Longrus, misses the jumper on his first touch of the game and on the other end Scott hits another layup. The Vandals are on a 9-0 run.

Lacy is fouled and his first free throw ends the Vandals' 9-0 run. He hits the second and the Cougars now trail Idaho, 47-42.

Offensive rebounding continues to be a problem, as do turnovers. The Cougars commit both on back-to-back plays and then Scott nails a three to open up a 10-point lead for the Vandals with under 13 minutes to play. Nearly turning the ball over again, but the Cougars maintain possession. Hawkinson hits the jumper, to stop the 14-2 Idaho run. Iroegbu on the assist.

Lacy gets the steal on the other end and finds Iroegbu for the big dunk on a fast break. WSU cuts the Idaho lead to 52-46. Timeout.

Coming out of the timeout, WSU has two threes rattle in and out then Connor Hill knocks down a trey for Idaho, which takes a 55-46 lead. After another miss for the Cougars, Idaho is called for an offensive foul. Hawkinson misses the three, but Kernich-Drew handles the rebound and finds Lacy in the corner, who's three attempt is blocked.

Idaho drives the lane and draws a foul on DaVonte Lacy, which is his first foul. Callendret makes both free throws to extend their lead to 57-46 with 9:49 left in the game. Idaho calls a timeout.

Ike Iroegbu, in the game with four fouls, drives the lane and kicks to Lacy, but is called for an offensive foul. He's done for the night with 13 points, four assists and three rebounds. Idaho comes down and hits the 1 of 2 free throws to extend their lead to 58-46 with 8:38 left in the game.

Kernich-Drew's three from the corner is no good and Idaho, looking for a dagger, comes down and misses a jumper, but Callendret gets his own rebound and puts it up and in. Redding comes down and hits a floater to cut the lead back to 12.

Lacy gets out of position underneath and is forced to foul the shooter. With 7:31 left in the game, Idaho leads Washington State, 60-48.

Some observations from the game: the Cougs have no inside presence on offense, their outside shooting stinks, and about half the lineup doesn't have a clue defensively. Iroegbu should never shoot from beyond 4 feet--strictly a pass or drive--Railey should never leave the bench, and "Q" Johnson needs to improve immensely, quickly, for this team to achieve even a semblance of mediocrity heading into league play. My prediction for league play? Last place. Easily. Perhaps zero wins, although, given the nature of the laws of probability, they possibly win 1 or 2.

Idaho misses both free throws and the Cougars catch a break. After working it around, Lacy finds Kernich-Drew driving the lane and he's fouled. The announcers just said that Kernich-Drew is 2-of-16 from inside the arc. He then misses a three, Cougars get the rebound and Lacy then misses a three.

Mike Scott comes down for Idaho and drills a jumper to push the Vandals' lead to 62-48 with 6:40 left in the game. Ball deflects out of bounds but the Cougars maintain possession under the hoop. Another three goes in and out, this time from Lacy. The Cougars are 3-of-22 from behind the arc, which is 13.6 percent. The Cougars maintain possession again, however.

Que Johnson backs his defender down, but he's unable to convert. Shocker. Idaho's Scott comes down and is rejected by Hawkinson. Redding picks up the loose ball and goes the length of the court for a layup and the lead is now 62-50, Idaho.

Scott drives the lane and Lacy looks like he got fouled off the ball, but he's not. Idaho grabs the rebound resets, taking precious time off the clock at the same time. Scott takes a fadeaway three and Kernich-Drew comes down with the ball. Que Johnson drives the lane, hits a floater and is fouled. He'll go to the line looking to cut the deficit to single digits.

Timeout is called by WSU. Vandals lead 62-52 with 4:37 left in the game.

Que hits the free throw to cut the Vandal lead to nine and the Cougars pick up three-quarters court pressure. Hawkinson with the block and the Cougars are pushing the floor again. Lacy gets hacked off a Hawkinson screen and there's the final media timeout with the Vandals leading 62-53 with 3:53 left in the game.

Lacy goes to the line and hits both free throws. Washington State now trails Idaho, 62-54. They pickup full court pressure, but the Vandals easily break it. Idaho turns the ball over and the Cougars have a chance to make this a six or five point game, but Kernich-Drew misses yet another three.

Mike Scott drives the lane and converts the layup. Lacy waxes a three. Timeout, Idaho.

Connor Hill with a DAGGER coming out of the timeout from the corner. Extends the Idaho lead to 67-58. That's Hill's fifth three pointer of the game and he now has 17 points. Redding come down and is fouled on the shot. He hits both free throws and the Cougars trail Idaho by 7 with two minutes left.

Cougars pick up full court pressure but again, Idaho breaks it easily and gets a layup. Redding's pass to Longrus is knocked out of bounds to the Cougars and Hawkinson enters for Longrus. Que Johnson with one of the ugliest plays you'll see, turns it over.

Scott pushes the ball in transition, up 7 with 1:33 left and is fouled by Lacy. He misses the first free throw but makes the second. Idaho leads WSU, 70-60, with 1:33 left.

Kernich-Drew is fouled and he hits both free throws to cut the lead to 70-62, but it's looking like it'll be a little late. The Cougars pick up full court and the pressure is plentiful, but they get out of it. The Cougars let 18 seconds run off the clock before fouling and the Vandals will go to the line, shooting two. He misses both and opens a window for WSU.

Lacy misses the three. The Cougars are 4-of-25 from three. Cougars foul and Vandals hit 1-of-2. Another missed three and then a travel call on Idaho.

Hawkinson scores and Washington State calls a timeout with 50 seconds left, trailing Idaho, 71-64.

WSU fouls Callendret, who makes 1-of-2 free throws and the Cougars have the ball with 48 seconds left, trailing by 8. Another timeout called by Idaho. Lacy comes down and hits a three and the Cougars now trail by just 5 at 72-67.

Washington State immediately fouls Scott. Boese credited with the foul and Scott will have two free throws, making his first trip to the line tonight. He misses the first free throw, makes the second. Lacy misses the three but Hawkinson gets the rebound and puts it up and in.

WSU fouls Connor Hill, who makes both free throws. After a flury of missed shots by WSU, Idaho gets the rebound and is fouled with 9.3 seconds left. They hit both free throws and the game is over. Lacy adds a bucket, but Idaho wins, 77-71, to snap an 11-game losing streak.

This was just an ugly, ugly game. Being there and listening to coach, it's obvious the team is still trying to figure out what he wants and how he thinks. It almost seemed like he was micromanaging every movement, every play. That could be just how he coaches, too. Don't know. But there wasn't a time a coach wasn't in a players ear.

The true freshman, Ny Redding got a few points last night and really seems to have some promise but it sounds like coach is really looking to Cheatum too, whom hasn't really stepped up yet. Railey needs to figure out how to be physical enough without fouling and just shoot the dang ball. If he isn't going to shoot, get in there and be ready for rebounds… As it is, he shuffles his feet around, looks scared, and then gets pulled out. He has some real promise but he's yet to even START to show it.

I for one don't want Railey to shoot.....ever. Have you seen him shoot? Maybe the worst touch for a big guy I've seen. Actually, he shouldn't even be playing. He's a fifth year senior who has a career scoring average of probably about 2 ppg, if he has potential you would've seen it by now, IMO.
